[FE8] [COMPLETE] FE: Dream of Five - Definitive Edition

So I want to say, great game. Loved it. The characters are interesting, you managed to make even the early game archer great, the maps design stayed solid from the beginning to the end. One of the best aspect of that game, is you managed to conveil well what it is like to live in the medieval adjacent society of Dream of five.

But I would like if someone could clarify a bit what happened in the ending,to Rena. It is stated that Rena was remembered as the last queen of Aukema ? It is a bit ambiguous. Does it means that after Rena rule, the aukeman monarchy ended with her ? Or does it simply means that there was no woman who ruled Aukema after her ? I expect the latter, but considering Rena’s character it does not appear absurd for her to die childless.

I think it’s clarified earlier in the thread that Rena was the last monarch of Aukema before it transitioned to a more democratic system of government.

Ah okay. I am a bit surprised that she went as far as to chose democracy, especially in this world reminiscent of the middle age with none of those traditions.Truthfully, I expect it to go south, with some powerful noble family getting themselves elected over and over just like the hasburgs in the HRE, but it does speak of Rena’s character that she even did it.

Caliburn is correct. Aukema doesn’t really have gender preferential inheritance in the first place were the monarchy to continue, ‘last queen’ is just snappier to say than ‘last monarch’. The themes of the story includes that Rena, a non dragon-heritaged pretender, is doing a better job running the place and the bloodline related inheritance is coming to a close, so it’s not farfetched to use the rest of her lifetime to transition to alternate forms of government. After all, early forms of democracies and republics exist in the classical era, and for a long time Venice is also a republic, so it’s not really that farfetched. Onduris also transitions to something akin to Roman Republic/consulate, and Vishara keeps a monarchy but has chosen heirs over blood heirs, which is Roman Empire.

Well, I must give her great credit for suceeding. With the realm military decentralisation, the entrenched power of the nobility, the widespread belief in aukema about how ceowulf line is divine and only they should rule, not to mention the lack of republican tradition and the general illiteracy of peasants, Rena really is a great queen if she suceeded instead of getting muzled by her nobles, or having the system she established hijacked.

Well, she’s got a good few decades to figure stuff out, and ultimately winning the throne via military might does give her some room to make bigger changes than if she had gotten it via direct inheritance.

The literacy issue will also be addressed via the Cweneth Accords. Printing tech has long been invented in Xuanhe, after all.

To be fair, she does have great assets to do it. She is competent, decisive, is a “descendant of Ceowulf”, has gotten rid of many of the arch-conservatives nobles, and their seem to be widespread belief that the kingdom’s nobility has gone corrupt and neglect its duties. But I do expect she will have to settle for partial suffrage, due to peasants just not being able to vote due to their ignorance and illiteracy.

I disagree. I think that Rena secret would hold since it would be seen as everyone as mere, baseless slanders spewed by her ennemies. It would take something like Sevira or Rena spilling the beans for this secret to die.

I’m on Chapter 12A now and what do you mean we’re introducing two new major plot threads between chapters how insane is this story going to get

Like how does it simultaneously feel like we’re in the endgame but also barely getting started :sob: I need to be clear I’m absolutely loving this its just completely insane that y’all managed to juggle all these plot threads without it feeling overwhelming

Another note, I absolutely love how pre-promotes feel in this hack. They are very strong. I do expect them to fall off by the end of the game but as of right now Lyndra feels invincible, and Corbeau is just a nice upgrade compared to Garath. They’re both really fun to use; I sent them + Garath down the left side in Chapter 11 alongside my now promoted Cathale, and they absolutely dominated that side of the map.

Admittedly I do wish I sent them down the right side instead now that I know I had to beat Uther before talking to Fleurre, I was kinda under the impression that I was meant to talk to her first. But still, it was a fun map; I probably wasn’t supposed to fight the promoted infantry reinforcements, but I did in fact do that, and it was a fun challenge.

I’ve finally started promoting some units as well, and their promotions are super satisfying. Cathale, Cothiva, and Seren have all been promoted, and Tricia and Crowe are gonna be joining them soon. Despite the game’s warning, I have in fact been waiting until Level 20 to promote, sue me.

And finally: Cathale and Cothiva’s supports are so cute. I love them and wish them the best.

Oh that is what the warning actually says to do anyway (or at least wait for about 17 ish) so you’re actually following recommendations :+1:

Earlypromoting isn’t like a run-ender or anything it just means that staffers aside generally those units will likely get outclassed by later prepromotes outside of extreme blessage cases, so earlypromoting a full combat unit generally comes with an understanding that they’ll probably get benched down the line.

Oh, I thought I remembered the game saying don’t worry about waiting cuz you’re not going to get to 20/20

I read that and kinda took it as a challenge to see how much EXP I could squeeze out of the game lmao

oh yeah you’re not getting to 20/20 either way outside of dedicated boss feeding (or fortify spam for staffers) but that’s more to do with the harsh exp falloff when units are too overlevelled than lack of enemies to fight, the usual expected endgame levels are 12-15 usually no matter when you promote

it runs on modified fates lunatic exp with added on bosskills bonus (but without keeping track of promo level like in fates, internally I calculate them all as 18/x for players), so promoting too early esp in terms of chapter number isn’t ideal for non-staff-using longterm units because you’ll start getting 1exp per kill until about c11 or so, hence generally i dont promote earlier than that for pure combat units I dont plan on dropping during act 3

Ah, makes sense. I did notice in the earlygame that Garath would literally get 1 XP for most kills, though at this point in the game all my promoted units seem to be getting like 20-40 per kill so I figured the falloff must not be as bad later in the game

I just promoted Rena oh my god

Sorry, I would like to know, could anyone tell me how to recruit Lyndra and Morwen ? I just finished a playthrough, and since I sent se’mori to one-round them, not knowing they were recruitable, I didn’t got them. What is the thing I’m supposed to do ? Seize the throne while sparing their lives ?

They cannot be recruited if you picked Onduris.

Just to be sure, there’s no reward for keeping all the green units alive in chapter 17, is there? At first I thought I should try keeping them all alive just in case but uh… They really like killing themselves on the enemies, so I’m guessing a few of them are supposed to die

They’re there to serve as a buffer, nothing more.

Delighted to be able to announce that the time machines are in working order and, thanks to SeraphKnight, we’ve been able to unearth the original packaging from the original 2006 release of Fire Emblem: Dream of Five [PAL] for the GameBoy Advance!

To celebrate this momentous occasion, we’ve also released version 1.7.6 with a miscellaneous set of small fixes and buffs, almost exactly a year after the last. This, hopefully, is the for real last ever version, and the auspicious version number should secure that. If nothing goes wrong with it, I’ll update variant patches to match. If something goes wrong, you can reuse the last patch, which has been very stable.

v. 1.7.6 patchnotes
  • Enemies can no longer steal
  • Fixed error where Glass tomes could serve as promotion items
  • Slight buffs to Kahn, Brill, byor’Dal
  • Chapter 5 and 6 are now resolved through Seize
  • SW Marksmen in C23 downgraded to spear Sentinel and francisca Warrior
  • Restorers of the Crown changed from Scraiza’s Eldigan the Lionheart to TrikkiNikki’s Cursed Clock Tower
  • Epilogue text speed increased and portraits fade beneath text
  • Warding weapons +2 Mt
  • Various minor fixes
  • Sorcha no longer fights in personally localised desert
  • Enemy sentinel stats corrected (reduced)
  • Characters and enemies no longer able to attack one another where appropriate (e. g. Lyndra vs. Morwen)
  • Female Paladin now has unique mapsprite (courtesy of L95)
