FE Asset Repository Discussion Thread

So those are Aerith’s map sprites, or a female monk? I’m not sure I follow what you made.

Aerith map sprites. They’re based off the monk, but could very well be used as such as an alternative, or really any other magic based class.

Over on my main thread, I posted a status update and all that boring shit that nobody actually cares about, but since I finally was able to post it all, I’m putting all my F2U F2E stuff here so people can see it easier.

Here’s all my F2U F2E portraits that I have no use for, packaged into a single png as well as a downloadable folder because copypasting them all in individual is a pain, and I already did it on my main thread

Well, I hope this isn’t too late for you, Klok.

Bowzerker Lance FHawkzerker

I said I’d consider it after the fact but… Well, several months later, and on a slightly cold but not cold enough because Indiana doesn’t get properly cold until the end of November, I did it.

Included is:

  • An update to the existing Female Hawkzerker moving animation, which had a slightly buggy position for when the axe is held down during the Selected anmation (bottommost frame);
  • Sword, Lance, and Bow variants for the Female Hawkzerker;
  • Dart/Hawkzerker Sword variants, as those are already in the Repo;
  • And two additions to the battle animations in the form of Lances and Bows.

All F2U F2E.

Credit for the original Female Hawkzerker map animation is to Pik and DerTheVaporeon; the original Dartzerker map animation was by WarPath; and the original Female Hawkzerker battle animation is to Pik and Maiser6.

…no, they aren’t formatted correctly. I’m lazy as hell. You know this.

Thank you for the post of the Mugs based on the characters and the Sprites as well. I’m sure that the ROM hackers will be happy to implement them and honor them in your name. :v:

Alright, so I added all the previously submitted stuff.

More importantly, I made a not-that-big but still important change to map sprites.

Instead of -stand and -move for map sprites, they now use -stand and -walk.

This is so that, when listed alphabetically, the walking map sprites get put after their standing counterparts.

When you import map sprites into FEXNA and LT, you always go standing first, followed by moving. In GBA, it doesn’t really matter and you can do it either way.

It wasn’t an arbitrary change, and actually I’d have done it a year ago, but I just kept forgetting.

Anyway, this minor change shouldn’t really affect anyone but if any of you were suddenly BLINDSIDED, now you know why I did it.

Hey guys, Klok here.

I just got through integrating a huuuuuuuuuge rework of the Weapon Icon Repository. Major big shoutouts to @Dark who busted his butt for the past two months chopping up ALL those huge sheets of icons into individual and insertable icons for GBAFE, LT, and Tactile alike. If Dark had not done this work, it probably either would never have gotten done, or it would have gotten done way further in the future.

Seriously, Dark busted his butt, figuratively speaking. He deserves all the credit for the hard work on making this stuff even exist.

So, what did he do?

Well, he took sheets like this:

And made them into this:

So now you can view and download every icon individually. There is one folder which might not have gotten touched yet, namely the item icon blitz folder, but we’ll take a look at that later to doublecheck. Otherwise, the whole weapon icon repo folder is complete.

When you peruse the repo, you’ll see first the name of the artist(s) involved, followed by a sometimes vague description, and a number in parentheses. That last number indicates how many individual icons are inside the folder.

Here are a few of the largest folders.

Ereshkigal’s Weapon Pack, 400+ icons:

Zess Dynamite’s LT skill icons (17+ colors, GBA-incompatible):

My personal favorite, Lord Glenn’s Giga Collection at 322 icons:

There are tons of crazy good icons in the repo now. Take a good long look, maybe an afternoon or two, and just browse them, guys. See what you like. Maybe you’ll get some cool ideas!

And remember to bless Dark for he has worked hard on your behalf!

Do we have Blitz 2 in the repo? I’m not sure.

Awesome stuff! A few of those LT skill icons in that image I made were by rainlash, so he should be credited in the folder name as well.

AKA million-years-old Fae

I’d say she’s only about 1600 years old

Oh yeah, before i forget, credit also goes to Flasuban for the original improved Mercenary that this is an edit of.

I used the animation of the mermaid in my hack. And yes I had this problem too and thanks to some of the people I spoke with, I was able to find its problem and fix it.
I didn’t post a fixed version of it because I was a little afraid I might cause problems so I left it alone.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah that animation might have been a bit outdated and probably one that I was the least proud of. Thanks for fixing it!

Also, my Lyon didn’t have the sound effects included for the critical attack in the .txt file, so I added it back to the animation. and broke the animation again, having to redo a section but its fine. If I can finally get a friend of mine to record it, I’ll be uploading a video for demonstration ala SHYUSTER’s stuff.

No, she’s most likely at least a little over 2000 years old, maybe even over 3000 years old. Tiki is a fellow Divine Dragon, and her adult self’s age is confirmed to be at least over 3000 years.

hello um blood i have a question you still have l’arachel sprite animation for valkiryie?
if you have it could you send it to use it? please?

this is for a rom of sacred stones and want to give some characters unique animations and that animation looks good

It’s on the repo:

Ladies and gentleman, we have an improved shaman!

This is the second time I’ve seen this argument pop up in the last week or so. It’s also the second time I’ve ever seen people mention the naming convention of ‘improved X’ in the Repo. We’ve had ‘improved’ animations since like, idk, 2008. Feels like if this was going to become an issue people should have mentioned it sooner?

Not that I disagree. I mostly just name animations whatever the creator names them, with a few exceptions. A lot of people submit “Improved X” animations, so I just stick them in. A few of them, I’ve looked at the animations and said “Wait, this isn’t even improved. It’s not even a sidegrade. Isn’t this worse?” but it’s not easy to, idk, get a ‘consensus’ on how these animations should be named.

Some animations are intended to be improved versions of existing ones. For example, Sax-Marine’s posting of the Warrior 2.0 just above.

This is a cool animation, but is it really a 2.0? It seems better than the Warrior design-wise, but also like completely different. The design screams ‘tier 3’ but the actual animation movements are basically the same as the warrior. Should I list it as Alternate Warrior, then? Updated Warrior? Tier 3 Sort Of Updated and Altered Warrior But It’s A Different Class That Simply Mirrors The Warrior’s Movements?

Even if I figure out something for this Warrior 2.0 animation, I still have all the other animations to deal with after that. Too exhausting for what amounts to a single word change, so I’m not going to bother.

Yeah… I’m not gonna accept this argument. If it bothered anyone, they would have said something like 10 years ago… or four years ago when I made the repo… or two… or even one year ago. Why wait all this time? Nobody’s offended by the name choice. A better reason to change it is just simply that it doesn’t make much sense, but at the same time it’s also tedious and annoying work with essentially zero payoff so I don’t think it’s worth the time.

So anyway.

I spent a bunch of time reworking the Portrait Repo again. A criticism the portrait repo kept receiving from many discord servers I frequent went a little something like this:

Yeah, sure, it has 2,200 portraits, but there are SO many bad ones!
Why do I have to sift through so many crappy meme portraits just to find the good ones?
A lot of the portraits don't fit in with the GBAFE artstyle at all. If you're not making a shitty low-tier hack, these portraits are just random noise!
Klok, you're ugly and your father smells of elderberries!

Obviously, all of these criticisms are true. So, I tried looking at the repo to see if I could finagle a solution. Here’s what I came up with.

First off, I’ve gone through all of the OC folders and sifted out any ‘memey’ portraits, any that don’t conform to ‘conventional GBAFE design philosophy,’ and so on. I placed them all inside what I can only describe as a ‘meme folder.’ This will help people bypass them, but also for people who WANT meme mugs, now they’re all in one spot.

This meme folder is inside the Non-FE Properties folder in the root portrait repo. I would like to sift the actual FE-style mugs out and put them into a different folder, but that can wait for now.

I don’t like passing judgment on what constitutes a ‘low quality portrait.’ Sterling Glovner’s work, for example, is often very differently proportioned from how GBAFE portraits look. Does that make his work worse? Of course not. His work is awesome. A few examples:

However, there are mugs that I think don’t belong in the ordinary folders. For example…

Literally just pictures of people or random images off the internet:

Mugs taken from totally different FE games, typically pre-FE6:

In the above case, these mugs look great! I actually plan to move these into the base game folders when I have time, it’s just that they don’t belong in the OC folder, where they were.

Images like these which seem to have been made with a “lolz this is a funi meme” intent:

And so on.

It’s not that these images are bad, but the point of the repo is to serve as an easy to access repository of graphics for project makers. This change for meme mugs actually improves the repo by making it easier for meme-game creators to find funi mugs they want, while non-meme game creators also don’t have to sift through those.

I’m up for any suggestions and improvements to the sorting or whatever. I actually don’t even know if this is a good name for the folder, so, thoughts?
All Non-GBA-Style Mugs and Meme Mugs

Maybe something more like…

All Unconventional and Meme Mugs

?? Gib thoughts ??
