As what the title says, do people prefer making indoor maps, or outdoor maps when it comes to making their own hacks?
I personally prefer indoor maps just as that you don’t have to go through the dread of getting mountains/peaks done.

Indoor maps! For me personally, it is easier to let loose your sad- I mean creativity while still making it so that the areas are believable and can be integrated in terms of story/lore and gameplay.
Indoor 100%, making outdoor map, such as mountain, is always a pain in the ass
Mountain tiles cannot legally force you to be used, and if you have been mistreated by mountain tiles you may qualify for financial compensation.
Outdoor, the one indoor map I’ve made felt too big to feel indoor. However, I echo the sentiments of “fuck mountains.”
Outdoor. You have a lot more freedom to just toss things around, so it’s super breezy for me. Indoor requires more structure, so it takes longer for me to do.
I am also on the “fuck mountains” bandwagon but i do like making outdoor maps more. Interior design is not my passion ![]()
Woah! Don’t put words in my mouth, that’s libel I don’t want to mess with. I’m fine with mountains, I just dread sculpting them like I’m building Mt. Rushmore!
Outdoor. Messing with levels and perspective is a headache & I always feel the indoor tilesets don’t have the pieces or decorations that I want.
I think working with mountains is fine. I daresay I actually find it enjoyable. ![]()
I prefer making outdoor maps solely for the diversity of terrain. Being able to use rivers, mountains, forests, etc. feels a lot better than being stuck with walls and pillars.
Outdoor, I love making rivers and mountains
Outdoor has much more variety in terrain and interesting geography.
Most indoor maps have
No fort, armory, vendor, arena, village, or house equivalents. And while forests and pillars are close enough to be acceptable, they can’t be used as efficiently space wise (they require two tiles and most of the time shadows) and dont have the variance to look as nice when clumped closely together.
Things in general just take up more space indoors i find.
I like making outdoor maps better. Whenever mountains make me mad, I just replace them with lakes and decorate them with islands and stuff ![]()
I do like doing indoor castle maps though. I love doing interior design on them.
Outdoors I suppose, but I am also in the “hates mountains” camp. It’s very close though, because I do enjoy crafting layouts for interior work, especially if the tileset has some water feature elements and has an extremely cool palette…
