[FE7] [Unreleased] Project Triblade - FE7 Rework

i guess thats an option, though i’d have to keep debuff on swords, lances, and anima below like, 5, so that the weight doesnt mess with low CON characters. seems kinda limiting

maybe i could just buff the CON of units to have them all be above 10 or something, then i could work with anything between -1 and -10 SPD  idk

Oh wait but that’d fuck up the mounted Aid formula. Shoot. Idk how I’d deal with that issue

Maybe you could see Gamma’s Sacred Echoes hack? (Speed minus weapon weight formula)

I have to imagine they probably used a patch for that, and considering I’m working with FE7 my options for patches are much more limited…

I finally have an idea for how I can handle CON and WT considering the limitations.

So first off, all weapons will have a WT ranging from 0 to 10 (though I’ll play around with the numbers, there might not be any weapon that actually weighs as much as 10). As in the first four FE games, each point of WT simply subtracts from the wielder’s SPD in battle, without any stat that acts as a counterbalance. Lyn and Harken will both lose the exact same amount of SPD when wielding a Steel Blade, thus units like Lyn will no longer be disadvantaged by the system.

This new WT system will of course require plenty of playtesting, and I’ll definitely release a playtest build once the hack is mostly ready.

However, this leaves CON with really only one purpose remaining, and frankly, we really don’t need to overcomplicate the Rescue mechanic. Rather than each individual unit having their own CON value, I’m going to implement it as four “weight classes” that each unit can slot into, mostly depending on class. The weight classes are as follows:

Light (11 CON) - Light Infantry units cannot use Rescue (10 Aid), while Light Mounted units can Rescue anyone in the cast (14 Aid).
Medium (12 CON) - Medium Infantry units can Rescue Light units (11 Aid), while Medium Mounted units can Rescue everyone who isn’t Armored (13 Aid).
Heavy (13 CON) - Heavy units can Rescue anyone in the below classes, regardless of whether they are Infantry or Mounted (12 Aid).
Armor (14 CON) - Armor units can Rescue anyone in the below classes (13 Aid). There are no Mounted Armor units.

In theory this should all work, assuming I’ve done my math correctly. I’ll have to put it into practice at a later date though, as I’m busy with life stuff and working on the documentation whenever I feel like working on the project. The Light class will consist of things like Myrmidons, Archers, and Pegasus Knights, while Medium will have things like Mercenaries, Troubadours, and Nomads. Heavy will consist of classes in the vein of Fighters, Cavaliers, and Wyverns, and the Armor class will be… Well, you can probably guess.

Most units and classes will probably not gain any CON on promotion, with the likely sole exception being Hector, considering he transitions from Infantry to Armor when he promotes.

If anyone has any thoughts about this, do let me know. I am really excited to implement this idea, I just came up with it just the other day while I was watching CyanYoh play FE7 Legacy (he somehow convinced my stubborn mind that CON is, indeed, a bad mechanic)
