What is the story’s hook? What makes your audience decide to invest time and emotion into the story and characters of this world?
Because my hack has a playable Wolf Jeigan.
I’m my own biggest fan. I’m my audience. I make what I think is peak. If other people like my hack, then cool! I can share my joy with them. If you focus too much on pleasing other people before yourself, you’ll never be satisfied.
i never considered them having a point, and don’t really agree with xil’s takeaway or any of the slinging your way here (nor implied i did), feel like i’ve been clear about that in my other posts. but if it came off like that’s what i meant, my bad, thats on me. only chimed in on the bait thing 'cause that is in part a thing where it is your fault that people think it.
if you do not think that’s the case, that’s fine, you can gladly just shrug this off.
Jason, you are a notorious slop-poster, feedback-ignoring individual, whose posts range from your “ideas” where you take no notice or thought from feedback - or make questions whose answer you came on your own before the post, and are about to ignore any other’s insight on the matter - or inocuous posts where you go on a long tangent for a post that just ends up generating controversy due to either your complete lack of regard for others’ opinions, the sheer neglect - or now snap back against everyone while labeling yourself the victim - of those posts when they don’t serve your echo chamber, or generally acting like your problems are the same as everyone else’s when writing posts and offering “solutions” that often create more problems.
These constant behaviours turned me from someone who would actually try to take your side and get mad when your threads would get nuked by the mod team because of “constant” slop (as the biggest mod team hater for irrational reasons) to just someone who can’t bother with your slop anymore.
I thought that it was all fine with threads like these on the Community tag where it could be about inocuous things or idle chatter, but yours have devolved to the point where the bias against you, at least speaking for my own case, can only feel justified.
Now let me be honest, I would have shit on you whether or not you mentioned one hack - as I would believe that a post on their thread for narrative feedback is just as valid as a post for gameplay/mechanic feedback - but
You treat your general postings as if you were making everyone a favor by being vague - and that is one of the things that I take the piss more with - a behaviour repeated for so long that I’ve lost track of where it first began.
You haven’t changed at all - so please understand if everyone’s attitudes and bias towards you don’t either.
also please consider that fallacious statements are not less truthful just because they happen to be a fallacy like not everything gets a “False!” adachi sticker because it happens to be a fallacy, some of them are false and some of them still remain true
Can i suggest somethin? maybe the mods can just merge jason posts to like 1 thread, that way people can just go to that specific thread when they wanna combat demon king jason. I’m actually surprised this thread’s open this long considering other threads have been closed for less.
I think it’s fair for both sides here since jason still gets to post stuff and people can just go to their thread to get mad. For Jason, if you do still make new posts instead of posting on this thread then we know your posts are not in good faith, because you’re given a place to express yourself freely.
If we wanna go further, make a special tag for these kinds of thread so people can just not engage with it, If they do engage with it then we know the other side is still biting. There ya go win win
Ideally, I’d rather everyone to grow the fuck up and stop harassing him, goddamn children. … That’s why I vote no in that poll.
(I have this problem where I think if I cuss enough, people will wake up and take me seriously. Never works, but I can’t stop trying)
See, no matter what the outcome of this whole debacle will be, Jason gets special treatment. Either he gets shafted to his own thread and isn’t allowed to make new ones, the mods go out of their way to warn anyone who harasses him, or people in the community keep on harassing him with no change otherwise. That is a sad reality right there, that this misunderstood guy can’t just try to make engaging threads. Yeah, I know they’re weird and long-winded, I read every thread on the whole forum… But, like… He always has to get harassed because some people don’t know how to say nothing when they got nothing good to say. This boils me up…and then just depresses me.
I feel like the best possible way this all ends is Jason continuing to post what they like, respond to serious posters, and flatly ignore all the haters. But, ignoring hate thrown at you is highly difficult…
As for you, @LeskLyfeld, you don’t know to what degree he has changed. You’re being blinded by your own confirmation bias against someone who makes weird, somewhat vain, and very long threads. What do you even want to achieve by telling him off? Hoping he just up and leaves the site? Don’t tell me you want him to change because you said yourself you don’t think he will. So, why are you wasting your time? Because you don’t know why you’d want to bother keeping quiet? What kind of reason is that, truly? You know he prolly doesn’t engage much in his own threads because nearly all of 'em get riddled with harassment, right? Couldn’t you realize that it’s hard to ignore hate when it’s thrown at someone constantly?
If I had any lofty motives behind my replies like those - I’d come in all caps with a “I want you to change, Jason, I want you actually engage with people, to actually understand that, as part of a member from this forum - that you have to coexist and communicate with others and compromise at times.”
But I don’t have anything like that. I don’t have any cool hidden motives behind me, nor any grandstanding to do.
Have you gone far back enough on his threads, when they didn’t get “riddled” with harassment? Those too were orphaned children, where you first see a shift from threads that got no traction - both from their unnapealing presentation and lack of communication afterwards - until being seen that around as early as November '22’s “Most Egregious” thread that Jason would only reply to posts that held him on disagreement - and this has been held true for the long part of two years - from where from that moment onwards you can also see that many of the Jason threads now have been fabricated to lead to this more frequently. Hell, look at the Glasses thread.
Opposition has never equaled harassment - disagreements have never equaled harassment, either. In my genuine opinion, you’re framing this as if Jason had been hung like a piñata to be beat down just because he happened to make a post, and then be beat down for it “like any other day”.
I’ll throw this to you, to my loss, because it will probably make your life easier - but either become a moderator, or let the moderators handle things when they happen. What you are doing is taking criticism/disagreements towards one person and taking them as your own - with a layer of trying to get a higher moral ground.
So I do beg, quit that. Moderators have closed up threads for less (and for more), and seeing the lack of action moderation (or warns), I’d rather believe that this “harassment” that you imply isn’t there in any form whatsoever.
I agree with the OP that we should avoid lore dump and put all the information at different parts of the story. Some as secret and some as twists. I don’t think people necessarily hate story or big explanations just because it’s big. It’s probably because they’re new to a story or topic and would like slow pacing. We should break information in chunks and allow people to build interest. I know this is easy to say and difficult to execute. Even if someone manages to masterfully execute it, some people may still dislike the work. And that’s fine because everyone’s taste isn’t same.
People aren't apathetic to exposition and story
I also see many people who are hungry for spoilers, or infos about characters of an old FE game. Like many people still don’t know completely about Nergal’s backstory. And now that I mention it they may go, search this in Google and find it. The crux of it all is that we should try to establish a connection between players and the characters.
Why I think people make lore-dumps.
What I said in my last paragraph may also apply to people who make lore-dumps. They might be trying to establish a connection between players and story but they fail because of large large exposition and information that people fail to process completely.
why hasn’t this thread been shut down yet (as for jason, i don’t know who he is as a person, but i am 1: not acquainted to jason shenanigans 2: a idiot who doesn’t really understand baiting. I hope jason can grow as a person to where he doesn’t make these posts no more)
Same here. I don’t really know who Jason is here too, and I also hope he changes, but it’s a bit surprising this hasn’t been closed down yet, especially since this wouldn’t be the first thread made by him to be shut down.
The biggest mistake I’ve seen when it comes to lore infodumps at the start of the story?
It’s not just about the length, or the dull textbook-like tone. It’s dumping information on the reader he has no emotional context for.
Long ago, the four elemental countries existed in harmony. Uh, okay, neat, they got along until they didn’t. Then the Fire Nation attacked? What jerks. You feel mild anger over these faceless baddies doing bad things to faceless goodies. Later you’ll feel way more rage at the Fire Nation when you have the emotional context provided by what the Fire Nation took from Aang and Katara and Sokka when we care about them and learn about their pain, but for now, this is just exposition, so we need to get it over with fast. Only The Avatar could stop them, but he vanished when the world needed him most. Huh? Why? A mystery to be answered later. One hundred years of war and suffering later, we discovered the new Avatar, now there’s hope, but he’s got to grow during this Hero’s Journey before we’re ready for the final battle.
Every line, every sentence, is important. He ran away from his responsibilities once and the world suffered through a hundred years of war. The weight of the world is on his shoulders.
Now imagine if EVERYTHING in the backstory was dumped on you at once in a boring tone.
The Earth Kingdom is ruled by a puppet king controlled by the Dai Li. The Earth Kingdom also contains a place called Omashu that has its own King named Bumi. Omashu was built by two lovers long ago and there is a song about them and the SECRET TUNNEL (SECRET TUNNEL! THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS!) they took to meet one another. The Fire Nation was ruled by Fire Lord Ozai, who favoured his evil child and banished his good child for objecting to a morally objectionable strategy. The Southern Water Tribe was ruled by a grandmother who made great Seal jerky. The Northern Water Tribe’s Chief had a daughter who has part of the Moon Spirit. There is a Swamp where people bend water in plants and a Desert where people bend sand.
Just dumping all this info, without any logic to it. Without any meaningful connections to be made. Without any real story being told. A tedious wall of text without any immediate relevance to the characters we care about, and without providing any sufficiently important context for understanding the characters we are about to be introduced to eventually. You don’t need a wall of text telling you about all the nations on Eirika’s planet and how some nations used to be friends until they weren’t if when the scene is over the characters onscreen are immediately going to say “Oh no, the baddies are attacking! But why? These countries used to be our friends!”.
The only thing worse than bad exposition is redundant bad exposition.
The funniest part of that hater’s unreasonable demand has to be how he misses the obvious flaw in his own argument.
“Jason Threads” don’t need to be labelled as “Jason Threads” because they are already clearly marked as threads made by Jason.
If my haters wanted to avoid my threads altogether, they could easily just do that. The mute button exists, these babies could just grow up and use it if they hate me so much, instead of trying to mob together and demand I get special restrictions applied to me. If they’re tired of seeing me they could walk away from their screens, step outside, and touch grass. Nothing magically forces them to come into my threads screaming and flinging shit, trying so desperately as a united coordinated force to derail threads and kill meaningful discussion of the thread’s actual topic so they can try and hold the thread’s lack of on-topic posts against me. I barely ever post on this site and that’s still too much for some “people”. This has to be one of the most pathetic harassment campaigns of all time, but it won’t end until somebody with power tells them no. Sadly, that’s never happened before in their lives, and this is the result, a generation that was never told no by mommy and daddy. I’m going to ignore their posts in this thread, but I know it won’t convince them to shut up and move on with their lives, or work together to make something artistically valuable of their own instead of trying to police how much I’m allowed to communicate in “their” space. I’m their obsession. They check the site every day to see if I post. I live rent-free in their heads whether I like it or not. I hate it, but they’d prefer to believe I’m a troll who actually wants them all this mad at me.
yeah i think we have long gone past the point where fighting OP is productive
@JasonGodwin7 spare us the joker rants, they’re not helping. We don’t need to see two paragraphs of gloating over the fact that you’re not reading the posts of people that disagree with you.
@ others: If you’re not going to honestly engage with the premise of the thread any longer (which is your right), pack it up. I’ll be talking to some of you further in private.
