The hack’s been developing quietly for a bit, but we’re back! I’ve updated the patch, which now has 7 more chapters to play and a lot of retuning, additional events and talks with the crew in the Hubs, and a fully complete custom soundtrack (big ups to the music team and Eric especially for getting this done). If you try it out, the team would appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks for reading, and we hope people enjoy the update!
Huh, strange. Put in a CRC fix that may address this: I have no issues patching the new version through FEBuilder, at least. Hopefully, that resolves the issue.
Cool, seems to have worked. Really excited to try this out, I see a lot of names I recognize from Bells of Byelen’s dev team and that was possibly my favorite hack of all time.
Okay, it was: A-2 specifically was missing a function that re-added the cast if you took it first (had to be removed in the first place due to some finnicky stuff with the first hub not having preps). Updated the patch with the fix.
Edit: A note I forgot: it won’t fix itself unless you run through Hub A and talk to Jaime again, since the units are re-added before changing chapters.
So, I was going to use my Charisma scroll in my first chapter preps. I did 1-2 but I had the deployment bug, so I updated the patch to fix this. No idea if that’s what did it, but when I went to my convoy to hand the Charisma scroll out, I ended up with an Underhanded scroll instead? I did pick Bartz, so, no idea if this is related at all.
Hm, it probably is related to the new patch, though I’m not sure why that would change a skill scroll that you already have in your convoy. I’ll add this to a Known Issues tab for now.
The best workaround I can think of is probably to have Lua grab the Charisma scroll from whoever has it (they should show up somewhere around the hub) and then have your chosen unit use it in the hub. That’s only the case if the patch did cause the issue, though: certainly possible that it didn’t, but I haven’t seen this crop up before otherwise.
Yeah, I’d had her grab it off Pilar in the hub, but I just put it in the convoy since chapter preps are generally a nice time to sit and think about what to do.
Anyway, I could go back and try to fix it, or I could just continue to enjoy Underhanded Desiderio. It’s pretty amusingly strong.
I’ve been having a blast with this hack, especially enjoying how different it feels from typical FE with a serious story/routine gameplay. What chapter does this patch go up to? I’ve found that when I try to enter Chapter B-2B after all prechapter cutscenes I get to a black screen that does not progress to next chapter. I noticed some placeholder assets for some playables close to here so am wondering if I’ve reached the end for now.
It should go up to 21 chapters (most are pretty complete, there’s like 1 chapter without text).
Weird: I used one of my test saves for Hub B, and at least if I take B-2 first, it seems like everything progresses as expected leading into the Investigate gameplay. If you can share your own save, then I can test with that one and see if I can replicate the issue. Also, it could be relevant whether this is the first Hub B chapter you’re playing, though I don’t think it is.
If I can’t replicate it, then my guess would be that it’s emulator related. I personally use mGBA, so any emulator working off of that would probably be ideal.
Edit: Actually, figured it out: Due to a rework around how force deploy works, there was a bad bit of code which could lead to an infinite loop, inconsistently. Patched in the fix for this, along with a fix to the Equalizer skill which often did not work as the skill would suggest.
Been enjoying the hack so far. However I’m also having an issue with the Chapter B-2b loading, as it puts me in a black screen, unable to do anything. Otherwise, everything is very fun so far.
