Each map that doesn’t have anyone new joining your army now gets a playable generic mercenary you can buy for (500*level) gold. (Add it to after the preps as a choice.)
Will have E rank swords, an iron sword, generic growths.
“Some guy hired to fill out your ranks”
He will be completely average, his level increasing by 1 for each one of these join.
Enjoy having mercenaries who are actually mercenaries. Realism or something.
These can either be like a genuine investment or like cannon fodder, both of which I could see being useful. (And besides, sword locked units are annoying.)
Give Mercenary the same promotion options as Myrmidon, we don’t want our mercenaries to gain tolerable 1-2 range or 2 range and a horse.

Instead of always being a mercenary, their initial class is randomized. They can be pre-promoted, in which case their bases are slightly increased. They cannot be Dancers, but can be Manaketes or Lords.

To add to this of their a Manakete they get a duskstone which is a dragonstone but with the bonuses are half of the dragonstone and for the lord they get a slightly worse rapier or the equivalent to it in their weapon rank(aka a worst Wolf Beil if its a hector lord class)

i remember i put an edit earlier on saying dragonstone bonuses were halved but had infinite uses so that might work?
