A FE8 PME like many others (or maybe not)

Bruh I’m super curious about how some of the other units did ahem ahem totally not mine. More unit reviews soon?

Well since I have nothing better to do (that’s a lie i have many important things to do but I’m procrastinating) I think I’d give my own brief unit review on this PME (up until chap 9 ephraim’s mode)
is gonna be a bit outta order so I apologize in advance:

Tharja:
is a shaman, personal tome’s nice but since the power is the same as flux, it doesn’t really hit any harder except against knights and cavs. Plus you get beryl later with better growths in magic and def. But she’s alright i suppose

Rune:
Is a pretty good unit, healing was nice in ephraim’s 5x chapter and she has access to magic. Aptitude means she’ll have an amazing future prospect. Only complain is her personal tome gives wary fighter which doesn’t really help her much in getting exp, i guess it helps her tank but most player are just straight up conditioned to not put healers in the front anyways, so a brave tome would’ve been better i think

Exia:
Is literally a damage sponge. Purge is an amazing weapon to NOT use since enemies will just clink on him when he equips it. Early on he has way to much might and one hits enemies but later on he leaves them with 1-5 ish health so he’s a really good jaegen

Lenna:
Her personal skill doesn’t really work since she can’t tank at all if you don’t invest boosters or levels in her. She ended up good because i put a health booster and body ring on her but she starts at like 14 health, aka she dies if a leaf hits her.

Amos:
Didn’t use him but objectively I would probably think he’s better than lenna. Otherwise the average growths in all stat seems like it’d make him an all arounder. might fall off if you’re not lucky with stats

Boulder:
Solid. Funny and effective build, best tank after Exia.

Morbick:
Morbidly OP. 1-3 range canto, huge hp, good attack, no wonder this guy can take on the demon king

Kassandra:
Is a healer, rally speed is nice though pharmos comes in like a chapter later. Perhaps she can be a rally bot if you invest into her?

Pharmos:
Kassandra on a horse, steal+ is nice, otherwise a good healer with good movement

Breeta:
Is an axe unit which makes her good cause everyone else uses swords and lances aside from sinclair. hit’s a bit shaky but will double often so pretty good

Ortega:
Solid merc and he can open chests, basically better thief

Laresta:
Extremely interesting and cool build, probably VIP if you wanna clear maps fast but since she gets little exp (dunno why maybe she’s treated as promoted?). But as a “jaegen” she wouldn’t work well because of her skill

Sinclair:
Good axe cav, decently tanky but she won’t double much, still good unit

Zalda:
is a myrm. Growth rates seems nice but I haven’t used her much

Shiraha:
Sorry to say velvet but this gal straight sucks. Health is way too low to tank hits or survive a hit if she backfires, luck is not high enough to negate the devil effect enough and she deals 2 damage every hit. She also doesn’t auto promote at 10 (probably a bug). Also Beryl exists so yea

Siara
I haven’t use her but she seems like she can get to crazy levels of stats with those growths. Hawkeye + is also very nice

Jormund
Very weak, gets doubled by everything in ephraim chap 9, dunno how much investment it’d take to make him good

Beryl
Faust tome is godly, also the enemy, has a chance to just die if they hit her, very good unit

Xandra
She looked good, I uh… accidentally killed her on a gheb crit. CURSE YOU GHEB!!

I find it tragically hilarious that all of my characters seem to suck.
Ah well, this is what happens when your first priority is to go for a weird niche instead of making them as overpowered as possible.

tbh I think it’s just cause her stat doesn’t synergize well with her niche, like if you put in a huge HP growth, def, luck and modest attack she could actually tank some hits. overall tho the devil niche is not the most attractive niche for a unit, if you want people to play her ofc

Oh, I don’t just mean Shiraha, I mean Lenna and Sinclair. Being good in a hack where a bunch of characters are overpowered just makes them quite less notable.

For Lenna the thought was to have good enough survivability to counter-critical all the things with Luna upon promotion, but Franz’s ‘meh’ stats along with the great base stats of Cavalier that I forgot he wouldn’t have upon not being a Cavalier kinda made the poor boy weaker than I expected him to be. (Yes, Lenna’s a boy, a bit on the younger side, but a boy nonetheless.)

Shiraha was the only one I thought would be hilarious, didn’t put too much stock into her here since I didn’t know what else to do with her aside from just going for stupid fun. Somethingsomething Rabbit’s Foot ability to go with the name, I dunno.

Sinclair… Eh, I forget the theme I was going with for them right now.

Glad you liked Ortega, I just figured instead of another busted unit just having someone who can just open stuff would be helpful, ironically making him stand out a bit.

I also worked around knowing colm’s personal bases are really bad but since Merc bases are decent it only really means he loses 2 speed but gets more in every other aspect it would balance out and he’d still have good starting stats at the minimum so he wouldn’t be dead weight.

As per his Heat Saber, the idea was actually due to how early I submitted him, we didn’t have any axe users but having a reaver with actual uses would work. He’s also a Gundam reference so I was actually genuinely suprised by the mug Someone chose since I don’t really think about how they should look.

(Borrowing your screen cap DigBick hope it’s alright)
Mug Someone used.

Who the schtick is based on
ortega-1-190x266

So all in all, I’m just glad I submitted a unit that, while not hilariously overpowered still contributes due to having some basic utility.

Quick question: what’s the general opinion you guys have of Fog of War?

Fog?

Kill it fire!! From torches specifically.

…I don’t usually like them, they’re good exp for staff users, but aside from that getting ambushed by a surprise luna Druid with a critical to the face isn’t fun, just annoying.

Fog of War is not only good game design, but it should be on every single map in all of fire emblem without question. The more fog, the better the game!

Back with another unit review, I just finished scorched sand on rune’s rout. If your unit isn’t here than they’re either in tharja’s route or they uh died:

Rune:
I promoted her to oracle and she’s uh alright i guess, her magic is kinda low but at least she has C in staves, anima and dark, once again festung just doesn’t go with her build

Beryl:
She’s a summoner now and continues being a better tharja, very tanky and faust is still super good. Her only problem is low con but a body ring makes that all good

Exia:
Can’t believe I’m saying this, but exia is falling off, i suppose it’s the shift from needing to tank vs just needing to kill off the enemies straight up, this also happened with boulder but with exia with the amount of mages and his relatively low HP in the lastest few maps he can finally get chipped down .

Lenna:
She makes a kick ass wyvern knight, doesn’t get hit much and crits a lot, only problem is her str is a bit low so she doesn’t kill if she doesn’t crit though she crits most often than not.

Morbick:
Remember when I said he was OP? surprisingly he’s just pretty good now, HP is still massive and 1-2 range bows are good but he’s a bit frail and his dmg isn’t as good now

Amber:
Good huge HP pre promoted sage, she gets counter a little after you get her which pairs nicely with her absolutely massive HP, her defenses are meh but you can still put her on the front lines pretty reliably

Zienfall:
Another huge HP tank, has the runeaxe which has infinite uses, it’s an iron axe that heals so he’s aight, more of a filler unit in my army

Ashnard:
He killed 2 of my units, gurgurant is crazy damage wise and it usually takes only one shot from him to kill jack shit anyone

Xiomara:
Summons OP masked hectors with brave axes, other wise she sucks, the op masked hectors have helped me out a bit in distracting enemies but they just don’t die which makes it difficult for them to divert attention from you other units, still tho the summons are good

Alear:
She has high skill, speed and luck and not much else, I guess she’s the least worst of the trainees but I dont see much reason to train her aside from you just wanting too

Boulder:
I promoted him earliest since 6 move is a godsend for a knight, he’s still a very proficient tank but since his guardian spear had ran out, he can’t kill very often, also the bigger amount of fliers means he can’t just chill out in a choke point

Beam:
He’s a breserker, uhhh yea

Eliza:
Seems a bit underwhelming stat wise for a falcon knight, I didn’t use her since I have lenna but maybe she could be an aight flier if yours died?

Breeta:
One of my Earliest promotes as well, her str and spd are very high but she’s super frail so I had to bench her

Kassandra:
She uh exists? I used her a bit because ashnard decided to be a jerk and killed of my male troub but not for long since you get magic unit in excess in rune’s route

Laresta:
Humm haven’t used her much, still seems good tho

Ortega:
Surprisingly I hadn’t need to open chests with him in a while, since doors are breakable and chests can be open with unlock

Sinclair:
kinda frail and her promo to great knight gives her -1 move, L

Tharja:
She’s back and also back to her old spot in beryl’s shadow

Hayden:
I guess technically he’s the best of the actual trainees in the rom or maybe it’s the other female pupil one? damn this guy is a total player phase unit

Black Knight:
Might be a better offensive version of exia

Ragnarok:
Extremely fun build, reminds me of the ability moxie from pokemon

Hecate:
this is my own unit so bias is always possible, but noneheless I’ll give my impressions, she has an infinite use 11 might dark tome, stone and dark shot, with lily’s poise and staff savant she has a huge range healing and tome wise, overall seems like a good support unit

Trainees:
I decided to just put together all the trainees cause I pretty much feel the same way about them, you could definitely train them up but in all honesty the selection of normal units and later on prepromotes are good enough that you don’t really need to, plus most if not all of them die extremely easily so yea

Well, I’m glad you liked her!

Once he reaches level 15 after promotion, he isn’t dying. Renewal is one hell of a skill.

He’s a bit slow and can’t dodge but he can be even more tanky than Exia once he caps defense. Offense suits his character more than anything.

That’s completely intentional

Will that’s good to hear from you. She not the best unit but Amber does have some uses sure. And I’m glad for that.

Huh. While using the powers of zap all the things I found that if you get an item while full it’ll make the game note durabilities of your original inventory as 0.
A

It’s displaying the Gaiden magic cost of those items instead of their durability.

It will seem village items still show durability so I’ll be playing a bit before another proper drop happens.
Edit: Got a drop in 5x and it’s showing druability there too.
Yep, games are weird.

Edit again?
YEP. I’m dumb, it just shows HP cost if you beat an enemy with Gaiden magic instead of normal items.

So I’ve decided to try and do an actual run of the latest patch (I’ve been mostly just testing stuff up to now) and gather ideas about more stuff to do. Here’s a bit of random thoughts about some units (I’d appreciate feedback):

  • Tharja: her bases still leave to be desired, and she spends way too many uses of her prf trying to get anything done.
  • Exia: I’m mildly tempted to install that one patch that makes enemies ignore units they do 0 damage to. Also, I struggle to see uses for his Steel Lance.
  • Lenna: his bases leave to be desired (his HP is particularly bad, and even his better stats pale in comparison to those of other characters like Ortega and Amos), and his starting inventory isn’t great. Maybe I should give him a Harmonic Lance or something?
  • Ortega: he’s cool.
  • Amos: his hitrates leave a bit to be desired, but otherwise he’s cool. He actually makes decent use of Lenna’s Slim Lance. Talking about Slim Lances, maybe I should buff their hit? (They grant +5 compared with Iron ones, in contrast with the sword version, that grants +10)
  • Boulder: funny how Amos bases are better than his, but I guess that says more about Amos that about him. Also, I wish he had a way of taking advantage of his Con.
  • Shiraha: on one side, her base strength sucks, so backfires aren’t that scary (even if she can still get killed if her opponent lands their attack). On the other side, her base strength sucks, so setting up kills for her is annoying.
  • Morbick: I don’t think anything needs to be said about this guy. He’s about as “balanced” as I expected.
  • Kassandra: a staff user with cool skills. Her promotion would probably be more interesting if normal Sages didn’t get Dark magic too.
  • Breeta: she’s cool.
  • Siara: her bases leave to be desired, but at least she has the excuse of being a trainee. She also has better base Mag than Tharja and levels up faster, quickly leaving her in the dust.
  • Pharmos: a staff user with better bases, a horse, and Steal+.
  • Beryl: she’s cool.
  • Zalda: he’s cool.
  • Rune: a staff user that can fight. I find Festung useful as it is, though there’s better weapons on the long run.
  • Laresta: a prepromote (technically) with a rather strong personal skill and prf weapon.
  • Sinclair: they’re cool. Maybe I could give Axe cavaliers access to Swords, like normal cavaliers get both Swords and Lances?
