Souls of the Forest
Tactical Breach Wizards, Hard, all Confidence Goals first try.
Good choice. I still need to get that one. At the risk of derailing the thread, have you played Gunpoint?
Probably CQ Luna? Or a Romhack?
Hardest one i played but didn’t finish yet is Reverse Collapse:Codename Bakery. That one is Really fucking hard. Really really hard
I’ve played every IntSys Wars game and just Fire Emblem 7, and I think out of that, I’d say it’s gotta be either Famicom Wars Blue Moon mode or SuperFW Yellow Comet mode. Both have a sort of inverse difficulty curve where earlier maps are harder and later maps are easier, but the final map of each absolutely pins you to the wall from turn 1. FW’s map has several small waves of units threatening your base, making it feel like a puzzle until you can get a foothold and start capturing properties. Meanwhile, SFW’s map is a constant stream of high-end units funneling in from one side, with just enough units to stop you from capturing on the other side. SFW might be impossible if you have the mercy rule on, I had to turn it off for that map.
But overall, I think the original FW has to be the hardest since it has more small maps early on. Small maps tend to give you less breathing room to build up your army in that inverse early game. SFW has only one small map, so the imbalance of starting income is offset a bit by having lots of properties to efficiently take on your side, which means generally less pressure starting out. That, and SFW’s AI is cowardly and easy to cheese, so it’s generally an easier campaign. So yeah, I’d say Famicom Wars. Possibly either route since it has an unnerfed Fist Peninsula on Red Star’s side. *shudder*
Special shoutouts to Days of Ruin for being the only final map to make me start over, though. And if I ever decide to power through Game Boy Wars 1, that’ll take my vote since the AI there absolutely loves spamming indirects and that is so aaaaaaaaaagh.
And to talk about FE7, that was Eliwood Normal mode, and I recall it looking really tough, but I had my man Oswin take care of a lot of the physical tanking. Most of my time was spent overpreparing. And of course, the final dragon was just chillin’ and not doing anything, so I was just beating up on a poor, lost dragon. ):
Probably Vision Quest Normal mode.
At least that felt like the hardest I’ve beaten, even with save states it was a challenging experience, it felt really fun to get the most out of every situation. Performing miracles with shove I didn’t thought to be possible.
I know this ain’t the most impressive but it felt nice to beat.
Super Tokusatsu Taisen 2001
for me either 3h silver snow maddening w/o ng+ (havent beaten the others on maddening yet) or fe6. for the record I have beaten thracia, and outside of a few maps, I didnt think it was that difficult but to be fair i did use a lot of staff abuse, berserk reinhardt for the win
Well, I haven’t played any hard FE fangames fairly(filthy casual👻). But I guess the hardest SRPG I’ve finished would be Yggdra Union: We’ll never fight alone PSP.
风恋夕林版新封印之剑
This is the first hack I’ve played, and it’s also the hardest one I’ve ever played :\
FE: Binding Blade normal is the closest thing to a harder difficulty I’ve ever beaten (although I never had the urge to do a full FE8 hard playthrough).
Outside of FE… Final Fantasy I (Dawn of Souls GBA version), if Advance Wars 1 doesn’t count, that is.
Uhm Blazing blade with savestate using
Damn I haven’t seen this this for legit might be over a decade. Bringing back memories from when I didn’t know what a srpg was.
The golden age of flash really gave us some bangers. World’s End, Mardek, and Sonny 1 and 2 were all parts of my childhood.
Played all of those too. God Sonny II was cool.
It has a badass ost. It makes literally every fight sound amazing
Damn! You’ve mentioned Sonny and I’m suddenly having flashbacks of getting steamrolled by an IMMORTAL ROACH ![]()
A rather… interesting romhack of Sacred Stones that was made over 10 years ago that I don’t want to mention by name. It might not be as difficult if I go back to it as a Big Boy with a Big Brain but I remember it being pretty tough. FE4 Binary wasn’t as tough, but was still significantly harder than Vanilla FE4 and is my favorite way to replay that game.
If we’re expanding to not quite SRPGs but strategy in general, I gotta give a shout out to the custom map “Wayfarer” for Heroes of Might and Magic 3. I haven’t beaten that either, but the average playthrough on youtube is over 20 hours long.
The post game of Disgaea.
I have only officially beaten 3 post games out of the 8 games in the series.
Honestly? Super robot wars og generation (part 1) on the ps2, That finalboss refused to die so many times.
Always nice to to see an SRPG have fun with it’s pair up mechanics.
