Also, here’s a peek at what the hack’s documentation is gonna look like. It’s very much a WIP but this is the general idea
I feel like I should do that, but also it would be an entire book because everything got tweaked. ![]()
Yeahhhh, it’s been an absolute pain documenting all my changes. I really don’t wanna do it but it’ll make the hack a lot easier for people to play and review so I’ll stop being lazy for once I think
Maybe, but I also realized that in that Legacy intro video that talking about even the more ‘major’ tweaks that were talked about just kinda felt like an excited accountant- that maybe the minute changes need to be more felt in game than explained in a google doc.
But also I might feel that way because that’s how I tediously tested my numbers, not through a script but just playing it ‘til it felt right. Like a bike.
I don’t disagree necessarily, but my documentation isn’t exactly meant to be a preview of the hack in the same way that FE7 Legacy’s announcement video was. It’s more just… Well, exactly that, documentation of what all I changed. A document or wiki that details all the stuff I might miss in a game is something I appreciate having, and I figure some people might feel the same way, so it’s worth making
As for the actual preview of the hack, I’ll eventually make a video that shows off the more interesting changes. It’ll definitely be a lot shorter than the FE7 Legacy preview, cuz I agree that one went a little overboard with sharing the details
I have now run into an issue where the Tactician gets revived on the next map after they die and the enemies refuse to attack their zombified corpse ![]()
Shouldn’t the player avatar be a game over condition in the first place?
Lyn teleports in and saves Mark at the last possible second, teleports them to the medics, then disappears into the sunset before returning to wherever she was before the first teleport
Probably works in a similar way to Marcus or Oswin, you can’t deploy them anymore but they are still there. Also if you had four characters who’s death causes a game over might be a few too many.
I considered it, but having a fourth Game Over condition sounds awful, so-
-I’m basically just going with this, the retreat excuse that’s used for characters who are important but not important enough to warrant being a Game Over
Oh and for the record I did fix my issue, I had to compromise and make the Tactician pop out of Lyn at the end of the cutscene but hey the vanilla game does that sometimes so it’s not that odd
Oh and speaking of the Tactician, their portrait was finished yesterday. Huge thanks to @cardcafe for making this, they look great
Now I’m imaging Lyn releasing the tactician while saying “go commit crimes”

type shit
I’m toying around with the idea of potentially rewriting Lyn mode’s story. It’s not a huge priority and it’s definitely not gonna be part of the hack’s first release, but it would be fun to do. Take the general blueprint, condense the parts that feel unnecessary, expand on the interesting parts, and probably replace some of the chapters
Mind you, this could absolutely be done for the entire plot of FE7, but rewriting and restructuring Eliwood/Hector mode sounds like a nightmare so I’m not even gonna think about doing a story overhaul for that. Maybe just fixing up the most egregious scenes
Honestly I feel like that’s something that should be a last priority. I feel like the story is good enough and doesn’t necessarily need to be changed. I won’t say you shouldn’t if you really feel like it needs to be done, but it should definitely be something for the very end. For a more biased opinion I like Lyn modes story and would prefer if it wasn’t changed, but one idiots opinionshouldn’t effect your choice.
See, My problem with Lyn’s story is that the female lord got relegated to tutorial duty and it has always felt bigoted for that.
Which isn’t something I think is fixable in the scope of this project.
Oh I agree it should be my last priority, hence why I say it won’t be in the first version of the hack. And I also agree that the story is “good enough”, I mean I do like the story of FE7. It is my favorite game in the series, and not just for the gameplay alone. But I do feel it can be improved to go from “good enough” to “great”, and for Lyn mode in particular, I think it wouldn’t take too terribly much effort to do that
‘Course I’d still keep the general plot outline, the most memorable scenes, and the overall spirit of the original, but I do think a few things could be moved around to make the big moments more impactful and make Lyn’s overall arc more satisfying. For one, as much as I like Lyn and Wallace’s support and the themes it tackles… Yeah I just don’t think Lyn’s story is as satisfying without the Taliver Bandits being involved somehow
Rewriting Eliwood/Hector’s story would be hell though. Every piece of it is tangled with a dozen other pieces to the point where you’d basically have to start from scratch. I’d love to rewrite the whole game, but god I do not think I have enough passion for FE7 to put that much effort in
Yeahhhhhhhhh, that’s kinda impossible to fix without just making an entirely different game tbh. I mean I could easily make Lyn mode difficult and not a tutorial but her story does need to happen first so it’s probably always gonna feel like that. Best I can do is try to put more intrigue, emotion, and general oomph into what’s already there
Thought about this a few times too, specifically the middling chapters that are just extended fluff to fit the tutorial narrative.
Also, I don’t think it’s ‘impossible’ to extend lyn mode to the main branch, though it would be in large part replacing either Hector or Eliwood and making all new chapters 11-15, probably with another bandit chapter before the Laus invasion and escape. Then the only thing would be something like making a new chapter 28/30 to obtain Mulagir since Sol Katti is still not technically one of those armaments…
I say all that, but I didn’t do it either, but now that I’m thinking about it… could be interesting…
Though, making Lyn wait that long to promo would be like Roy all over again….
Honestly, I do wonder if there’s a way I could make weapon weight work like the NES games, making CON just the Rescue/Aid stat and having all weapons slow all characters by the same amount
I suppose I could just make all weapons 0 WT and put stat penalties on them but from a UI perspective that’d be awful and I don’t think it’s something I’d want to do
i did this before
if you set the weight stat equal to the stat debuff it kinda works
but you have to be wary of the weight still working normally
the way i found to fix this is to have the maximum weight of any weapon be less than or equal to the minimum weight of the classes/characters that can use those weapons
finicky but it works
