Is there a way to add "shove" effect to a weapon?

FE8 base

Using FEBuilder

I want to make the “blades” weapons (Iron Blade, Steel Blade) to have an effect similar to Engage where they can shove a unit 1 tile then decrease the enemy’s defense by like 2 stat points.

If shoving is impossible, then at least is the decrease enemy stat effect possible? How would one do so?

Disclaimer: ELI5 please, I’m really new to this  .

I know that once you add the Skill System patch, there’s a way to give weapons skills. You can either have the skill active when equipped or even at all times while in your inventory. BUT, that passively gives the character the skill itself. Meaning the FE9 and 10 shove skills become available to the character while holding that weapon.

It sounds like what you’re actually looking for is a way to activate the shove mechanic automatically in response to hitting someone with a weapon. I haven’t seen anything like that yet, but with any luck someone out there might know how to make it.

With FE8 Skillsystem there is a feature of being able to grant weapons debuffs like inflicting -2 Def on hit.

If your project is ambitious and you’re not interested in learning gba coding specifically, check out Lex Talionis.

Thank you for the checking, I’ll give up on the shove mechanic - it’s not that important :stuck_out_tongue:
I’ll try looking into Skill System though.

Thank you for that! I’ll look into it

Oh, no. It’s not ambitious at all.
I won’t even be releasing it to the public because it’s using two existing hacks as a base - so it won’t be appropriate to do so - it’s just a personal project focusing more on the writing rather than mechanics.

I was just being silly and wanted to give a class gimmick.
