[FE7] [Unreleased] Project Triblade - FE7 Rework

I wanted to give Lyn Durandal access for the hell of it, but I only found two different animations for it. One is the beta animation, which is kinda ehhh..? I’m not a huge fan of it, it’s not terrible but it’s not nearly as cool as her other animations. And the other one is SteamingTofu’s, which, while very nice, is maybe not something I want to use in a regular FE7 rework-

As of now, unsure if I will go through with Durandal Lyn

Oh don’t worry, that’s in the cards. Lyn is getting a LOT of buffs (maybe to the point of slight favoritism (she’s been my favorite Lord for a long time I feel no shame)), but for the Sol Katti in particular I’m dropping its Weight by at least 4, and Lyn is getting +2 CON, so she’ll have a significantly smaller SPD penalty when using it.

anyway, would it be corny if I added a couple of original characters to the hack?

don’t worry about answering that, even if the answer is yes i’m still gonna do it (in phase 2 probably, way later down the line, but still)

Gonna go ahead and repalette everyone’s battle sprites as well, to make them more accurate to the actual colors of the characters. Might use Squidjees’ revamped portraits as reference material for the colors, if I decide to use them in the hack (though since they haven’t finished every character, it’ll be up to me to handle the remaining ones)

Mocked these up real quick as an example (SPOILERS)

Old vs New. And yes, Eliwood uses lances now.

Buff Light like crazy

Are these vanilla animations? You might want to download some re-palettes, Hector looks like he injured his feet.

Putting this at the top of the list of rebalances I’m gonna play once this comes out

Yeah, for sure, these were just quick mock-ups made because I had a very limited amount of time last night. Only problem with repalettes is that sometimes I can’t use em if I changed the class’ weapon types, like in Eliwood’s case (and there are several other classes this applies to)

I’ve had very limited time just in general lately, since I’ve spent the last two months getting ready to move into a new place, which is why development has been a lot slower than I had hoped it would be

Changed my mind, I’m just gonna repalette all the portraits myself. Squidjees’ stuff is great, but it’s incomplete, and I don’t trust myself to be able to replicate their colors and style, so I’ll just do it all myself to keep things consistent.

This will take quite a while, but it’ll be worth it

man, I was gonna use the official FE7 artwork as reference material for the colors, but doing that makes Eliwood’s hair look like this

i cannot say i am a fan of this color on him

brownred.

I won’t post every portrait as I make them, but here’s the revamped Eliwood as an example of what to look forward to. I’ll definitely take some creative liberties with the colors, since the official art doesn’t always have the best color choices

Oh yeah, there are ten Eliwood portraits that I need to recolor, so that’s fun. Same with Hector

I decided to keep Lyn’s skin on the yellowish side, just as like. A Sacaen thing or something I guess idk I think it’s cool

Mind you, she’s only half-Sacaen, so when I get to the characters with full Sacaen blood, I’ll make their skin darker than hers

Didn’t get through a ton of stuff today, since I was pretty busy again, and I don’t wanna spoil everything, but here are a few choice recolors I did today:

My plan from now is basically as follows:

  • Finish portrait recolors
  • Recolor battle sprites
  • Rebalance Lyn Mode maps (mostly just make it harder and more interesting by slightly editing the maps, adding more + stronger enemies, etc.)
  • Buff Promotion bonuses
  • Add a few special promotions for certain characters
  • Nerf Erk (I buffed him a little bit too much, he’ll still be stronger than vanilla but I may have overtuned his bases)

Once I’m done all this, I should be able to put out an “alpha version” of the hack, just for those who wanna play what I’ve already finished. I still wanna revamp Hector Normal Mode (plus the other difficulties, but that one’s my main focus), but that’s gonna take a while, so I might as well release a playable build before then

The light magic user is actually really good in this base game if you train him their not doing crazy damage cuz monsters aren’t as common when their a bishop.

I’d say buff monk class in general cuz the enemy ones just suck with pitiful damage buffing them gives are playable Monk just an easier start but also makes the enemy ones more threatening than just buffing light magic which is supposed to be the weakest but most accurate.
