Ooo that’d be a cool design!

Just gotta find someone to commission for it is all. All the people I’ve DM’d so far have been inactive for ages, I gotta keep going down the list until I get someone to bite

Alright! 184 portraits completely recolored (and looked over by my artist friend who isn’t colorblind to make sure they were good). I’m very happy with the results, and can now move onto battle animations

Here another sneak peek on the portraits:

I mean going off FE:H’s Young Lyn and Mark and the whole “Bramimond is a mirror of the one speaking to them” thing.
This is pretty much what Mark look like.
Maybe not that saturated tho.

I think it’s more personality/mind wise, but if true consider that in FE7 the tactician existing is technically optional (though not canon?), so then who’s image is reflected to the player in the case of no Mark?

I have run into an issue, in that a lot of the battle animations reuse skin tones for weaponry and slash effects

Now it looks like Lyn is spitting chocolate milk at the enemy instead of cutting them. Guess I’m gonna have to learn how to repalette on my own :person_facepalming:

Yeah, wait ‘til you see how nutty Mercenary’s palette is.

If I had the time (and willpower) one thing I wanted to do was re-palette all of the original classes to fit in the same colors so

A) It would be easy to copy/pasta a theme like generics/factions

B) With some coding trickery make it consistent to dynamically recolor part of a sprite in the case of, for example, they’re using specific weapons. (I.E. Iron vs Silver.)

well, I wasn’t able to get much done today, as I was quite busy and probably will be for the next week or so, but here are Lyn and Eliwood’s recolored T1 battle animations:

FE7 Legacy released a few days ago and now I feel really stupid for starting an FE7 rework at this time :woman_facepalming:

Ah well, it’s not like this’ll be ready for a while anyhow, and it’s very different from FE7L. I’ve been asked to take an extra shift at work until Christmas so I’ll have even less time to work on the hack, and recoloring battle animations is probably going to be more time-consuming than the portraits anyway

good luck!

I wouldn’t worry about it. In fact the activity is appreciated, especially since some people around here think we don’t do FE7 anymore.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I wonder if nerfing hand axes and javelins is even worth it. I mean, they’re either going to become pretty much useless, or not be nerfed enough for it to matter, so maybe I shouldn’t bother? Would it be the healthiest for FE7 to just remove hand axes and javelins entirely?

Mind you these are just my current thoughts, I’m not exactly going to act on ideas that I’m not even sure about myself

Certainly not something to consider in a vacuum.

When I considered weapon balance it had to fit with everything else I was changing; higher health counts and luck meant most weapons that weren’t already top tier needed crit and damage adjustments to scale against them better.

In that case I didn’t adjust those 1-2 options much at all because they were always going to have utility use, but everything else beefed up around them so they were no longer the automatic EZ option in the new meta.

Makes sense. For my purposes, I’m buffing standard enemies a bit, but they’ll mostly still be vanilla-adjacent, and I’m just going to include a handful of stronger, higher level enemies on each map, so that player-phase-focused units can shine more. With that in mind, javelins and handaxes will still be a very powerful option for enemy phase units, and I’m not sure if just nerfing their damage will be enough

How about ranged axes and spears not doubling? if not mistaked Fates does that.

It’s not a bad idea, though I’m not entirely sure how possible it is in FE7? I could just give them like 20 weight like in FE3 but then that’d make everyone get doubled, so I’d have to see if there’s a patch to make a weapon just completely unable to double

“can’t retaliate at range.” and “ Double ranged attacks”. I have these on Javelins. They come from 2 remakes. Maybe can give an idea.

FE7 doesn’t have the same patching as FE8 does.

Decided to go back and make some weapon changes, particularly in regards to swords and bows. I felt that swords should just have equal MT to lances, and bows equal MT to axes; we’ll see how balanced a change like this ends up being.

shortbow is 1 range
that needs to happen
