Heyo, I’m Cynon, I just wanted to post and share various sprites/music conversions I’ve been making lately. I had been making sprites for GBA Fire Emblem about 19-20 years ago and came back around about a year ago. I do a lot more music than portraits, honestly.

I’m mostly on Discord and it might be easier to get a hold of me there.

I wanted to make someone who could be a mage with unmistakably African-coded facial features. I may revisit his talk frames at some point in the future.

Loosely based on Aion and a few other people. Definitely went for a 1870s-1910s vibe with this guy. If the hack I’m working on goes anywhere this guy will be a part of it.

Drew the face and the head over a picture taken of Richard Nixon in 1968 (notably, before he was president) and gave him Valter’s armor, because I thought it would be funny. Also, I wanted practice drawing older men.

A different kind of pegasus knight. I really like how she turned out. The helmet and goggles look pretty nice, and I’m a big fan of her eyeliner as well. Gives her a touch of Lydia Litvyak. If you use or edit her portrait, I’d like to know about it. Genuinely curious. :smiley:

These guys got sent into the graphics repository awhile ago. They’re not just a palette swap of each other, there is a very minor difference, but I love how they came out.

The head is based on Dawood Rangan from Hitman: World of Assassination. I was using pale skin tones when I was first making the portrait as a temporary measure, and decided to just make the white skinned version as a palette swap. The chibi for both of these is hilarious and I love it.

Music

I’m part of the Youtube channel Patch 129. Most music that’s been posted there can be made available if it’s asked for. I’ve also fixed up some other people’s music pro-bono or done things on a whim.

Crediting for conversions or modifications done and posted there might get a bit awkward, so crediting ether me, Cynon, or the channel, Patch 129, is fine. You may want to check each of the previews for midi sequencer credits, as well.

Most music I import tends to not be NIMAP-compatible, there’s at least one added instrument. However, they do, at time of writing, all use a common soundbank that still has mostly FE8 instruments there.

I would also strongly prefer that the song titles not get changed, unless I made a mistake with the title.

{Cynon} F2E Dawood Rangan (Hitman) {Cynon} F2E Dawood Rangan as a white guy (Hitman)
This is based on Dawood Rangan from Hitman: World of Assassination. If you don’t know anything about Hitman (or if you forgot), Dawood Rangan is an Indian gangster who makes movies about some of his criminal exploits. Extremely over-the-top character. Anyway, when I made this portrait, I used very pale skin tones as a temporary measure. After noticing Merlinus’s torso went a little too well with the head as it was, it kinda stuck. I will probably re-do the kinda bad shading on the hair. He’s not F2U/F2E – yet.

Also, the chibi is really, really funny.

These next portraits are, at time of writing, neither F2U or F2E. Please respect that.

Meet Calam – she’s supposed to be an officer armored just enough to not affect her range of motion in water. She’s also very tall. I made a variant with her not wearing the armor in case I decide to either not use it, or for cutscenes.

With hair that asymmetrical, you might think mirroring that portrait might be awkward, and you’d be right. It is. So I made a mirrored version for when she’s facing the right side.

… and a version of her looking off too her side/at the camera. This one’s a bit dated because her eyes are still green here, and if I use this one at all for anything, it’d be for the status screen only, or if she’s looking sideways.

Calam is a re-imagining of a character I played as on another site 18-19 years ago. If I change her armor color, then I’ll probably make her hair purple.

Tilesets:

So I’ve been working on a tileset for a densely populated city that has trains. The fire on the buildings animates and is from FF6 (SNES). The lamp posts and the fire also both use a type 1 animation and glow a little bit. The map shown is a test map, it’s not really supposed to make sense as a real level.

Not really close to finishing it, I could definitely use feedback from people who make a lot of maps though on any glaring issues they see with it. For kicks, I decided to make the sloped tiles near the canal use the Cliffs terrain type, so that Brigands, with all that mountaineering skill, can slink past if they need to.

This tileset is intended to mostly just show exteriors, and I’ll admit, the scale of the buildings may not be ideal because maps using this tileset could get very big, very quickly. Some of the buildings are also able to get a bit tall, which is on purpose since I wanted to incorporate some.

The train locomotive is, at time of writing, too small and missing some details. I’ll address that.

You may wonder why would I do that and if I thought about there being a way to see the alleys, without the upper floors of a tall building being a wall (like the Silph Co. building in Pokemon RBY) when they probably shouldn’t.

A tile change here blacks out any part of the building that can be hidden, and what’s behind it, which, as we can see here, is a back door to that building and a passable, shaded alleyway. :smiley:


F2E battle screen. For the hack I’m sketching out, the player color is red and the enemy color on all of the menus is gray. Player 4 is shown as purple. I’m probably re-doing this entirely, but if you want it, be my guest. You’ll probably want to change the colors if you’re sticking with blue player 1 and red player 2, though!

Thanks, that’s a quandry that annoyed the hell out of me for the longest time in RPG Maker. Thankfully GBAFE has a surprisingly simple solution to it. :smiley:

Yes, there is! (Note: the portrait and map sprite here are not free to use or edit. The map sprite isn’t done and the portrait … maybe one day it will be.)

… now, going back to that first screenshot. Cvya’s battle animation was done by me awhile ago and got sent into the repo. In case you haven’t seen it, I put it on Youtube, back when Cvya went under a different name.

Magic Magic

It’s based on Greentea’s Limstella, but after the first frame it’s my own, with the Valkyrie and Lyn T1 used as references (or in Lyn’s case, the dodge) used as references when needed.

The one on the right is a repalette specifically done to detach the skin color from the trim on the blouse, so a dark skinned character can have a gold trim, or the trim can be acid green or whatever your heart desires.

Seriously, this is the default enemy palette on the repaletted version. Felt like red trim would get the point across.

It’s F2E also.

This is really just a headswap and cape removal of T1 hector. Color choices and my use of a standing motion (she just blinks) might look a bit odd but it’s not exactly hard to change that.

This probably won’t end up getting used for anything, but if someone has an interest in using this (or even thinking about it), let me know and I’ll clean up a few frames and submit it. I did an unarmed and axe versions of this as well. IIRC the sword one was the primary focus.

Deus Ex - Majestic 12 Combat (First Draft) (this was an absolute pain in the ass to do and this might be as good as it’s going to get, at least as long as it’s still useful as a combat theme. May do a few other cuts of this. Uses guitars from FE7 and the bass guitar from FE6 standing in as the arpeggios)

Made a 3d model with the purpose of using it to make my own battle platforms/make them for other people and make that process way easier. No idea if it’s worth the effort yet or not. Most of the motivation to do this was because I don’t really like a lot of the existing snow terrain battle platforms.

Whether or not I remember to continue this determines on how much feedback I get about it.

I also modified one of the existing battle platforms to get this one. If you want to do anything with it… be my guest. F2E even though it’s basically just a repalette.

Thanks! I remember looking on the repository for battle platforms, just to see what had been sent in, and being surprised that not many were ever sent in, especially since some of the default ones feel out of place.

I also forgot these, which I made for the city tileset I showed off earlier. Like the rest of them, they’re all F2E, and I also put a dropdown in my original post for all of the platforms I’ve thrown together so far.

Thanks! If there’s anyone out here with 3dsMax 8 (or something that can use scene cameras from 3dsMax 8) then I will gladly send this to them.

I have a bunch of these that I’m throwing together for a plains set, and ideally I’ll convert all of the renders to usable platforms at the same time. May have some hiccups with the forest tiles though, but we’ll see. I might find a cheeky way to shade them.

Conversation backgrounds!

FF12 Bog3 Fog

While digging through the Final Fantasy 12 game files I found a background of the Nabudis swamp that I thought would make for a good conversation background. I don’t think it went very well, but if you feel otherwise and want to use it, I will not stop you. I used FEBuilder’s color reduction tool for this and I think that might be part of the problem. Maybe not, though.

Frankly, I think the contrast on these two platforms themselves is a bit high, but it does go with the battle sprites fairly well… the problem is just that they don’t really go with any of the backgrounds that well. As you will see below, the background is much more low-contrast than the platforms are.

Something that I don’t think helps my case is that both my platforms and the default ones have the camera looking down at them 15 degrees, whereas the battle backgrounds are not like that at all. I think the backgrounds have the camera only tilted down like 2.5 degrees.

Dark variants intended for night scenes or for people who have backgrounds dark enough to match them. They’re also not really just repalettes of the light versions – colors were reduced at different times for each of them

The ones marked as Uneven could pass for so many things, they were supposed to be Forest platforms. An idea I had about using shrubbery on them didn’t work as intended.

The dirt patch platforms are basically just the brown bits on top of the Uneven platforms put on the grass plains, which could pass for anything from hills to ballista placements.

Oh yeah, I will be taking some requests for battle platforms… but don’t expect me to do an entire set for you (unless it’s a set of like, two or three, or I really like your idea) because there’s a chance something just doesn’t work as well as it does in the concept stage. I’m also easier to get a hold of on Discord.

The result of getting sick and tired of prerendering a tree on a textured platform (and then screwing it up) so you prerender the tree on a totally white platform so only the tree and the shadows from the leaves are cast.

When applied to the Dirt Patch/No Tree platforms above…

Ice platforms! I did a light, medium, and dark version of most of these, because after doing the medium platforms, I thought they looked a tick too dark. It looked fine to me, but some of my RL photo-sensitivity does mean I have a pattern of making things darker than they perhaps need to be, or should be.

The dark ice platforms would probably work equally well for outdoor night scenes and ice caverns.

Back to some portraits for a bit, she’s a different kind of Pegasus knight. Always thought they should probably look more like aviators. Got a lot of work to do with her still, colors are all temporary (hence the really funky blue on her helmet and goggles).
