Fire Emblem: Dark Stone - FE8, but you play as the bad guys! [Overhaul with a new story]

Finally got around to playing through. I’m at the end of the route split now. Haven’t been able to put the game down. The writing is even more top-notch than the previous two story-driven hacks. The six generals of Grado have been a standout, and I can’t stress enough how much I enjoy their added depth. If you continue making more story-driven hacks, I hope they follow suit in terms of adding characterization to not just the MC but their confidants as well.

And the interpretation of Lyon here is just… chef’s kiss mwah. I do love me a tortured soul of an antihero like your version of him. I’ll try to learn spoiler tags to leave a full review when I’m done, but narratively I would say this is maybe the best fan work of Fire Emblem I’ve ever played. Especially if it sticks the landing with the endgame, which I have every reason to expect it will.

Haven’t even started the game yet, but this sells it. 10/10, no question. … (Oh god, now I’m curious where this plays…Agh! There’s a route-split, do I have to pick one specifically…?)

About Route Split

You don’t have to pick. You will get to play both routes by switching back and fourth between them.

route split

Yeah, it’s more of a party split then a route split

Extremely high praise. That means a lot, seriously. Thank you! Lyon’s always been my favorite FE villain and I always enjoyed his generals as well, so I had great material to work off of.

When you reach the end, please post your team, if it’s not too much trouble. Like always, I enjoy seeing people’s teams.

The main game uses primarily vanilla music, at least until the later stages. This plays in the postgame. It almost wasn’t in the hack, in fact, but one of my testers said the postgame music got a bit repetitive since it was the same for all 10 floors. So I grabbed this to be the map theme for the latter half of Lagdou Ruins.

Guess I’m dragging my merry band of war-criminals to the Lagdou Ruins when I finish the game then.

I can only hope Novala gets a better ending this time; still feel bad for how Lament did him…

I’m curious, is there a way to find who the “Real” one is, in chapter 22 ?

There is indeed

As it is hinted at in the chapter intro, Innes will not be able to keep his cool if he confronts his father (or his mother, but that’s a very stupid idea) in combat. So you can try having Hayden longbow each of the Inneses and see which one has a battle convo with the man.

Accidentally got Duessel killed, but decided to continue anyway since Marmalade or whatever her name was was apparently the last unit he could recruit or talk to.

Then I accidentally triggered the Hand Axe glitch, so y’know…having fun so far.

…Hold on, I think O’Neill just died. He vanished into thin air after that.

Ohhhh, god, I’m going to die – that’s just Galzus isn’t it?

The hand axe glitch? I have no idea what you’re talking about. Could you be more specific?

He had to go. His planet needed him.

It’s a specific situation where one unit has the devil axe and the other has a hand axe. If the devil axe effect triggers, and the hand axe unit belongs to a specific list of classes their attack animation will trigger before the devil axe effect has finished. This causes the game to softlock and requires a restart of the chapter to correct. You can see it in effect here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BQsUGakQlc

FEBuilder may have a patch to correct this, but I’m not sure.

More or less, yeah. Technically doesn’t softlock, it just takes a while. As you could see from the image I posted, the enemy Hand Axeman’s HP raised to a completely ludicrous degree as he ascends to godhood, his deeds recognized by those above from the act of smiting this heathen. Poignant.

Path Split

I kiiiinda wish I knew which units were going with which party for the route-split ahead of time, because I just got to Port Kiris, armed with my entire bench. I haven’t given Glen a single kill, since I’ve been Valter-favoring – so many of these people are just completely untrained, I am going to diiiiie… :'D

There’s an entry in the guide that tells you that you could have looked at before going into the chapter

If pushed comes to shove, you can train in the tower of Valni

Hello All! I made a first time Iron Man of the fe6 bad guys hack that Rubenio made and it was a blast! Just found out about this a little bit ago and I’m going to try the same thing with this one! Come join me tomorrow for my blind iron man! Hope to see you there!

Hey, congrats on another villain main hack. Could you tell me what was on the 2 houses on chapter 17, Im playing on the hardest difficulty and I took the path on the right, it was not possible to reach them in time, so Im considering replaying it and going through the left side if the rewards are worth it.

Chapter 17 Houses

One gives Juna Fruit. Another one gives 100 Exp to the visitor.

At least you get access to the Tower of Valni when the path split happens, so worst comes to worst you can train up some dedicated A or B route units there.
