Thoughts on Yggdra Union

Greetings FEU,

My name is Gwenael and I would call myself an enjoyer of tactical RPGs (on a side note what is the difference between a TRPG and a SRPG). Before I learned about the expansive realm of romhacking I was on a search to find more games like Fire Emblem to play. The game I settled on was Yggdra Union (man am I glad that I did). It is such a unique game and I am consistently amazed at how all of the little elements combine to create one cohesive system. Unlike most I was not put off when I heard the game was complex, rather I was exited to be able to test my mental capacity and conquer the guantlet that is Yggdra Union. After venturing into the world of Fantisina I was shocked to find that the game was not as unforgiving as I had expected and on the plus side I found a rather comfortable experiance. One that mimics real life in the sense that Yggdra Union tells you just enough to know what you are doing and leaves you at that point where you know enough to be dangerous. For those who pay attention they might better comprehend their actions, but just as a veteran in a trade you can always learn more if you take your time to think about what you are doing.
After reading you might think I am a wizard a Tactical RPGs and to that I say…yes? No. In all seriousness I am not, and to tell you the truth I only at chapter 4 battfield 20 of Yggdra Union. But I find the small cast of 5 characters easier to stratgize with than the typical Fire Emblem roster of 12. Plus one of the more interesting mechanics is that there is no permadeath here but rather when a unit dies they lose their experience points are set back to their current level an lose some stats to boot. So instead of losing access to that unit (UNLESS YOU RESET) you are fighting with a unit that has actually been injured from battle.

Long story short, there is not enough talk anout Yggdra Union. What are your thoughts?
Have you played the game?
Did you like it?
Was it easy or hard for you?
