Cynon's Resource Factory

The title screen theme from Warcraft 1. The mission briefing theme is more or less the same.

A song from Der Langrisser I started on awhile back, but didn’t finish converting because nobody really said anything about it.

An unused combat theme intended for Planescape Torment, playing in FE6 – I already put this one in FE8. I don’t know why I converted this one to FE6, honestly!

Had an idea for a not too complicated combat theme. Wrote it down. It loops at 22 seconds, don’t expect much.

Kinda gives me KH vibes. I think it’s the rhythm of the drums.

If anything directly inspired the drums, it’s Deus Ex 1, which is really amusing to hear this feedback because I don’t think there are two RPGs that are less alike than Deus Ex 1 and KH! :joy:

I started a plains tileset, using the Treasure of the Rudras trees, cliffs, water, river, and dirt paths and mashing them together with vanilla FE8 mountains.

Right now I think it’s just okay. The mountains do not use the same palettes that the dirt roads do. A lot of the dirt path tiles are placed in the same places their vanilla equivalents would be, except in cases where they’d be near impossible to find on a good day. This is also so that people could use that FEMapCreator tool, generate something for the normal fields tileset, and then switch to this one without having to redo too much.

Will there be train tracks tiles? … Who are we kidding… of course there will be. :smiley:

I put Decontextualized Violence into FE6, here’s a rough cut of what it sounded like in Synthfont.

…and this is a rough cut of a song called LordDiablo that I had to do a fair bit of repairs on. No idea where it’s from or who the composer is, but if someone did know, please let me know. I know the original midi file was last edited in 1998, so that at least gives me a clue that it’s at least 27-28 years old at time of writing this.

The following is the “original” for LordDiablo, or at least, what it sounds like with the soundfont I first heard it played back in.

… yeah I think adding some Bahamut Lagoon tiles to this was a good idea.

Random query for you in regards/related to the Metro tileset(s) - would you happen to have or know of any sources for adding in tiles that would work for an outdoor street marketplace? I’m looking for something fitting the more zoomed in style of town (with the bigger doors) with either tents or like a wooden stall with covering, but I have no idea what to even plumb to find something like that.

(Sometimes I wish tilesets didn’t have size limitations because there’s always some slight modification I’d love for a tileset to suit a particular map’s needs…)

Either Live-A-Live or just modify the hanging banner tiles already there, easy call, you may have to adjust the scale a bit so that it makes sense, but that’s what I’d go for first.

After that? RPG Maker 2000 (you will definitely be doing some color reduction and some scale adjustments), Trials of Mana (ditto), and after that point you’ll be looking for a base for so long it would be more time efficient to just adapt the hanging banners I drew.

The Live-a-Live suggestion sounds like it should work for what I’m looking for. Cheers!

Let me know how it turns out (DMs or Discord might be the best avenues) and I’ll help out if possible or if you get stuck on something. I may need to re-submit all of the Metro 2 tilesets to address the terrain type of the train tracks (switching it from 2C to the terrain type used by the ship decks – Deck –, which I have no use for as an independent terrain type).

So this is coming along quite well, I think! :smiley: Only 4 of the 5 palettes are being used, and frankly, I’m not sure what I’d even do with a 5th one. Suggestions very much appreciated, but the color palettes, as they are;

0 - grass, dirt path, cliff, and water tiles, also the fort with a blue rooftop.
1 - UNUSED – I put one of the vanilla castle palettes on it to use as a reference only.
2 - Mountain tiles, but also the fort with the red rooftop and the castle with red rooftops. Figured that recolored vanilla castle should look like the stone was locally sourced, that and there were 5 or so colors that weren’t being used on the mountain palette anyway.
3 - The forest tiles. The trees and grass use separate colors and I think there’s 4 colors on that palette that are essentially unused.
4 - The towns, walls, train tracks, and the other castles. This palette looks like it has an extra dark color on it, but that’s used for night lighting.

Pretty sure I’ve made my point that vanilla FE8 uses colors extremely badly. Making a more vanilla-ish palette for this should be pretty simple, and I may do that.

Tileset below, I tried to place all vanilla or super fields equivalent tiles in the exact same place they are on those, so that using it, or switching a vanilla map to this, is as simple as possible. Exceptions should be obvious.

Now, what’s some of the fun things you can do with this? Non-standard village and town layouts, kind of like what’s seen here;

Also, the night lighting I mentioned can be seen below, note that the gray on the fog colors needs to be tweaked a bit;

Test map with a night palette:

A nighttime palette. I don’t think it’s too dark, but some other people may disagree with that, and as I’ve said before in this thread, often times in my life, what’s too dark or too bright for me is (or is not) too dark or too bright for some other people. So I may end up releasing both a dusk and a night palette.

Below is an attempt to use vanilla FE8 and FE7 colors with this tileset. It should be very apparent, very quickly, why that doesn’t really work.

If there’s anyone who wants to make test maps for this field tileset, let me know. I plan on releasing a first version of it fairly soon.

So…

Some of you might be wondering with these assets and tilesets I’ve been making, if there’s a project they’re all actually for.

The answer is yes.

I may have posted all of these maps in here before, but I’ll show them off again, just in case…

Snow versions. Still no ideas about what to do with palette 1 (despite me being very tempted to use palette 1, or the unused colors on palette 3, for the dirt path tiles).

and another night/early evening palette for the temperate version. I haven’t done fog colors for this one yet.

Within Temptation’s Mother Earth as a boss theme.

The idea for this arrangement came from this old RPG Maker 2000 game called Darkenergy 2, by Project Imperial. It was used as a motif in many parts of that game, but the first few bars where the guitars kicked in where used as the boss theme.

The Langrisser song I posted a preview of 3 weeks ago.

Kenneth Kenneth Copeland portraits. Kenneth Copeland (real life Satan impersonator) as Kenneth (Fire Emblem 7). It’s because they’re both evil preachers with the same first name, it isn’t any deeper then that. That and Copeland’s facial expressions are so legendary that I just had to make variants of this. The Kenneth torso got modified quite a bit for this and I love how it turned out.

They’re basically just high effort shitposts. Do what you like with them.

The colors I made this portrait in;

… and a less Church of Elimine-coded version below that I still need to work on.

They’re all F2E as far as I’m concerned. That being said, if you make changes to the last one, those changes must also be F2E.

As usual, I want to know about these being used, more for my own interest than anything else.

So in Dies there’s a church that enslaves furries and I had tne pontiff have a generic mug this entire time because nothing inspired me. Now, something has inspired me. (Bonus points because the recruitable leader of the slaver ring already uses your Nixon mug.)

That sounds like a pretty good usage for both of them, going to be hard for my own project to top that!

I neglected to show this off for the Cynon’s Fields tileset, but I remade the first chapter of FE6 using it, with liberties taken where necessary;

It’s definitely giving me some ideas

FE6 with the Genealogy of the Holy War cast replacing the FE6 cast?

More along the lines of just adapting a bunch of FE6 maps to my own tilesets and just seeing what happens, changing as little as possible unless necessary (I did change a terrain type for two tiles on the Cynon’s Fields tileset). It’s just a thought experiment for now.

I’m not committing to it at the time of writing. I’m very, very prone to modder’s megalomania --overdoing things way more than is necessary – so that’s one thing keeping me from committing to it.
