FE8 and Dragons

A thought came to my mind about why FE8 has so little involvement of dragons in its lore. Majority of people in Magvel besides Caer Pleyn don’t know about Great Dragon’s role in ancient battle with demon king. They don’t know anything about a Manakete guarding Demon King’s body in Black Temple.

Do you think a war, much similar, to scouring happened in Magvel at some point of time ? Or was there someone like Dheginsea who distorted history. Maybe it was demon king who twisted the history about the existence of Manakete.

I understand that FE8 is a unique game because it is one of the few games which has a non-dragon final boss. Demon King is the only villain which has come somewhat close to being a literal Satan or The Devil. To focus upon him, IS must have neglected Manaketes.

But Manaketes exist and there are even draco zombies which highlight that even more Manaketes used to exist before they were turned to zombies. So this leads me to some speculation that Magvel hides a very dark past.

My guess has always been that there were already very few manaketes on Magvel, and probably most of them fell during the war against the Demon King. That’s why there are draco zombies in some places, and not many know about dragons on the continent.

Fire emblem has too many damn dragons. Even fe8 has wyverns, draco zombies, and manaketes, which are all dragon-like

where are the fairies, goblins, centaurs, elves, gnomes, dwarves, vampires, trolls, unicorns, mermaids, werewolves, and basilisks? There are plenty of fantasy creatures that are represented much less than dragons are

also wow there are so many fantasy creatures that are very humanoid

Full agree with Vesly actually. I like it when dragons are depicted as these holy creatures, but I’m also interested in seeing other monsters and pieces of mythology depicted, which is why I like FE 2 and 8 for having a pretty cool monster cast.

I think that in its own flawed way FE8 wanted to broaden its portfolio of fantastic creatures instead of just relying on dragons. Problem was those creatures were all classically evil creatures, most were enemy fodder and we never got allied/playable ones.

I think the Archanean style of dragons is the best fit (which is almost lifted from D&D’s dragons) but it would be cool to broaden the portfolio

Fair question.

And Caer Pelyn seems to not know Morva exisits and instead believes that Myrrh is the Great Dragon.

You know what? Damn Myrrh for not correcting them about being the Great Dragon’s daughter. Morva might have survived the events of the game if Caer Pelyn knew about him. Damn her even more for after her father’s death keeping the myth about her alive and living the rest of her life being doted on and worshipped in his place, according to her epilogue.

Wait, are you trolling ? Even if Caer Pleyn knew, they couldn’t have done anything to save Morva. Unless they wanted to get smacked by Naglfar.

But I didn’t look at it that way. Maybe they knew about Morva but still persisted to worship Myrrh over Morva. Because her parents were probably martyrs in the ancient battle. Or it’s all a huge mess.

I’m trying to explore all this because these are interesting things to note if a Fire Emblem Sacred Stones prequel ever comes out.

My opinion based on the surrounding details is that there were probably more in the past, but the war against the demon king led to most of them dying. I think it’s implied via the existence of Draco Zombies.

I mean, if you want those in your fire emblem game, there’s always the custom “monster” repo.
It would be cool if IS broadened their scope with creatures, but dragons are cool, man.

I think it might be more that FE8 was clearly inspired by Gaiden here - many of the creatures are taken straight from its collection.

I like dragons plenty, I was just saying that not every fe game needs to have them as a central theme

dragons are not cool

have them just as another group of people that coexist with the rest of the world

you can have dragons and not have them take center plot stage

you can also just fuck it all and make everyone a dragon

enjoy Dragon Emblem

1: what flag is that

Like make dragons either the main playable cast or the main villains ? I didn’t plan either of it. The main villains are going to be demons. I’m just exploring these topics for fun.

Although, I plan make another thread exploring more about demons and evil. Like how can you make a villain more evil than Valter or some begnion nobles ? What kind of personality and character should a “being of pure malice” have ? And how terrible should hell look like ? These questions can be answered if I delve deep into Bible or something else but I would still like to know people’s opinion on this.

Well, im gonna give my 2 cents on this and say that a being of pure malice would probally want to cause as much pain and suffering as possible, you know mass unimaginable torture, mass starvations where the victims are magically kept alive, people being flayed alive that sorta stuff, you know get creative. i think it’d enjoy all the pain and torment that it does to innocent people and would be entierly without morals.

Yes exactly. I have some very evil things planned for that. Of course it won’t be r or anything. I know the limits. But the idea is to make players hate the villain so much that they desperately want to kill him/her. Valter perfectly brings out that feeling in many people who played FE8 blind.
