I started an event but when I set 5 units and went to the preparations screen, only 3 were deployed.
Can you elaborate with pictures? I don’t want to guess at what you mean and over-explain.

Putting a load before the prep screen does not mean the preps will use that load. Go to unit placer and specifically edit the unit group labelled “Player Placement”.
