fringus did some experimentation for me, and I also did some codediving. Some of our findings:

  • The mirror ring does not affect any of your stats, including MOV.
  • The mirror ring does NOT give you the class skills of the class you convert to.
  • It DOES affect which weapon types you have access to (including the ability to wear armor!) and whether you can kill humans without trauma. According to fringus, if you mirror ring into a class that doesn’t have one of your weapon types, then mirror ring into a class that does, your original wrank will be retained, but this was a hazy recollection and might not be true.
  • Alanzo’s magic cap of 1,000 is tied to his vending machine class, not his personal caps. As such (and because of the MOV thing), mirror ringing Alanzo is a bad idea and will effectively lock you out of most of the vending machine gacha content.
  • Mirror ringing a lv. 21+ unit into an unpromoted class does NOT reset their level or let them gain more levels.
  • Mirror ring’d units CAN promote if it’s via an event, item, secret, or even Rivian’s transformations; they’re only blocked from promoting via Retina’s earth seal (and some with special promotion events/conditions might still be able to promote that way anyway? we didn’t look too deeply into this). Dies Emblem uses the difference in class bases for its promotion bonuses, so if you mirror ring into a class with pathetic bases (which won’t lower your stats), then story promote, you will get a stupidly high promotion bonuses and pretty much break the game over your knee on the spot (to the point where I would recommend not actually doing this). Sigmaraven has been made aware of this.
  • The mirror ring combats upon partaking in any combat, even ones you initiated yourself; you don’t have to proc it on EP.
  • Alguien likes mirror ringing into dragoon.
  • Camdar can mirror ring into a human class to get access to the underdog vest.
  • You MIGHT be able to Switcheroo a mirror ring onto an enemy mage/sage/valkyrie, attack them with the mogall, and then tame them with Ramm, and I believe they should retain their map-wide buff skill . I haven’t tested this, though.
  • EDIT: Apparently, the mirror ring can’t be monster cored. Very sad!
  • EDIT2: It might be able to be monster cored? INeedAName22 said they could core it in a previous build.

Basically, the mirror ring is a lot less broken than I had initially appraised it as being, except for the situations where it’s stupidly broken due to gaps in its ability to block promotions.

Can’t you just monster core the mirror ring to use it multiple times per map? And then chickenify SigmaRaven so that he can spread the chicken virus via sparring?

Using Shove is also enough to trigger it.

If it involves something that so much as strikes the other unit (like there’s a striking animation), it could trigger it… is what I think anyways. No idea if it’s true or not…

Things I wonder about Dies sometimes:

1.) What happened to RandomWizard?

2.) Do certain Ransomed bosses that gain new skills under the effects of A Real Challenge+ get to keep them on recruitment?

2a.) Does A Real Challenge allow these bosses to keep their hidden levels and stats too?
