Project Description and Overview

Gravitas: Noblesse Oblige is the name of the Strategy RPG I have been working on. The primary influence being Fire Emblem. The game will feature 2 distinct aspects to gameplay:

  • Kingdom Management on a large overworld map with a pretty 16x16 tileset reminiscent of GBA era Fire Emblem. This primarily comes in the form of fulfilling the needs of your cities and handling the logistics of an army.
  • Tactical Battles similar to again, Fire Emblem, with several changes to core mechanics such as a Morale system, flanking and reworking how turns function to name a few.

In essence, you manage your Kingdom and when one of your armies moves onto an enemy on the overworld, you’ll transition into a tactical battle. The overworld is real time with pause, modeled primarily after how Paradox Interactive does their grand strategy games.

Feel free to follow me on twitter if you just want to see occasional updates on this thing. I post pretty rarely but I’m getting closer to a playable demo and as I get there I will be posting a lot more often about it.

What I’m looking for:

The portrait/sprite artist I was working with had some things come up and can no longer help on the project, so I am looking for someone who can match their style and fill commissions for me, and I am also looking for a composer.

I will pay on a commission basis and I will regularly offer more work. With the previous artist I was making new requests about every 2 months for a batch of ~4 portraits and sprites to give you an idea of work load as I expect you might have other commissions or you know, a job and/or life to plan around.

For the first request I would like to pay when the work is complete (you can still send the files after I pay, I just want to see you’ve actually completed it because if I can confirm you’ve gone through the effort there’s no reason for you to throw away the good faith). After we have established trust I am happy to pay half up front and half upon completion. I will ask that included in the price of the commission that I be allowed to suggest one round of revisions with no additional charge, these will usually be tweaks to things like a character’s expression or hair.

The general aesthetic I’m going for is a little more realistic than typical Fire Emblem and the game’s setting is based on the fall of Rome with lots of inspiration from celtic, germanic, gothic, slavic and hunnic cultures. So less brightly colored plate armor and more gambesons (cloth padded armor) and furs for example.

My intention is to eventually release this game on Steam and you will be included in the credits and because I am a radical who thinks those who participate in labor should also participate in the profits of said labor, I will offer a share of the game’s sales, though I can’t promise any kind of commercial success. Would that I could. This is all a long way off for now though, so let me get on with what my actual needs are.

  • [Position Filled]Character Portrait Artist capable of similar style to below examples. Portraits are currently 96x80 and include frames for lip flaps and blinking. Please let me know what you would charge per character when reaching out.

  • Sprite Artist capable of similar style to below examples(32x32, they pop off the tiles they stand on). For now I am looking for idle and walk animations (I will worry about attacks later). Usually, each of these will be about 4 frames. So far I have only needed humans, however I will be needing monsters as well. If you can also do UI elements, such as icons or menu items, let me know.

  • [Position Filled]Composer: The music is going to be heavily influenced by the setting and the biggest goal I want to achieve with the music is to help establish the unique flavor of each of the world’s cultures. I listen to various types of folk rock, namely celtic, and this is the type of thing I’m really after. If you are interested, I can send you the examples I have made with my limited experience to hopefully establish the general vibe.
  • UI/UX: I can implement designs into the game, but I need someone with better sense than I (a measly programmer and ideas guy) to create mock ups and assets I can use for various screens and interfaces.

If interested please reach out via my contact info at the beginning and share some of your work so I can see what you can do. Thank you!

Just an update letting people know I’ve found someone for the composer and portrait artist but am still looking for someone who can do map sprites, skill icons or UI/UX elements.

All positions now filled so marking this as solved.
