  • soft iron man (if my lord dies I donā€™t start from the beginning of the game)

  • I only reset for the characters that I like or recruit more characters

Hear me out. Iā€™ve played stuff like HHM, Lunatic+ Awakening & Fates on classic before. But I cba playing without having mid chapter saves anymore.

tbh I play casual on my first runs nowadays but since itā€™s only my first run (and I play a lot of fire emblem) I put my vote as ā€˜resetting for certain charactersā€™

Reset for every character.
Canā€™t have these cartoon characters I look at once and then bench die, now can we?

I miss clicked casual mode so I guess thats what I play.

Depends though, some romhacks I play soft ironman,
main series games usually reset for every character.

I donā€™t play the same way every time, but usually I tend to reset whenever a player unit dies. (I can also reset over minor stuff like not getting a treasure.)

In Path of Radiance I kept replaying the jail chapter with Mordecai and Lethe because I wanted to get the max BEXP, though eventually I gave up and looked up a guide on it because I got tired of replaying the same chapter so muchā€¦

But sometimes I just canā€™t be bothered to reset even if some character dies, especially not if itā€™s one I donā€™t care about.

Sometimes I start the game thinking ā€œthis time will be an ironman runā€ and Iā€™ll stick to it for a long time despite deaths that wouldā€™ve caused me to reset, but then at some point I might really not liking a character dying and reset anywayā€¦

Also, it really depends on which game Iā€™m playing some are just not fun to play without resetting.

Typically I reset, but in pretty much every game with casual mode I go with that, even if I wind up resetting sometimes anyway.

I get way too attached to the characters to willingly go on without them (the main reason I donā€™t do ironmans honestly), but a lot of the time Iā€™m just not in the mood to reset (usually if the map is long/boring), so itā€™s really the best of both worlds as far as Iā€™m concerned.

If Iā€™m playing FE, itā€™s because I want to hear the satisfying sound of Neimi deleting Formortiis with a critical, Sain stabbing something with a lance for the 42185619527051th time or watching Shanna be the best FE girl, not to suffer through not having my favorites. But like if Lance dies or whatever in fe6 i could care less lmao

Except for the newer FEs, unless I really liked someone, I let them die.

I enjoy playing with perma death but restarting the whole game if I get a game over is too much for me.

I remember in my very first playthrough of Path of Radiance when I was a kid, Boyd died early and I didnt reset fot him because I was used to fighters being bad from the gba games. Now when I play PoR I use him every time.

Reasoning

Especially if i already played a game a normal playthrough can be a bit boring, and reseting a chapter every time someone dies gets repetitive and take away the fun pretty quickly.
Vital Characters dying can really change up how you handle certain situations, and give you a new appreciation for units youā€™d have never used otherwise. Deleting the save when a lord dies makes the stakes to play well that much bigger, and helps me to not grow complacant.
I remember the first time i did a real ironman with FE6 hard mode, semi blind. I got to the end with almost everyone dead, but i made it nonetheless, ever since then iā€™ve done almost exclusively ironmans. Exceptions being meme runs or romhacks of which im not sure if theyā€™re ironman friendly at all. Currently doing Conquest Hard Blind ironman, been great fun so far

Kidding, Iā€™m just fond of the permadeath idea that I like ironmanning my way. Gives you more reasons to replay the game.

I usually vary from resetting for every character or an ironman except for certain characters like Lords.
