What are your favorite gameplay or story romhacks of FE Fates?

I’ve been itching to play these games again but want to try them with a new twist. There are a great many mods and romhacks of Fates that exist that change the gameplay and/or the story. Which ones do you guys recommend?

The Shadow Dragon Fates remake looks great, and Gay Fates is a classic. But I’ve been hearing about other ones like Project Re-Fates, Silent Waves, Fates Upgraded, Fates Plus, and Good Guy Garon. Are these worth playing in your opinion? Please let me know which ones you prefer.

Fates+ is probably my favorite, it’s vanilla with enough changes to feel like a new experience, especially in Rev where the unit buffs and some of the new characters will really freshen up an ironman or challenge run. The new chapters are also pretty fun

Also, I’ve ben told that Fates + changes the story somewhat. Is that true, and if so is it any good (for any route)?

Playable Lilith, make the character has her role heavier in the story

Not really, no, the paralogues are self contained, so it expands the story (and somewhat retcons some moments) but otherwise it’s not different

I’ve been playing through Abyssal Bloodline on Birthright hard mode and while it can definitely feel like bullshit at times it’s still way more fun than base birthright. If you aren’t a difficulty guy I would recommend playing on casual because it’s still more than enough of a challenge without the pain of resetting or losing units. It also comes packaged with gay fates so that’s cool too.

Silent Waves is really really good

Garonquest and Shadow Dragon Fates are fun, too!

If you want a unique twist but still being relatively vanilla, try the Conquest swap mod! Let’s you play with the hoshido cast in Conquest
