Back in the summer of 2025, I was trying to make an original hack. Which got shelved in favor for what was initially JUST a way for me to practice mapmaking, I got a little too attached (and a tad more interested) in the titular hack presented in the post.
[I was a little worried about publicly posting this, I want to make sure I have all my sources properly credited. I do encourage letting me know if I should correct anything in the provided text file!]
Development has been a little sluggish, partly because I was working from November - January. I try and chip away at this every day, and frankly? I think I need to distance myself just a bit.
The plan was finish up to Chapter 10, but today I decided: “Screw it, I’m releasing what I have now!”
I apologize in advance for the mountain of dialogue I wrote
FUNNY THING, ACTUALLY! This hack wasn’t supposed to have a plot!!!
Moral of the story: Do not change your mind, keep to your initial vision. Otherwise you get too attached to a throwaway project.
My goal is to make a game of moderate difficulty that is very forgiving to the player. I can be a tiny bit evil with my decisions, however!
A little about the hack itself: I want to try and work on this with zero pressure. Expect it to be a little on the sillier end in-terms of writing! I originally wanted players to headcanon whatever they wanted onto the units, but as stated earlier, I got a little attached to the project and decided to try my hand at writing what personalities I projected onto ‘em. Regardless, I still encourage my playerbase to have fun in whatever areas I’ve yet to touch upon. After all, suggestions from friends helped shape a few established plotpoints. That makes the journey all the more satisfying!
Plot: Chieftain Sarika of the Frog Clan suspects a great threat is afoot. Lord Easton of House Etezeur has been flooded with letters whom he refuses to read… Choosing to ignore them instead.
Edmund, son of Easton. Decides there’s a huge opportunity to be a real hero for once and not sit around all day. Contrary to the advice of many to stay out of these particular matters.
The final plan is to make a 25 chapter campaign with at least one route split? You don’t explore the entirety of Kaldesi, just the eastern plains of Hulsia and a small detour through the frozen lands of Caswen or the desert civilization of Naleret. (WHICH I HAVEN’T GOTTEN TO YET, BUT THAT’S THE VISION!)
I think one needs to start small, before they work at a larger scale? Worldbuilding was only a recent addition, but it helps a lot!
SOME OF THE CAST:
Edmund: A noble with a kind heart. A rather impulsive youth, who wants to prove to the world that he’s a future leader they can trust. He’ll learn just how much responsibility comes with the role. Not the brightest individual, and that future he envisions does come into question.
Just a little bit of a petty little princess, y’know?
Till: Lord Easton’s spy. A crafty, yet irritable sort. She was taken-in by Easton as a child, but never truly adjusted to the lifestyle. Either to put up a tough exterior, or (more likely) is extremely stubborn about changing so drastically. I’d write more, but I think it’s best I keep my mouth shut.
I’ll have more to say about her… Whenever I write more within the hack itself.
Sadie: A worrier. One of Edmund’s closest friends, an anxious girl who tends to get a tad clingy around those she holds dear. Probably unfit to be participating, but this Edmund guy never went in with a proper plan. That’s our Sadie: the loyal, yet, very emotional knight with a strong desire to protect her friends and family.
Jun: Sadie’s older brother, a skilled archer who’s bad with directions. Absolutely nothing like his sister, doesn’t want that trauma to define the person he is. Not the brightest sort, and tries to cover that up by using big words he more than likely doesn’t know the proper meaning of. Inscrutable as he might think he’s being…
Yvette: The daughter of House Etezeur’s finest knight captain. She’s let it go to her head, it’s all she ever brings up. Yvette so desperately wants to be just like her father, that it’s caused many to distance themselves whenever she’s close by. She tries her best to come off as a nice person, but only provides assistance to her own benefit.
Dulcie: A 10 year old hustler who’s in it for the love of the game. No goal, no intentions, just felt like doing it one day. All this to say, I just thought it’d be funny to design a playable like this.
Briar: Edmund’s tactician, a mysterious individual who willed their way into the group. They’ve also suspected there’s a much bigger threat. Knowing more than they let on, Briar isn’t without their moments either. Hulsia is their home, and they want to be the change they see in the world. However, such a task cannot be done alone. I’d like to think Briar and Edmund share similar ideals.

Sarika: I’ll be honest, she’s just mentioned and never actually on-screen yet. But she’ll be relevant eventually. All’s I can say about Sarika for now is that… She’s controversial to many.

That’s all I got for now.
