Welp. Beat the game. I am in immense pain. Some disorganized thoughts:
Fuck Abe. I knew he was shady the whole time. I wasn’t on board with killing the child just on moral grounds, prophecy or no, but all those late game hints that he was lying about -something- had me looking for any way to get out of doing it. (Hints such as the Pope’s diaries not matching abe’s story & Hadrian’s boss convo with the pope, and later eve.) I wish there had been some way out for people who figured out his bullshit beforehand (I tried killing her without ever using the clarent, and letting her escape), but I fully understand why it’s not like that.
I found Angus’ arc both good but strange. His end is perfectly fitting for his character, but I also found it confusing. You had a lot of set up for an arc where he tried to prove his innocence, and I have to wonder why you didn’t go that route, and what all the setup was for. Was it all just to make his runaway and eventual death more unexpected? If so, it worked. I also found it strange at the time, to shift from Angus to Harold. Nothing against Harold, Angus is just a more interesting character due to all the drama. Speaking of Harold, he really grew on me by the end. He was quite boring at first but him punching a king in the face has cemented him as one of my all time favorite lords.
Gameplay-wise the hack is pretty great. I still can’t stand fe6 hit rates, but I did have fun.
I loved the ridiculous number of trainees that were thrown at me. Probably made my life a lot harder using them but overall I think it was worth it, even Roland despite his god awful start.
I also loved all the secrets. I appreciated them in kings last promise and I appreciate them here too, even though I’m sure I must have missed many (I think I only got those few devil weapons and the petrify tome). I also appreciate that ng+ bonuses made a return, and that you have more varied objectives besides turn count. A lot of these rewards look very fun.
One negative thing I need to point out though are the skills. There are so many proc skills, and I can count on one hand the number of times I actually benefitted from them. I made Dawson a hero, and while I got plenty of sol procs, I genuinely never benefitted from sol. I think stun was useful thrice.
The non proc skills choices are however are pretty good. Canto+ Durban served me very well, and the great knight skill turns all those borderline useless pole axes and greatlances into WMDs.
Maps were overall pretty good. Didn’t love the desert map, but then again when have I ever enjoyed a desert map. The ones I enjoyed a lot were the ones with the changing conditions mid map. Y’know, teleporting bosses, lights going out, the floor catching fire. All good stuff.
One thing I criticized in kings last wish was the writing, both in story and character, and I’ve got to say you’ve improved substantially in that area.
All In all, very good game, glad I played it.
One question though, on the final map, what was the purpose of the stealable stat boosters? The game is over at that point. Is it just a bit of help for people who need it?
Ok but can you please increase his movement to 4 or 5. Logically the only reason he is in his human form is so that he can more easily move around the world without expending too much energy. Now If he had only the Dragon form I would understand why moving around was so difficult for him that would make a 3 move reasonable but since he has human form I don’t think his 3 move is fair
I will say, I gave him the boots and I did not find him to be much improved, so I think 4 move would make him less painful to use, while still making him a pretty bad unit as intended.
What is the move range for enemy dragon?
Pretty sure it’s 3
Yeah then make Hadrian move 5 since he is a Divine Dragon. Divine Dragon need to be more powerful than regular Dragon so a stat boost would be nice
@Jack_G why did you create such a deceitful man. A man that would Lie and lead others to kill an innocent child for his own Gain deserve eternal damnation and to suffer in Hell. I hope you have it set up so the player can kill him in the end
I’m glad you enjoyed the game.
In older drafts of the game, there was actually a route split after the murder where you could choose either “innocent” or “guilty”. A little into development, I realised that the guilty route was a lot more interesting than the innocent route, and so I ultimately scrapped the route split (with the added benefit of saving me a lot of extra work). So that’s likely why it feels like there are still remnants of foreshadowing in the final release!
I also fixed that issue you mentioned with the devil lance wexp, as well as fixing an issue where the blockade traps in chapter 15 would spawn on the wrong tiles, and where Edmund’s flashback portrait had a different palette to his regular portrait. (v0.71)
Hello, everyone! I have created a tier list maker where you can rank all 45 playable characters in the game. Below is my tier list as an example - feel free to share your thoughts or your own tier list! The link is in the main post.
So here’s a fun one regarding chapter 17.
Kore ga… requiem… da
Thank you for reporting this. This should be be fixed now - please redownload the patch (v0.72). Sorry for the inconvenience.
It works thanks ! And although it’s appreciated, there’s no need to be sorry~ ! It’s a privilege to be able to play someone else’s work, I don’t take it for granted~ !
Also ah ah, just as I thought ! You made the classic rookie blunder~ !
Events gifting items during a chapter’s preparations must only take effect once, or else a player can duplicate the item infinitely by saving and restarting the chapter !
Ah! Yes, I am aware of that exploit, it just seems that I forgot to stop it for that specific instance. This is fixed now.
Okay, I know I got it wrong last time I talked about trainees, but this one is definitely a mistake, right ?
Indeed. It’s fixed now.
You are doing great work catching all these bugs @Gryffe thanks
Heartbreaking: the worst person you know isn’t removed from the story by their “death” on the field ![]()
(I will keep testing every now and then to see if he can eventually die.)
I’m not sure who you’re referring to, but none of the main story characters can die - they only retreat, I’m afraid. ![]()
