What if there were fan hacks that was based off this book series I grew up reading ![]()
Do it! Iâll play.
Yes, so I actually envisioned what an FE game of the first book would look like whilst reading the series in 2013.
I came to the conclusion that it would be very restrictive with little replay value. (and a lot of work to pull off)
The main issues being:
-It has an extremely tiny roster with the first half of the book only having 2 units (even if you make the girl a PC you wouldnât unlock/get to use her except for a couple of chapters at the end)(murdock would come and go a bit)(the dragon wouldnât be playable until a good chunk in and then would have to be a baby/hatchling unit)
-magic would need to be learned on a story progression basis rather than a level unlock basis, this is not conducive toward playthrough variety
In Book 2 Eragon is benched for most of the book. The adventures of Rowan (Roran?) would be interesting/cool, but eventually playing as a single juggernauting hammer user amidst a sea of green and red units would get stale. (Not to mention feeling very railroaded)
I donât remember books 3 and 4 super great, I remember Rowan sees more combat than anyone it feels like, and then thereâs the giant city under the mountain where a poor baby girl gets cursed and eragon has to take custody. I also remember book 4 went out of the way to make sure the reader knows that âwar badâ and âwargs are people tooâ
I think one would have to give it the Peter Jackson treatment and re-order/re-work several key story events/elements in order to turn it into an enjoyable and fulfilling videogame experience.
It might be a good one chapter hack for ROY where you can recreate one battle or a couple of chapters of the book.
