How to splice portraits on Mac?

So I just got started in ROM hacking, and I need to make some custom portraits. However, I’m running FEBuilder on a Mac using Wine, and I can’t open any of the splicing tools I’e found online, since they’re .jar and I can’t seem to convert them into any usable file. Does anyone have a .exe splicing tool they can point me towards?

I think Aseprite works on Mac but I could be wrong

Aseprite definitely has a Mac version. Gimp will do the trick too—I made most of my portraits with that before picking up aseprite.

(Also, as someone whose crappy mac laptop decided to stop cooperating with wine years ago, I envy you)

I like Usenti for splicing portraits, but it’s a Windows program. That said:

I don’t have any Apple devices, but I believe WINE is available for Mac if there’s a specific Windows program you want to use. Wine is a combability layer for Windows programs on other operating systems like Linux distros and Mac OS.

Your milage may vary with compatibility layers though.

I personally use Piskel, which is just a browser website.

any image editor will do as long as it has settings to turn off anti-aliasing, a pencil tool, and have a way to switch on/off contiguous fill. I use photoshop so probably dont get that just for splicing, but there’s a lot of platform-agnostic options out there.
