That’s pain in two ways. First by making the enemies stronger, second by removing a lot of flavor.
(But what about mogalls? They don’t have a proper human counterpart)

Hmm… Maybe it he were to become playable but the mission statement remains the same, he has to die. You can play him, but he has to die. You can’t damage him, you have to use the map to kill him.
Like I admit that may still make the map easier. (He will be a free arena user thanks to being able to be in a win win situation.) But who knows, that would keep it in while making it miserable.
(Or maybe another boss could become playable as an unit unable to die so you have someone you have to protect in the middle of enemy lines battle before dawn style(
But I guess I can suggest that tomorrow as one of my changes.

You are aware that Saar would have way worse stats compared to his base games stats but decent growth rates to compensate his bad stats. Plus it would be very boring to not have at least one boss character turned playable unit in this pme.

Halve all the number of enemies (reeinforcements, enemies on map), and
make them twice as strong. Round down if there is a uneven number of total enemies on a map
