Merry Christmas, everyone. And yes, you’re reading that right.
I’m sharing the patch for Fire Emblem Szechuan Sword 2.
(this art is by my friend Sam who worked on the game)
What to know
On a real note as to why I never released it,
There’s probably nobody who dislikes my own projects more than myself. Most of the things I create rather dumb. It’s all just for my friends and I keep to ourselves and to make each other laugh. But Szechuan Sword was different. For some reason I decided to make that one public, and I probably regret doing so. Of course the game itself wouldn’t really make much sense to anyone. It was a project based on a long-running RPG series that, again, we keep to ourselves to make each other laugh. But if there’s one thing I can look back on and appreciate, it’s the fact that I dared myself to try something new despite the fact I had little to no graphic design experience at the time.
But why hasn’t this game been released? Even if it’s all for a joke, I was never satisfied with myself in creating my own projects. After the game was basically finished, I had big plans to revamp it to make it mean something more, to make it better. But these plans fell through as I never had the willpower to get back into the ROM and do these changes. And then that eventually turned into me sitting on it for over a year… sorry.
Now I’m releasing the original version of the game, of course we went back recently to polish some things, add a few new doodads, and ensure the “legacy” version is ready for the public eye. I’d rather have this version ready for people to play rather than letting those who were looking forward to it to be forever dissapointed.
So Merry Christmas, I hope whoever plays it has fun of course! And I didn’t mean that whole speech to be a downer or anything, at the end of the day I loved messing around in Fire Emblem. I just want to explain my rationale.
Game Download & More
Here’s a download for the game, and I’ll also explain some important info first.
- You can play the game from start to beginning perfectly fine. One or two characters might be missing voice lines and some other miscellaneous things could be incomplete. We all did a three-way test run before releasing it so hopefully it’s all sorted.
- The supports aren’t complete. The entire cast is supposed to have them, but we only wrote around 60 in time. I’ll make sure to have a future update later down the line with all the supports completed and also to fix bugs that players may come across at the same time.
- The game has a 17+ content rating. There’s nothing like NSFW in the game I can assure you. But it includes some vulgar language and offhanded references to things like ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’, ‘Superbad’, and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’, so I’m giving it an appropriate rating to match. It would’ve been 18+ if that was an option.
Video with all Voice Clips, if you get a kick out of that sort of thing
Credits
Okay, I know there’s a whole credit rule, but I’m kind of clueless on what to actually include. The game has nothing from the Repository (as far as I’m aware?). So I’m sort of spitballing here. And it’s been so long that I really can’t remember some specifics. But the last thing I’d want it to break some sort of rule.
