Shadow Dragon (DS), Genealogy, Thracia - Casual Mode

I’ve found ways to play pretty much every old Fire Emblem game with Casual Mode, either via hacks or cheats. (I know you can just use save states, but I’ve done it before, and REALLY don’t want to do it again). The 3 games in the title are the few that I haven’t found any way to do it, and there seemingly isn’t a way at this point. Radiant Dawn also doesn’t have a way yet, but it’s in the works.

Would anyone be able to hack them into these games, or find a cheat to accomplish the same task? I’d really appreciate it, as I’d like to go back and replay them sometime.

I just need this for geneology and thracia

Not exactly the same as base FE5, but New Theory of Thracia has a casual mode.

IK about that, but I haven’t played Thracia yet, I want to experience the OG story first

FE4 has same turn saves (basically built in save states) and a revival mechanic. Also its very hard to softlock yourself in fe4. Same goes for fe5 if you are playing with a guide (even then its not related to deaths really).

If anyone is interested, I found “better than nothing” cheat solutions to sort of fake a casual mode. In FE5, I might just treat someone as “dead for the battle” if I feel like they should have died, and just purposely not use them until the following battle. Note that I just asked AI for something like this, and I haven’t actually tested these yet. I won’t be playing either of these for months yet.

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War (FE4) Cheats
These are Pro Action Replay (PAR) codes, which work on emulators like SNES9x or hardware devices. They modify specific inventory slots, often tied to characters who naturally use staves (e.g., Claude for high-rank staves like Valkyrie). The Valkyrie Staff (item ID: 62) requires Major Blagi Holy Blood for use (which implies A-rank staff proficiency). If adding to a non-staff user, you may need to also modify their class or holy blood for compatibility.
Adding Valkyrie Staff with Infinite Uses
Use these to replace an existing staff slot with the Valkyrie Staff and set its durability to infinite (FF = 255 uses). The addresses below are for common staff-wielding characters’ slots; choose based on who you want to give it to. Activate in the menu or during gameplay.

For Claude’s Reserve Staff slot (common for Valkyrie):

Item Type: 7E400D62 (sets to Valkyrie Staff)
Infinite Uses: 7E400EFF (durability to FF)

For Ethrin’s Return Staff slot:

Item Type: 7E401462
Infinite Uses: 7E4015FF

For Edin’s Warp Staff slot:

Item Type: 7E401962
Infinite Uses: 7E401AFF

For a generic Rescue Staff slot (if unused):

Item Type: 7E401F62
Infinite Uses: 7E4020FF

For Diadora’s Silence Staff slot:

Item Type: 7E403162
Infinite Uses: 7E4032FF

If these overwrite something important, experiment with other staff addresses like 7E3FD162 (Live Staff for Ethrin) paired with 7E3FD2FF. Test on a save, as inventory slots rotate based on chapter/unit deployment.
Setting Staff Rank to A
FE4 doesn’t have direct rank modifiers; ranks are tied to class and Holy Blood. To effectively set staff rank to A (allowing Valkyrie use), grant Major Blagi Holy Blood (value: 20 in Holy Blood 3 byte) or change class to a high-staff user like High Priest (class ID: 38). Use these character-specific codes (subtract 24 hex for next character from Sigurd base).

For Sigurd (base for 1st Gen adjustments):

Holy Blood 3 (for Blagi): 7E2D4F20
Class (to High Priest): 7E2D4838

For Claude (natural staff user):

Holy Blood 3: 7E2D8F20 (offset from Sigurd: subtract 40 hex)
Class: 7E2D8838

For a 2nd Gen character like Celice (base):

Holy Blood 3: 7E312F20
Class: 7E311438

For other characters, calculate offsets (e.g., -24 hex per from base). Blagi Blood enables A-rank staves; combine with Valkyrie codes above.

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 (FE5) Cheats
These are Pro Action Replay codes. The Eternal Life skill (also called Immortal) prevents death by forcing lethal attacks to miss (units still take non-lethal damage but can’t hit 0 HP from combat). It’s encoded as 04 in Special Skill1 (a predefined hex value). To give it to all units, set Special Skill1 to 04 for each of the 36 character slots (covers all recruitable units; unused slots won’t hurt). Slots correspond to recruitment order (e.g., Slot 1: Leif, Slot 2: Finn). Activate before battles; works on emulators.
If you want combinations (e.g., Eternal Life + Steal = 06), adjust the value per the encoding (00: Normal, 04: Eternal Life solo, etc.). Skills are not pure bitflags but mapped combos.
Codes to Add Eternal Life to All Units
Set each to 04 (or your combo value) in Special Skill1 addresses:

Character 36: 7E5B9704

These prevent permadeath for all your units without revival items. Exceptions: Self-damage (e.g., Devil Axe), capture, or petrify can still kill.

Oh, and the one I’m using for Shadow Dragon right now. First, you have to transform someone to Elice in order to use the staff (they should already be holding it), then you can use it, and then you can transform them back to who they were (yes, some jumping through hoops). They also have to have an A rank in staves, which I got naturally and quickly with Lena so I could start using it. I just healed at every possible opportunity until she was A rank:

Here’s the adapted Action Replay code for the US version of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (Game ID: YFEE-29333951). This is the “shapeshift” code that swaps the unit ID of an existing character in your party to effectively turn them into Elice (or any other unit). Elice’s unit ID is 32 in hexadecimal. She normally joins in Chapter 23, but this lets you add her earlier by transforming another unit.

Shapeshift Next Unit Code
Press Y + L with the desired unit ID set under the 02197254 line (replace the example value 00000021 with 00000032 for Elice). Scroll through your units with L until the one before your target is selected, then hold Y and quickly press/release L to apply the change.
