Unforgotten Realms: Legend of Life and Death [In Progress, 20 out of 30 chapters completed]

Once upon a time… In a grand grand old land…

Enter, Unforgotten Realms: Legend of Life and Death! Set in the titular Unforgotten Realms, it is a fantasy kind of facetious romhack where you play as a group of adventurers battling their way to glory. The backdrop is a war being waged between the living and the undead, which our heroes will get more involved with as the story goes on.

Though the game is set in the Unforgotten Realms universe, the romhack is still made as a standalone experience that people can enjoy regardless of whether one is familiar with the source-material. It’s also made so that people who haven’t played fire emblem before should be able to complete the game on easy, while hard still offers a challenge to experienced players, al though for a romhack I’d say it is on the easier side

Currently sitting at around 20 chapters, with 10 more to come, the hack features 50 player characters, a lot of enemies to go up against, and classes from trainees to T3s.
All the classes from FE8 that we all know and love are present, as well as around a dozen or so more which have been added inbetween each of the existing promotion paths, making the many promotion trees of FE8 into more like two large promotion circles with one for magic and one for melee.
You can judge the level design for yourself, though it’s certainly been crafted with at least some passion and attention. Like any good modern fire emblem hack, skillsystems is utilized, and there’s also many new spells and a few new weapons to have fun with.
Overall, it’s a fantasy romhack with all the plot, gameplay, and level design you could want from a great tactical RPG!

I’ve been working on this project for the last one and a half year or so, and have been around in the discord on and off a bit.
It’s meant as a continuation and conclusion to the main story of the Unforgotten Realms Live webseries that ran from 2016-2018, and I’ve currently got about 20 chapters playable, though there’s a lot of missing cutscenes and a couple of graphical errors.
I thought I’d post about it here, since it seems like something a lot of people are doing, and I do like forums. I’ll only be posting the old demo I made for now though, which has the first five chapters. If you’re interested, then thanks for checking it out, and if you send me a message, I might be able to send you the current version for testing and so on!
I might also update this thread at some point with more general info about the game’s features and so on.
With that, thank you for reading, and remember to stick to the plan!

EDIT: Can’t include links in my post atm so awaiting some way of doing that before being able to include the demo lol

In the meantime, ig I’ll post some screenshots:

Hi!

Think I’ll be able to post links now, so here’s a link to the demo along with some more screenshots! Enjoy! =)

To elaborate a bit on the game’s plot, it’s set in a fantasy world and takes place during - as the name suggests - a war between the living and dead.
The setting has quite a lot of lore and a general sword and sorcery vibe. Thousands of years ago, two sun dragons made the world, but when magic was created, the world was thrown into calamity, and the children of the sun dragons each became dragon aspects of different elements. Since then, there’s been many events, heroes, and villains.
During the game, various factions with different motivations join in the war and the plot thickens. Our heroes seek to go through this time of peril, and accomplish their various goals, impeded by the various enemies they come across!

Honestly the most wild part of this is finding a reference to Unforgotten Realms in 2026… I know Robert Moran thinks the series aged really poorly, so I’m fascinated to see how this goes

Lol, happy to hear it! Feedback on the demo would be appreciated if you’d like to download it and have a go!

Love for seeing anything Urealms Live in this day and age. I grew up in that show. So sad it was cancelled. I’ll gladly take any kind of ending of the show I can get.

Thanks, glad to hear it! Kind of surprised both replies so far have been from fans of Unforgotten Realms, I didn’t think the crossection with the fire emblem community was that large ha ha. Did you get the chance to try out the demo at all? If so, feedback on the plot and level design would be appreciated

I’m currently doing a rewatch of the series and looked around the internet for any fan projects and found one made in 2026. So I’m gonna have finish the series again and come back to the game after. I’m just supporting the drive and effort to make it in the first place no matter the quality.

Well that’s good with how long urealms live is the game might be out when you’re done with the rewarch then ha ha. And hey what’s that supposed to mean, “no matter the quality”? The quality’s great, it’s the best, just a “few” broken character sprites at the moment… and like incomplete maps with placeholder tiles… and missing dialogue segments… but other than that the quality’s the best ever dude

I always wanted to fill in the gaps between the various FE8 class trees, and so I decided to do it for this romhack! Finished up the reference sheet for the classes, and thought I’d post it here. The result is two trees, one for weapons and one for magic. Enjoy!:
