Hello FE Universe!
My name is Blake and I have been lurking around the FE Rom Hacking community for a very long time. Finally got the spark to work on my own project and have started digging into the tools that this amazing community has provided developers.
About me:
I was introduced to Fire Emblem when a cousin of mine bought FE7 on release. He lived several hours away from me but he let me borrow it after a holiday and I ended up binging the heck out of it as a little kid. I asked for the Fire Emblem game for Christmas and ended up getting Sacred Stones which was very upsetting at the time. Now Sacred Stones holds a huge spot in my heart as I ended up playing through it dozens of times.
I am a software engineer in my profession and have always loved seeing the amazing portraits and custom units that modders have created. The amazing work on the AI models for generating portraits and sprites started engaging me into starting a project since my art skills are horrible, but I’m fairly comfortable with the technical side of rom hacking.
All that being said, I have always been a big fan of both the FE and Runescape franchises and thought it would be fun to try out a crossover between the 2 games with how advanced the tooling has become for FE rom hacks. Would love any ideas people might have that also share my love for these franchises. I really want to explore an open world feel where the game can have divided regions with sets of chapters (quests?) and the player can choose which region to travel to. Maybe even try my hand at adding some kind of RS type skills which can be beneficial for travel/gearing/etc.
I might even try to commission some custom sprites or portraits in the future because the art style of FE8 looks so amazing when people make crossover portraits and sprites. I will share some of the portraits I am starting out with after playing around with some of the AI models once my account is old enough to attach media. Definitely some cleanup to do still but amazing starting points to just need the art skills to do touch ups rather than starting from splicing portraits.
