[FE5] [Complete] Fire Emblem: New Theory of Thracia 776

That joke made laugh my ass off. And she gets Wrath skill from it, dammit. I never imagined this could happen. This joke alone made the entire Battle of Tahra far less stressful.

Wow, the dialogue becomes a lot better. Now looks like something I would see in Project Exile or Lil’Manster translations. Now that I mentioned, you never tried to study these translations to have some idea of what to write when doing yours? I don’t mean putting it in the game, because you said you can’t, but use these translations as material to improve yours.

I’m feeling just like Olwen now: what the fuck happened just now?

How mad this bastard must be to force himself into the Liberation Army out of nowhere, beyond everyone expectations. Who he thinks he is? Oliver? Well, he is a living meme as well, so maybe I will accept him as the funny joke he is.

Sleuf giving the Bragi’s Sword from the Tower of Bragi to us actually makes more sense to me than Saias giving it to us from Manster, or maybe it just looks cooler and epic. It even enriched Sleuf’s importance to the story, kinda giving to him one more reason to be playable again, lmao. Just kidding.

Wow, I did get an even better idea now: what about we turn Sleuf into Leif’s personal Claude/Forseti (Someone that would explain more of the lore and other mystical/religious/mythological/philosophical stuff to Leif). Then we could recruit Amalda with Leif is he talked with Sleuf, making able to Sleuf and Amalda have their originally intended conversation (with the needed adaptations, of course). It is probably an absurd idea, I know, but It would solve all the problems! Because Dorias will die soon after that, so someone could fill the role. I think that this way, Sleuf would become a last chapter alternative recruitment, just like Augustus. He would come promoted to High Priest (just like Claude), while Augustus is a Bishop, and maybe would be able to borrow the Valkyrie Staff from the Tower of Bragi before giving it to Coirpre. Could even be in his epilogue: ā€œAfter liberating Northern Thracia from the grasp of the Empire, Sleuf follows Leif in his journey to the south, with the purpose of finding and aiding the Heir of Crusader Bragi, son of Father Claude, who still lives inside the walls of Mease Castleā€.

What do you think?

Bro, he even spills the beans about Altena to Leif, just to show how awesome he is. This is perfect, better even than the original. Congratulations.

And just two last things I’m thinking now:

  1. We could have a conversation with Amalda if we rescued her in chapter 15. Another way to make her recruitable in the future with Leif instead of Kempf lmao.

  2. I captured Conomor in chapter 16 and I imagined we could have a conversation with him too, to Leif to understand his motives to fighting them, tell them about Miranda about her being hostage and asking for our help to save her, making us able to recruit her. He could even locate the church where we can recruit Miranda, saying that the last thing he knew about her is that the Loptyr bishops are moving her to that church with another girl, whose origins he has no idea. Then, when we find Miranda and Sara in the church in chapter 17, everything would make more sense and be better explained and tied together.

And who the fuck is this guy? This profile picture looks awesomely strange, epic and unusual at the same time, it is giving me chills.

I don't want to speak too openly because it because I don't want to deny their work...

I stopped reading Lil’Manster in the middle of Chapter 1 because I felt uncomfortable with the jarring and excessive phrases that were different from the original work. After that, when I saw English speakers talking about Tina differently from my interpretation of her, I read Tina’s dialogues in Lil’Manster… Her character was changed to be completely different from the original work, I thought it was really not for me. It may be excellent English writing, but it is painful for me to read.

I will not take that stance as he may be made playable again. However, I think there should be more ā€œTalkā€ in Preparation, so I may add him to the talk list if he joins.

Since there is an event when capturing Olwen and others, the player would expect there also to be something when capturing Amalda or Conomor. I’m not sure if I’ll take your suggestions as they are, but I would like to add some event in the future.

Brooke had the same face in vanilla as the man talking to Kempf, which was confusing and misleading, so his face was changed. This man uses Lawson’s portrait from Fire Emblem Gaiden, which was brushed up by the author of Super Thracia.

Can I ask what was changed? I have no knowledge of Japanese writing and am curious on how they changed her character. I’m Ngl I hate how japanese to English translations just butcher the Japanese intent and meanings with a lot of things because of how we view or interpret certain things differently and how our cultures are different and we wouldn’t want to portray the same meaning because people in America or English speaking places would get offended or something. It’s irritating to lose so much meaning behind things to where it makes it totally different.

Wow, you opened an interesting question now, because some of my first suggestions were made exactly because I felt the difference between this game and the translations I played (Project Exile and Lil’Manster). I played so much these versions that my translations would be inevitably biased by it, even in the way I see the characters. If you say they changed stuff from the original Japanese, I will take your word for it, but you understand that it is natural that the perspectives would be different?
I mean, an English translator translating a Japanese game would translate it with its own culture in mind, thinking about what would work and make sense here. So make sense for a Japanese to look these translations with skepticism, because it is indeed different from the original, it is a culture shock. It is kinda inevitable.
I felt this culture shock when I first played your game, that is why I, even unintentionally, tried to bring it ā€œbackā€ to my own culture, without thinking about your point of view. It is like a paradox, I see a 9 where you see a 6, but in the end it is the same game, viewed from different perspectives.
And with this said, I appreciate that you warned me about these changes. I was thinking about studying these translations to write my suggestions in the way I believed would make sense for me as a western. I prefer to know your opinion about this first, to see how I should work on my future translation suggestions. In the endgame, you are the one that played the original game as it was intended, so your opinion have priority.

The game starts to glitch when are too many units in the battlefield, I don’t know if you are aware of this, and I don’t know how bad it can be, but I prefer to warn you anyway.

Lara’s portrait is very good now, congratulations. I admit I didn’t expect it, but now it looks very nice to the eyes.

I have an idea to how you can improve this dialogue, would be something like this:

  • In the battle ~ Fate starts.

K: Amalda, I finally found you.

A: Kempf? So it is true… I don’t understand what reason you have to betray us like this.

K: Well… I admit that at first I just wanted to defeat Reinhardt and prove myself as better than him, but after everything I saw, I understood why you and Olwen are the way you are.

A: Olwen? You mean… Reinhardt’s younger sister is there with you?

K: Yes, and Alfred too. That is why I’m here, to ask you to join us.

A: What?! So you are indeed mad, even more than before. How could you ask such a thing of me? I can’t abandon my country at its darkest hour! I still am a knight of Freege, and I will fulfill my duty as my liege commands.

K: Even if it means to do child hunting?

A: What do you mean?

K: Amalda, please, you know better than anyone how absurd it is. The very lieges you obey are against it, but they do nothing to stop it. Instead, here they are, following the orders of the ones that want to hunt every child in Judgral for the satisfaction of their dark god. I know you don’t want to believe it is true, that you still have a chance to change things from inside, but now you reached the end of the line. It is time to choose at what side you will be.

A: But I just can’t leave! What will be of me? What will be of my men?

K: That is for them to decide. I had to fight my own man when I choose my path. Maybe I changed it for the wrong reasons, but at the end it helped me, as it may help you.

A: So, if I have to choose, so I will stay with the Liberation Army. But it doesn’t mean that I’m in your side. I still have my doubts and my own internal struggles, but I just can’t let the children suffer. I will help them, even if it costs my life.

K: Thanks, Amalda… Someday you will see that you and the boy Leif have more in common than you think.

In the start of the chapter (or in the deployment talk section), you could show a conversation between Kempf and Leif. He would tell him that Amalda is between the troops and that he wants to talk to her. Leif answers that if he believes that he can persuade her to their side, then he must do it.

Tina in Lil'Manster

Salem?
Er, sir?

Oh, Tina.
What can I do for you?

I brought you a midnight snack!
What with it being so cold out, I figured you could use a nice, hot meal!

That’s very kind of you, Tina,
but it gets dangerous out here at night.
I don’t want you getting hurt.
You should stay inside and get your rest.
Ladies need their beauty sleep, or so I’m told.

Aw, you’re no fun…

…Wait. You’re worried about your sister, aren’t you?
Is that what’s keeping you awake?
You said her name was Safy, right?
Well, you needn’t worry one moment longer.
You will see her again—I’ll make sure of that.
Once my wounds have healed, I’ll help you find her.

D-Do you mean it?!
Oh, thank you, Salem!
You’re just the best!
Well, I’ll get out of your hair—how DO you get your hair like that, anyway?—and let you get back to lookout or whatever.
Nighty-night, Salem!
…You better not forget your promise!

Literal translation of the original Japanese text

Mr. Salem.

Tina.
What happened?

This is a midnight snack.
I made something to warm your body from the cold.

Thank you.
But the night is dangerous.
Tina, you should sleep.

Yes…

…Are you worried about your elder sister?
I believe you called her Saffi.
No problem, I’m sure you’ll be able to meet her.
We’ll look for her together after my wounds heal.

Is that true!?
Thank you, Mr. Salem.
Good night then.

They only added a few lines, but that alone makes her personality look very bad. And English speakers seem to take this malice and perceive her as a bad girl.

I have a theory about why this happened. Her epilogue says ā€œćŠć”ć‚ƒć‚ćŖć‚·ć‚¹ć‚æćƒ¼ā€(Ochame na Sister), which Lil’Manster had translated it directly as ā€œMischievous Little Sisterā€. And she was probably fleshed out in the main story based on the idea that ā€œMischievousā€ means she must be naughty and of bad personality.

Ochame is a difficult concept to translate, but for reference, I have translated it as ā€œcharmingā€. I don’t think her personality is perceived as bad in Japan. I think she is perceived as cheerful, carefree, and pure.

Of course I understand. I think that’s the way it should be when an official offers culturally appropriate content as ā€œthis is the story we want to offerā€. Some of the changes made at Fates and Engage were interesting. However, whether it should be done in a fansub is debatable.

I understand why Lil’Manster wanted to tell the story in a unique way, but they should have done it as fanfiction after releasing a literal translation patch. Since that was not done, the western people now have no way of knowing how much of it is canon and how much is fanfiction. And that often leads to weird controversies like the one happening here and now.

By the way, there is a collection of vanilla FE5 dialogues on Japanese strategy site. Since Japanese has omitting subjects and using line breaks as commas, it would be difficult to translate it into English using machine translation, but it would give you an idea of what is written and what is not. Please check if you are interested.

This is a known issue. If this makes it difficult to operate, turn off HP Bars. The amount of sprites is excessive and is reaching the performance limit of SNES.

I see. I admit that is a problem to me now that I have been exploring the FE5 fandom.

Thanks, of course I will. Now that you mentioned, the only problem that I’m having with your translation notes is that I often confuse who is talking in the dialogues, because in the notes are only their image numbers, I think. Now that I’m looking on the site, I can see the same structure you used, but the names are there, where the numbers are at your notes. I don’t know if it is a problem you can solve or something like that, It is just a thing that is troubling me.

I hadn’t thought of that. Sorry. I keep track of which face the number corresponds to in Excel. But now I’m running out of time, so I’ll sort it out and provide it to you after I cross the deadline for another work.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will read it when I have a time.

I will stop responding after this point due to a tight deadline for another matter. If there are any questions, I will respond after it is done. Thanks for your understanding.

I’m replaying it in hard mode/classic with vanilla mechanics, the will be a little more difficult due to magic being more powerful now due to the change to res value. Let see how far I can get without save states

I’ll be manipulating the level ups to get more advantages, like magic or defense

Just throwing this out there, but many of the characters have official English names if you ever wanted to update their names (it doesn’t affect anything, still a great hack). You don’t have to implement these if you don’t want to, but just thought I would share them if you didn’t already know :).

On that not, I just wanted to thank you for such a fun, innovative, interesting, and replayable hack. There are not many hacks that have accomplished all of that. Keep up the good work ai!

Just registering for when you return, I’m in chapter 20, and I’m surprised that Reinhardt did show up in the battle. And he doesn’t have any conversations with Olwen, neither with Kempf? Preposterous! Just kidding, but I will register this suggestion for future Ai (that is the way I should call you? Honest doubt, I saw a bro up there calling you this way).

oh chapter 20, that chapter isn’t really difficult. Try to capture the boss, although I really don’t understand the little time skip in this chapter because how is possible that you’re units are still fatigued and I think it would be more ā€œrealisticā€ if their fatigue at least is reduced in a half or smth. Leif should have at least let their soldiers to rest a little in the that time

There has been more than I expected, so I will respond to some of it. I didn’t take the time to elaborate, so this may be a bit of a ramble. If you didn’t understand it well, please understand.

I haven’t really played with the formula changed state. I look forward to seeing what feedback you get.

I know it. Most characters now have official English names because they are written in Fire Emblem World and FEH.

However, not wanting to follow this too closely, I have translated it independently. The reason:

They have taken aim at names related to Silesia (Silesse) and altered them into strange names. Mr. Kaga seems to be patronizing Silesia, the current localizer seems to be maliciously altering it in response. Other reasons; Nova is Njƶrun appears to be because there were no Nova in Norse mythology, so they gave her a name starting with N, they did a perfunctory job. Therefore, it appears to me that the current official English names are not doing an honest job. Also the latest (of the moment) is not always correct, as in Awakening, Scathach was made Ulster (but the names published in FEH will probably never be changed again).

Note: This is my opinion and I do not know what they really thought or did not think about the job.

This is not relevant to players and there is not much benefit in being stubborn. Perhaps I should pander to the latest names.

Thank you. One of my goals was to make as replayable as FE4 and Tear Ring Saga.

The matter of not being able to talk to Reinhardt in Chapter 20 is currently a placeholder. I am aware that it is not right, but from the fact that in chapter 22 Olwen says she saw Gelb Ritter and thought her brother would be there, I am deeming that the conversation would not occur without Gelb Ritter.

I think in the future I should allow the actions in this chapter to have some effect in chapter 22. (If the conversation were to occur here with chapter 22 as it is, that would be strange.)

The name doesn’t mean much, so you can call me what you want.

You are right. It is odd that the fatigue values do not change at all with a time skip. However, fatigue should not be reduced simply, because they continue to fight throughout that time. Perhaps everyone should be moderately fatigued, including units that have not been used before.

Why I don’t like when Americans/English speakers retranslate things into their own perspectives. Like it destroys the meaning and value the creator had when using these names and such. It sullies the work of the original creators.

No worries! Feel free to keep it how it is. I see your reasoning. Keep up the good work!

Every Wanted To Play New Theory with Fergus? wanted to play it with Karin? Well now you can, I have compiled all the portraits currently available to change within new thracia and I found some interesting results, especially a lakche and ishtar with ready made stats for new thracia I have made a txt file that includes all action replay portraits and Ill upload it once I get back home.

most interesting thing is that robert has a portrait in action replay but I have not found Alva and Cain
Despite Shannam being a playable character I couldnt find his portrait (which is different than shannans)

I am in chapter 4 now, the fatigue is really annoying and S Drinks are really rare so I’m going to use the colosseum again to buy some in chapter 25, to solve a little this I’m manipulating every level up of my characters to have good stats and good hp, I will need it a lot.

These are the AR portraits, I made some notes for people who wanna fuck around with the game, I have a lot of codes that arent available like infinite turns for characters (not on gamefaqs) if you want me to post them all just ask and Ill make another pastebin with item codes and some other codes
