The Hag in White [COMPLETE]

Sandraudiga’s boss convos in the last chapter are really good. The one with Lopez in particular was hilarious (as is the fact that he had a boss convo with her at all).

Small visual bug I noticed, can’t imagine it’s harmful at all but;

On Chapter 19 in the base camp after Zaccheus and Teresa had their talk convo, I noticed that their support level was discrepant. Zaccheus had Teresa as a B level partner but Teresa didn’t have Zaccheus listed as a partner at all.

Lopez Kill Count

40 kills… that’s 6,000 gold! Not bad at all :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

There are no secret shops in this hack.

Potentially helpful bug on the new casual mode: when a character dies all their items are moved to the shared inventory, but then after the chapter the character (on casual mode) is still alive, with all their items (so you seem to get a copy of the items).

Good catch. Will fix.

Hello, wanted to make an account to express how much fun I had playing this rom hack. I don’t often do this, having only played Project Ember and Blessed Hearts before, but the premise seemed really interesting and upon playing, I was very quickly hooked on an interesting plot with plenty of thrown curveballs, and a compelling cast of smartly written characters that all got their time to shine thanks to how the support system worked. Below are the units i brought into endgame and my brief thoughts of them.

Units

Kyra was a fun protagonist and a really good player phase nuke. I enjoyed her maturity as the game came to a close and the strong themes of forgiveness she embodied. Her relationship with Edward was charming and her reaction to the fate of Elias was quite sad. Which was largely helped by his own compelling writing.

Apate was a bag of mysterious up until almost the end. I liked watching her story unfold and seeing her walls slowly come down. The healer being your Jagen was really funny but also smartly implemented.

someone who I thought i would quickly bench became one of my favourite units in the game and source of comic relief. Assassin promo is busted and I think i collected so much coin with him.

Hecate had some really good supports in the last quarter of the game. there were a few moments where I was sure she was the traitor, but the actual outcome and the parties response to it was so much better. I made her an artificer right before the second one showed up, which was kinda funny. she was one of my best units into endgame.

Loved this charming swashbuckler priest so much, his supports were fun to read and he was an early game carry.

Bandit trio is best trio. She was awesome and a really good unit. Her support with Phobos was really good, and I’m personally a big fan of bandit sympathy. No one is a bandit for fun after all. Love the group hugs

Probably my weakest unit in the end, but still found a niche with the buffs to great knight and savior, which made her the mvp of the map with the lost child and Ziying. Her relationship with her dad was quite charming.

My boy Pluto. Originally gave him a few maps because I liked his design and he was good for a laugh, but he endeared himself to me with shyness and need to feel like he was cool. Laughed so incredibly hard when he recruited his brother who I thought he made up. 3 range Snipers very good, he was definitely one of my carries.

Armor Knights are good in this game! so I used a lot lol. Wasn’t sure what drew me to Orlaith, as she point it, she seemed pretty boring. However, as the game went on, I found that she was a kind soul who had a knack for bringing out the best in others and grew to look forward to her conversations. probably my best unit, especially in the mid game where she quickly capped strength. She undersells herself, she’s not boring, she’s lovely.

You cant just give a second healer who can also promote into a general and not expect me to use him. I never got mend on him so I probably made a mistake somewhere. His progression to playable unit was really well written and fun to watch.

Last of the armor knight trio. He showed up and I thought “oh! he’s Don Quioxte!”, saw his speed growth, and then never removed him from the party.

Im a sucker for a masked/helmeted unit. I never got their full story, whether or not that was intentional, but what I got left me craving more. The Alastor side plot is really cool and I think i will try to look out for that on a future playthrough. had cool niche uses as a frontliner thanks to shade. Thought my game bugged when I lost them the first time lol.

Bit of a filler combat unit, but how could I not use Edward after he charmed his way into my heart and then was seemingly taken away from me, only to make a glorious return. Love that you said “we’re not doing the FE dad thing here”

Another mostly filler slot. Her prf skill is broken and she had good combat. I liked her conversations with Eupraxia.

Person I expected to kill halfway through the game and forget about, suddenly becomes one of my favourite characters?! Probably my favourite character from a writing standpoint. I had to reset the map twice before I figured out how to recruit him.

On and off filler slot who lost a lot of levels due to getting replaced with whoever I thought would have a conversation with the last couple bosses (shoutout Ziying, Coronis, and Demeter). She was still a lovely evil bastard who i’m quite glad got to ride off into the sunset with her love.

and of course

kill to coin count

Congrats on finishing your rom hack!

Ayyyy rare Órlaith user! Thank you for your impressions.

Yep, that very much was the intention with the character. Through elusive battle quotes and reading between lines you can draw a decent picture of who they were and why they’re the way they are, but this is very much one character whose main gimmick is “we may never know.”

I just made my account recently to start writing a review for this hack. I’m almost finished with my second playthrough, so I could glean every secret and story bits that I missed the first time around. This is one of the best hacks I’ve played, from the cast, who I found each of the members extremely memorable.

Story

It’s amazing from beginning to end. The plot is straightforward, but just like any story with a relatively simple end goal, the ultimate high of the story is the journey that leads to that end. When it comes to any type of game, I find myself having a habit of guessing each plot point and twist that may come up. Easily put, I was surprised by the majority of them!

From Pheme’s Death to the reveal of the traitor, and even who the final villain was going to be, all of these increased my enjoyment extremely.

Speaking of the villains, Sandraudiga is probably, if not certainly, my favorite villain out of the hacks I’ve played. I’ll delve more into it with her own category.

Units

Kyra is a great protagonist, and her overall growth in the story makes her compelling. From the bonds she held with the understanding and forgiveness of her character arc, all of it culminating in the recruitment of a big antagonist: Lorenzo. As a unit, she’s surprisingly tanky for her class! Her stats are beyond what I expected, so she’s effectively a player phase demon with a steel bow and an enemy phase nuke with shine.

Apate’s story with the Hierophant is really well done, with the bits of information given through the middle-staged chapters and the eventual battle. I actually believe that her always having a cure for Elias but not doing it to keep Kyra along was something I liked. It showcased that Apate wasn’t “good” in the traditional sense, and that morality deal helped to make the final chapter especially heart-wrenching.

As a unit, she barely has any battles since her job is being a healer and a damn good one at that as a Jagen. She is essential to any plan, even more so in the late game with her obtaining Physic, a lifesaver (literally) of a stave.

O glorious swordmaster, in every hack possible, I must have one on my team. With her recruitment and personality making it a no-brainer, she quickly rose through the ranks for my most-used unit in player phase. Crits were nothing to her; she could get them with little to no trouble. She and Jane are also really nice together, an evil margrave bastard and her greatest soldier, it’s peak.

She consistently carried both of my runs, especially in the late game with sages and artificers. Tomebreaker is a really good skill, and I never miss out on giving Hecate that druid promotion. As a character, she and Kairos are really nice together. I would be devastated if she were the traitor all along. Even so, it was only right that she wielded Greed.

Actual nuke with capped speed, nearly capped res, and capped magic, barely anything can stand in the way of Kairos when he rips them to shreds with Hurricane. His being presented as the “worst priest” got me interested in his character. And looking back through both playthroughs, it’s a twist of irony that the priest from a small town is the best priest for the whole land.

When things seem rough, drop in Raleigh and watch them annihilate with Flux. Early game, they took the role of my chip damage unit, allowing for my other units to take the EXP. But as things went on, they began to level magic much more than they did strength. So I ditched the lances for four Flux tomes and a vulnerary. As for the late game, they caught up in strength, so now lances are back on the table.

Their support with Plato is hilarious, and the dialogue with their father is heartwarming.

When I saw that there was a bandit who could be recruited, I jumped with joy. Rightfully so, considering she was my reliable boss killer in the early game. However, she did begin to struggle in the mid and late game because of her skill and middling hit rate. Secret books did help, though, and now she remains as one of my go-to axe units.

Her redemption arc alongside Lopez and Fango’s is great, considering that early game bandits usually don’t get love in FE.

Vulnerary farmer. Okay, I know she is supposed to be a middling unit, but I had to choose her the first time around over Scymerius and Frutocouso. I can confidently say that she is worth it, my Vasiliki has consistently outperformed the likes of Fiadh and Scymerius (when I got to them the second time around). She also saves me money, therefore top 10 unit.

My second general, and the one who took the tanking and brute damage. Orlaith’s character as a “boring soldier” couldn’t be further from the truth. Her being “boring” pushed me into using her; with the camp dialogues and the support she gained, I always looked forward to them. As for combat, while Raleigh held the tomes, Orlaith held the lances.

If I were to rank the cast based on character, Nicaea is in the top five of that discussion for me. At first, I thought that Aura was going to be the one who was recruitable, and honestly, the Est trope never clicked with me. So when Aura went back to that village with Nicaea, shock was an understatement when my glorious pegasus knight struck down Aura. Always a mainstay, and her camp dialogues with Kyra and Agari really help to skyrocket her to one of my favs. I do wish she had a support boost with Agari by the end, but it doesn’t hamper anything.

Unfortunately, as far as the party lineup went, she was on the weaker side. She had to pick up chipped kills before promotion. But once Lust was dropped in the late game, Nicaea made great use of it.

Last but certainly not least for the general squad, we got Eupraxia! An actual beast in player and enemy phase. For my first run, I got her early and promoted her into a witch, but this time around, I waited until I could recruit her as a general. I could throw her into tiles with sages around, and she would take no damage from combustions.

As for her story, her being the mother of Sandraudiga was another big surprise. I did suspect that they knew each other, considering their portraits leaning similarly, but it still got me. Eupraxia is one of those characters where focus isn’t placed on her, but she is arguably one of the most important lore-wise, and I really like that.

Her and Thyone being old woman yuri is amazing.

Her strength growth is insane, and seeing my Phobos being unable to level it, I decided to quickly drop him. Jane hits like an absolute truck. Sometimes, even iron swords were enough to one-tap enemies. She did have some speed issues in the mid-game, though, so I had to feed her some speedwings, but she definitely caught up by now. Her low res meant that she couldn’t completely dominate, so she was the one I had to keep away from magic damage, or that 59 HP goes to 10 HP real quick.

I will fight to be Beatrix’s number one fan. I love her character, I love her supports with Fiadh and Barlowe, and I also like the “righteous rogue” types, as Kyra puts it. Segell, Flux, and Eclipse are the tomes that she always has in hand. Even the bits of backstory that I could piece together through working with Alastor, and where she ended up, it is nothing short of well-done, peak even.

Did I say Eupraxia was the last of my generals? My bad, I forgot to include the healer general himself: Tiresias. Though his combat is not the best, being the only other healer besides Apate was the natural draw with him. Combat was rare for him as he focused more on healing and repositioning units. His progression of light magic was also cool to see whenever dialogue options were open in camp.

Last-minute addition to the party, Coronis! Trying to level her magic was an experience, so I had to give her a solar brace so she could be comparable to the rest. Her dialogue with Soter really gives me a newfound appreciation for her character, as I initially glossed over using her in combat. Her riddles were also pretty fun.

And last, but certainly not least… my second playthrough MVP:

Will you say her name?

Yeah, Pheme made quick work of Marina, she made quick work of Alastor, and she made quick work of Soter. Coming back to 25 str as a sniper at level 5 made her clear house. I thought that her new skill would hinder her since she didn’t have aptitude anymore, but it didn’t dent her performances not one bit. Wielder of Envy.

Sandraudiga (and company)

You love to hate her

The Grand Inquisitor

The Heaven’s Scythe of Tartaros

and the Champion of Light, who dismantled the dark lies of Dolus.

Where do I even start?

Let’s start with her theme. I salute you for giving her one of the best Touhou themes in Pandemonic Planet. It brought the hype to a grand level in finally facing her on. Even her theme when she goes all Lifewringer mode perfectly encapsulates what was a botched attempt, the worst decision of her life. Alongside writing and showcasing through sprites, another underlying aspect is the music, and this knocks it straight out of the park.

Now to talk about the battle dialogue, which is honestly what made me decide to give a whole category for Sandra in the first place.

Her dialogue with Kyra gives a lot for something relatively short. Sandraudiga truly believes that Kyra is her foil, her greatest one-of-a-kind enemy, and so she truly respects her as an opponent. It’s nothing short of stellar how their dynamic is set from the very beginning and built upon all the way to the end. It also makes the homoerotic comment in the post-game funny (and true).

All in all, she’s an amazing villain who stands out as one of the best in FE, not just in hacks but the games themselves.

Notes for other characters:

  • Alastor: Surprisingly, really accepting of his circumstances. I believed that he was going to lose it after being backed into a corner, but there was a level of honor that he held that he would die fighting, no matter what. His convo with Beatrix showed more of that battle honor, in that there was no hatred in their battle.

  • Marina: Out of the Alastor’s four, I thought that she was going to be the one who was recruitable. Her conversation with Scymerius led me to believe that when I tried out the Lorenzo recruiting option. I must thank the post-game for seeing more of her.

  • Soter: Rubenio did a really good job in making me hate him in every facet. I thought that as the traitor, there would be at least one redeeming quality in him, but there was nothing at all. A greed-stricken man who would turn on those who would stick by him until the very end, he deserved to die by Pheme’s (or Coronis’ hand)

If you want my concise opinion, I believe everyone should give this a shot!
