Agnes Digital is so cute! Her passion for beauty is so infectious and charming. Sometimes it’s a bit much, but she’s still a fun character. I still like Agnes Tachyon more but I was thinking, I don’t have any lesbians in my game, but I probably should. Fire Emblem’s got tons of gay people, so I should do one too. But last time I thought about putting a blind firebender with a cool blindfold in an Avatar The Last Airbender fanfic I was writing as a kid I asked online for advice and I got yelled at so much I decided not to do it. In retrospect I should have made the whole fic about him, he was way cooler than any other character I designed at the time, but it convinced me not to take any risks artistically for years. He had a Fire Nation headband and he tied it over his eyes and burned the Fire Nation symbol because he fights the Fire Nation and doesn’t want to wear their symbols. I know some people hate lesbians, but they shouldn’t. I don’t. Would people really like a lesbian character? Am I allowed to do that? I don’t want to get harassed by psychopaths on the internet again.
Edit: Kureiji Ollie and Fuwamoco are my favourite gay Hololive girls.
I have no idea who Agnes Digital is aside from seemingly being from an anime, but to answer the question in your post, yes people would be fine with a lesbian character and almost all hacks these days have some form of LGBT representation, including lesbian representation, up to even main characters. And you should worry less about what some people on the internet say about something you wrote while you were a kid.
People are justified to not like people inserting shadowlord (the edgiest most coolest awesomest OC of all time) into an existing universe that absorbs all the attention while ignoring the existing characters people actually care about, really it’s just a variant of the Gary Stu (and you saying you should have “made it all about him” says it all really). I don’t have anything to add to the main question
I don’t exactly think Agnes Digital is anywhere close to being a confirmed lesbian more than she is an absolute fanatic about her fellow Umamusumes (to the point of having ingrained exactly how umas behave with each other)
and also a, if not the fanfic writer instead of hit post Oliver from hit game Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. I don’t exactly think you have a good grasp on their characteristics nor on who she is as a person.
Also no you will not be hunted down by writing lesbians
You may be hunted down if you write them poorly but that is a different story
Digital’s whole character was based off of her irl counterpart being characterized as weird for winning an unusual set of races in her career.
Calling her a lesbian as Lesk has said might be jumping the gun imo
Digital is more focused on SIMPING for other Umas and drawing YURI of her fellow students. She’s avoided interactions to see how Uma conduct themselves in their day to day lives
In the same vein I can see the similarities between her and Kpop fans; SUPPORTING and SIMPING their favorites and GUSHING over them
Umamusume writers aren’t inclined to explicitly label a character as gay. But they do love peppering their interactions with fruity subtext that could provoke such an interpretation. Personally, I don’t think regarding Agnes “simping for cute girls” Digital as some flavour of sapphic is unreasonable in that regard, even if it lacks the “confirmed canon” checkmark.
That said, yes, her behaviour is unusual and heavily informed by idol fan culture first and foremost. The other Umamusume are highly publicised celebrity athletes/media personalities in-universe, and she is a participating member in their fandoms. You should consider whether or not that would make sense in your own story’s context.
There are a million possible personalities you could give a lesbian. I’d just focus on sketching them out as a fully-fledged individual that’s shaped by the world around them. If something falls short, you can always make it better.
