[Engage Mod] Oersted's Playable Bosses (And More!)

We all know that Engage is certainly… A game…

Let’s add all of the Bosses and make it a parade of EVIL!

With two years of being developed, this mod automatically places all of the game’s bosses, numerous generic units, and more into the player’s army after clearing Chapter 4, when returning to the Somniel. At the current moment, this mod is not balanced at all, and is infact meant for usage on New Game Plus runs, or even Challenge runs, as they artificially inflate the party level. Balancing for this mod will occur in the future.

Every unit has custom growths, skills, dialogue when leveling or dying, and more. It’s as if they were always playable! They even have supports, albeit without any dialogue.

Known Issues:
Camera mode crashes. They don’t have default outfits, which is why. I don’t know how to make them, so just give them some random outfit if you want to take pictures with them.
Randomizer compatibility gets spotty at times with Draconic Vibe Crystal. Crashes rarely on Emulator only while DVC is in use.
Support for other languages is vastly incomplete… English and Japanese have the most complete data.

How to Install:
Get Cobalt set up on your Nintendo Switch, or Ryujinx. Read the guide here for that!
Once this is done, simply drag the folder named “01 - Oersted’s Playable Bosses” to /engage/mods in your device of choosing. Said units should automatically join the party after loading into the the Somniel. Replace files in said folder with optional content included with the mod if desired.

Download:
The Mod is Hosted on Gamebanana or NexusMods.
I’d rather not have to have 3 separate places I’ve uploaded my mod to, so please use these when attempting to download!

Alright I’ve been heckling Oersted on game banana with every new update this mod has had for the past year and a half. After all this time allow me to give my thoughts: this mod fucking rules and Oersted is chill as hell. This most recent update added personal skills and level up quotes for all of the new units and they range from simple but solid stat buffs to AOE effective damage to whatever the fuck is going on with Nelucce.

Actually let’s talk about Nelucce for a second because he’s been my favorite character in the mod for a year now. Nelucce has a very “Interesting” set of growth rates, namely very good HP and Strength and build, OK speed, 255% Luck and shit everything else. He also starts with 30 base luck as a level 12 unpromoted unit. Now, in base game Engage he would probably cap his luck pretty quick and that 255% growth would just sit there being useless. However, if you already have this mod installed, chances are you aren’t playing base game Engage. Enter my other favorite mod, Erngage.

Erngage is fucking stupid in the best way possible. It among other things, removes all stat caps, heavily increases difficulty, makes S tier bond rings each give 4 unique skills, adds 500 (probably low balling tbh) new skills and buffs every existing skill in the game to an absurd degree. It also makes every skill in the game inheritable, so you can give characters any number of goofy skill combos. As such, I would like to showcase “God himself” to you all for a moment.

Behold the boy in all his 65 luck glory. For additional context, Miracle no longer has a cap, meaning Nelucce has a 65% chance to simply not die whenever he would be killed normally. You might also notice Anna’s PRF skill, which is now given to any unit who equips the FEHeroes Anna bond ring. That’s right, this man has a 65% chance to pay me 1000 dollary doos every time he kills a man. Those two 65% chances also increase by 2-3 every time he levels up, meaning Kenny Rogers over here will continue gambling all the way to endgame.

This started off as an endorsement of Oersted’s mod but it’s slowly transformed into a rant about how engage is just better if you mod it. Oersted you are awesome for putting up with my nonsense comments every time I accidentally fuck up my cobalt loadlist. Everybody go play Engage with this installed. Nelucce’s new personal skill gives him a luck based version of POR Adept and it’s based.

I love me a mod that lets u play as bosses. Dont have a jailbroke switch yet so ill have to wait to try this

Nelucce’s luck cap is 100 btw, so you can just get him to never die. Round Eighty pairs well with this lol

Working on getting FX Alear to work perfectly. The gender properly mirrors the players, meaning a Female MC gets a Male Divine Alear. I need to get some help making some modified models for the Map View, however. Past Alear’s hair models are mostly unusable for them, and normal Alear’s will remain partly bright red due to it being textured in. I haven’t tried Emblem Alear’s hair files yet, but the Emblem data may make it look strange at best.

Yes, I still work on this. I’ve implemented more fixes for many issues I’ve noticed in the background, and I updated the raw bundle files to lower the total file size a bit (thanks to the DVC Unity Template updating a while back).

I’ve been chipping away at adding new food data for every unit, and I’ve finished Morion and Abyme for that so far. This means I also have to add a Bento for every single character, and get each localized accordingly. I’ve also found a way to reimplement Fell Veyle in a way that keeps her data separate from normal Veyle, adding yet another unit to the roster. Most of the changes are on the backend to help fix the more glaring issues, such as missing dialogue and such.

These two probably took the most effort to get working out of any unit. I had to even add new items specifically for them because of how the items for them normally work, leading to many, MANY softlocks.

Here’s a few screenshots also showing the pain to get them working. Their sizes are really strange with how ingame scaling works, leading to a 1:10 ratio in the actual values, meaning setting a scale of 1 is actually 10 times normal size, but only for map models. It’s weird. Also, their Info Screens are kind of the inverse. 0.1 is actually normal 1x scaling, instead of… 0.1. Engage does some strange stuff for sure.

The change log for this update alone is over 2000 characters, being the biggest so far if I recall correctly. It’s still not quite done cooking yet, however. Please wait warmly until then~

The mod has been updated with a a now VERY lengthy update log. This update took quite a while to finish, especially testing it. Unlike most of my other projects, I always keep builds of this private until release since Engage is drop dead easy to test. Thank you for waiting warmly for this update.

Fell Xenologue Blue Haired Alear made playable. The gender properly changes depending on what your Alear is.
Partially fixed Past Alear's baldness when reclassed.
Assigned ages to every unit, for cooking related bonuses.
Adjusted every unit's weapon proficiencies, allowing for more reclassing options.
Added a Bento Box for the bosses, shared between all of them.
Every boss now has fully custom Cooking data, including tastes, dishes they are skilled at cooking, and so on.
Equipping Amelie, Onyx, Calistra, or Ameretto with the Fell Style Accessory from Battle Outfits and More Outfits will now put them into the original generic designs.
Added proper Nation data for all units. This is just for the logbook and cooking.
Fixed an issue where Sophie (Bandit) had no Death or Retreat dialogue.
Readded Fell Veyle as a unit, that can now properly function seperate from normal Veyle.
Ameretto was made slightly shorter and less big overall.
Onyx's shoulder size was slightly reduced.
Amelie's haircolor adjusted a bit.
Erik now has 98 sprites for different classes ported from FEGBA.
Updated many skill icons using sprites from some Bootleg Naruto mobile game.
Some skill names updated.
Slightly buffed "Pedagogical Hatred".
Adjusted "Focused Strikes" to be more unique.
Adjusted "From Sticks..." to be a bit more like the inverse of "...And Stones!"
Adjusted "...And Stones!" to be more balanced.
Nerfed "Giant Slugger" a bit, now maxing at +10 Damage.
"Motherly Love" buffed a bit, now being 33% more potent healing instead of 25%.
Small "Last Showdown" buff, now triggering at 40% HP or less.
Heavily reworked "Irony's Boon", and renamed it to "Accursed Luck".
Erik now has a Personal Skill.
Fixed some minor assettable issues with Rodine.
Fixed Sombron being unable to equip Obscurite or Misericorde.
Units now have dialogue in the final chapter.
The following units gained some more sprites. Seforia (Bugfix), Morion, Durthon, Anisse, Pinet, Calney, and Lumera.
Updated the Colorsets some units use to fix minor visual issues.
Calney can now only gain Build from Class Growths, to benefit her Personal skill more.

Added Fell Sombron and Fell Nil as playable units. Do not reclass or engage as them. There WILL be issues. The game will likely crash if you try to do certain more weird things. These two do not have any SP assigned, so they will not appear in DVC's randomization pool to prevent potential issues.

New update out with quite the lengthy change log. Both the Gamebanana link and Nexus Mods link have the updated files now.

Progress has been made on a new update of the mod, that fixes multiple crashes relating to things like the Photo Shoot mode.

This update is mostly smaller fixes, but also includes things such as a recreation of the character Lotus from the Fire Emblem Engage Manga made playable (still WIP), along with skintone fixes and other small issues. There will also be support for the Astral Paralogues mod, making bosses from that mod playable as well. I’m also testing for compatibility with many more mods, so that I can ensure that compatibility remains high. I had to even learn just a tiny bit of Rust so I could increase the unit cap and compile the code file needed.

Thank you for following the development of my mod, please wait warmly for the next update.
