[FE8] [WIP] Tale of Valor [CANCELLED]

This is a phenemonal hack and I enjoyed my time with it a lot. I could tell it was made with a lot of passion and love which was absolutely delightful. I played the old demo before you buffed all of the units so it was kind of like playing on hard mode but it was a good challenge and always felt fair. The units themselves were good and everyone had a roll to play with the caveat that I could deploy everyone and didn’t have to choose who to leave on the bench. Your choice in music is extremely cultured, Blinded by the Light as the prologue’s theme was amazing.

There were a few bugs, most prominently within the Intermission. Intermission 1: all of the characters except Leuric were invisible. I could still Talk to them but I had to search the entire map to get them all. The movement was a little squirrelly as well, sometimes the cursor would not move into certain corners or tiles unless I kept mousing over it. There were also two NPCs I couldn’t interact with, some newspaper NPC and a guy talking about an axe? I am not sure if they could be interacted with or it was just flavor dialogue.

Intermission 2 was worse. All the characters were visible but if I talked to Gaskon or Esker I got a Game Over after Waiting. If I moved and waited without talking to anyone I got a Game Over.
I am also playing on mGBA if that makes a difference.

I posted earlier in the thread about being confused with 1-2’s objective. I think for clarity’s sake you should have the objective as ‘Convoy Arrive’ instead of just ‘Arrive’. I lost out on two good levels for Ritzel because I didn’t realize that. ;.;

Also, Gaskon feels a little…whelming for a unit you have to pay 500 gold per chapter for. The man is starting with 7 speed and asking me for 500 gold per map. XD He’s weirdly slow for a myrmidon so maybe he’d work better as a mercenary instead? I see what you are doing with his prf and the
1-F boss having inheritable Wrath but I am still not sold on this guy. I also think him ditching you forever if you don’t got 500 to pay him with is a little brutal. Maybe he could be grayed out in the deployment if you can’t pay him preventing you from using him without coughing up the cash instead? Admittedly, the hack is only a few chapters so I am not too sure how generous you’re going to be with the funds so 500 gold might not be a big issue if the player isn’t blowing it all on Killer Weapons (wouldn’t be me <.<)

Hey thanks for giving the demo a go!

-The Blinded by the Light theme was made by Drewinator, who also made the preps theme. They are amazing and nailed the music. (Which will be made F2U soon)

-I’ve had a couple people message me about the game overs in the intermission chapters, the latest patch should fix that issue. I’ll look into the invisible characters, it tends to happen when your skipping the start event so I’ll make sure to fix that.

  • Some NPC’s don’t have talk conversations, they have dialogue events in-between the player phases.

  • 1-2 Was missing a dialogue event where the mechanics for the chapter were explained in detail. Not sure how that got cut but it’s re-inserted in the new patch. I do however think it’s a great idea to change the objective to “Convoy Arrive”, that’s a superb idea.

  • I had the feeling some may feel that way about Gaskon lol. To me Gaskon can serve as a really strong early carry. He’s intended be a slow myrmidon (I like being unconventional), but with some slight investment he could easily clear enemies in 1-2 rounds of combat. If he doesn’t feel worth it to players, than I need to make worth it. I do agree with the fact that him just abruptly leaving is really harsh. I wasn’t able to come up with a way for un-deploy himself, but now that you’ve mentioned it, I’ll look into finding a way.

  • I really do appreciate you playing the demo, it’s been a lot of late nights trying to get this out. Your feedback is already giving me ideas on how to improve the demo, so thank you.

I’m on chapter 2 so far and I like the changes so far to the first two chapters.
My headcanon is that Betsy never gets defeated /dies
she merely is resting until called again.
And the fact enemies that hurt her get hurt back is karma.

I figured some people would want him their despite being unplayable lol. I feel bad that people won’t be able to use him till the next patch, but the next patch will come out soon

This is just a nitpick and maybe this is just gamer brain but the scenes that have units move into place take forever lol, like the end of the prologue chapter with the knights delivering a message and the start of the first intermission where Lueric visits his mom the units walk really slowly

but other than a few spelling/grammatical errors and the previously reported bug of units being invisible on intermission chapters, everything has been going well

You are not wrong abt them moving too slow lol. I need to go back and adjust the timing on those scenes, I didn’t account for people playing on slower game speeds. That’s on me. I’ll update this, super good note!

Not sure if the sleep staff didn’t hit or it’s not working.
I hit several monsters with it and it shows them not dodging but when i check them they have no sleep status nor do they sleep.

Would it help if I went through again and proofread? I could compile typos and stuff if you wanted

Yes, I experienced the same bug. The animation shows the staff hitting, but the monsters aren’t actually asleep afterward.
