Hi everybody
My question is how do you increase enemy growth rates in FE8?
I tried Yune, but some units’ palette keep glitching no matter how many times I’d tried to fix it (“The address is not compressed with lz77. The date is broken” - What does this mean? I tried “Extended List” to 255 then made another pallet address and assigned to that broken unit. It worked for one chapter then it happened again
)(Also the Fili Shield doesn’t work in that rom, and Saleh spawns with a recover which he doesn’t have in the original game)
So I tried increasing the growth rates of each class manually by +20% in FEBuilder. The early game is fine but when it gets near the end the enemy gets too strong. I think with additive growth, 20% is too much (also why does the boss Beran in chapter 10 of Ephraim route get affected by the growth rates of the Ranger class which I change? I thought boss characters have different unique growths not relating to their classes?).
Maybe scaling is more appropriate, but other than Yune which is broken, I don’t know any other way.
So what do you use to increase enemy growth rates in FE8?

Characters with a unit ID below a certain cutoff use class growths instead of character for hard mode bonuses and auto-levels, and that includes all the vanilla boss units.
As far as scaling enemy units throughout the game, I find it’s better to gradually raise the hard mode bonuses every few chapters, rather than massively spiking their growth rates. Only start raising growths once you reach the max number of extra levels (+15) and you still feel they aren’t strong enough. Even then, a little goes a long way, especially on promoted units. A 5% increase on a 20/10 enemy with max HM levels will be noticeable.
I’ve tested and found that increasing 10% growth manually in FEBuilder is mostly like boosting 30% growth by scaling using Yune. Enemy’s speed stats are around +3 compare to the og game, and I think it looks nice enough.
How do you “raise the hard mode bonuses every few chapters” though? I think I might like this better because I want the enemy strong but in chapter 10 if I raise the growth rates then Beran’s speed stat is a bit higher (+1) so Duessel gets doubled by him and it makes him too tough to beat and I don’t like that.
There should be a “chapter editor” tab in Builder that lists the level bonuses/penalties (yes that’s a thing) for each chapter. The first number is how many bonus levels enemy units get on hard mode.
Ah I see, this right?
So I should adjust this number higher for tougher enemy (max is 15). And when I feel like even that is not enough then I would increase the enemy growth rates in class editor. Correct?
That’s the long and short of it, yes.
