[FE8] Sacred Stones Reforged v1.0.4

Yeah, I meant the og trainees. I loved Mina, great add, unfortunately mine died in the fluorspar chapter, she’s great, but so squishy (i’m playing on lunatic). I would have promoted her to duelist, but, to nitpick again about animation sprites, Lyn regular sword promo animation is nowhere near as cool as the solkati animation, which I would have preferred to be the standard for Mina.

I think they have 15 crit and Weapons faire are quite good to me.
The last think those trainees need are good debuff skills
Like:
Ross - Crit15/ Axefaire/ Def debuff.
Amelia - Crit15/ Lancefaire/ Speed Debuff.
Mina - Crit 15/Swordfaire/ Str & Mag Debuff
Ewan - Crit15/ Tomefaire/ Res Debuff :+1:

I mean like this

I busted on this level and made it right at turn 10 lol. I had read this earlier and misremembered it as 9 turns or less so i was sad when i reach turn 10 but glad i was wrong lol

I myself had the same issue.
I went back and messed around in the area again and noticed if you take the sword then enter the house with the old man that can give you Pure Water, the old man acts as though he gave you the water already. If you get the Pure Water first, the sword guy acts like he gave you the sword already.
I’m guessing something got linked to the two by mistake.

Super fun hack. Loved it.

Got some questions, though.

First, ive seen several people mentioning a character named Alice, but i never encountered her. Where is she supposed to show up?

Second, some people mentioned skills being dropped by enemies, but that also never happened for me. Is that something that only happens on higher difficulties or ironman or something?

Also, i think its a little funny that you got rid of Renewal for Entombed and throne/gate healing, considering that the Tower of Valni is right there lol.

Alice is exclusive to eph route and skills drop only in lunatic last I heard

Word, thanks for the reply!

I triggered this myself too

Ohhh ok I see the issue, must have used a shared flag here by mistake

Alice only appears on Ephraim route in the ch10 district. Lucan is exclusive to Eirika route by comparison.

Skills will only drop from a boss on lunatic mode as well.

I opted to remove renewal because the early game entombed could be basically infinite farmed on Lunatic and I am trying to prevent methods of infinite exp farms on Lunatic specifically (the tower doesn’t open early game on Lunatic)

are you plan to make more exclusive units on both route?

Now that’s a low kick… Why are you limiting the tower on lunatic? after all most hardcore fans ignore it and only those of us who want to grind do so.

Just play the game normally.

anyway, it would take too much effort to individually edit every item and item shop in order to add in durability

I’ve put my thoughts on the hack below, I really, really enjoyed it!

A long review of the hack

So, I’ve finished one playthrough of this on Eirika route and am partway through an Ephraim mode playthrough, and I would like to share my thoughts on this hack, especially targeted at those who may be skeptical about playing this.

First of all, I think it should be noted that I don’t normally care about redux hacks very much. I tend to find a lot of them (without naming names) make changes to the base game that are not very fleshed out and can end up worsening the experience of the base game. However, I still played this hack after seeing the trailer, and boy am I happy with that decision!

This hack is incredible! It feels like I’m playing through a whole different game while also maintaining the feel and charm of vanilla Sacred Stones, which is already one of my more preferred FE games. The added CGs to story cutscenes are extremely well done, being impressive both because of their excellent art that matches the style of the original CGs and due to fitting with the scenes so excellently that they may make the originals feel jarring. In addition to this, a few units have had portraits touched up in ways that make them much cleaner, not to mention the gameplay changes to several characters.

A large number of characters are now capable of promoting into a different class that changes them quite a bit, such as Artur, who loses the ability to promote into Sage but instead gains a new class called “Light Sage” which functions similarly to the vanilla Sage class, with the same weapon types. (Reforged removes the class’s access to Anima Magic.) In exchange for losing out on the beloved Slayer skill the Bishop class is gifted with, Artur gains a bonus 15 critical as well as the Sol skill, which activates by using a staff once and then attacking.

In fact, there are a lot of skills added that would normally be a percentage chance to activate but here are activated by fulfilling conditions such as attacking a certain number of times. This is a really great design decision in my opinion, as it rewards the player for paying attention to the activation conditions of skills while also not pushing the player’s mental stack too far. It differentiates most of the hack’s classes quite a lot both from each other and their vanilla counterparts.

The skills added by the game also help a lot with the Lunatic difficulty, which is quite a bit tougher than vanilla’s Hard Mode. Lunatic mode is, in my experience, about on par with FE7’s Hector Hard Mode, while being much better designed. This leads to the difficulty being much more engaging gameplay wise than vanilla FE8 while not being so hard as to feel unfair. The only points where I think the game falters with regards to difficulty are the Fog of War maps, which in my opinion are the weakest segment of the game due to inherent issues with Fog of War maps.

Another area I think many people may find objectionable is the lack of weapon durability- easily the most stark difference from base Sacred Stones. I myself was very much on the fence about this at first but I actually came to like this decision quite a lot due its excellent implementation into the hack’s design. You see, because weapons are infinite use, weapons are allowed to be much more expensive than normal while also making certain weapons feel more fulfilling to find due to a noticeable scarcity of certain items, such as silver weapons. There are multiple limited time purchases that are only available to you for one map in addition to this, meaning the economy of this hack is consistently difficult to maintain and, in my opinion, incredibly engaging to play with.

Reforged really plays into this by offering you a selection of four weapons early on that are all unique and valuable in some way. I won’t spoil what these weapons are but they all will shape the way your playthrough progresses immensely, although I do feel the “Garish Axe” is a bit underpowered compared to the other options.

Overall, I would consider Reforged to be a fantastic hack that is worth playing, even for people who are not normally fans of reduxes or who might find some of the decisions potentially offputting. The way they are weaved into the hack’s design philosophy is incredibly masterful and a wonderful showcase of what hacking has to offer. Please give it a try- I promise you won’t regret it!

Grinding methods in general are reduced on Lunatic mode. The arena can only be used 5 times per chapter on Lunatic as well. This was done to preserve the integrity of it as a challenging mode that requires you to work within the constraints of limited experience gains.

Normal and Hard mode both allow you to use the tower freely as soon as it would unlock normally in vanilla

Thank you very much for the praise! I’m really glad you enjoyed the project and I hope you’ll keep an eye on it as I do more updates in the future!

Is the shaman guy missable if i dont pay for him after ch 5 or does he come back later? I was poor but returned after the route split and saw he was gone

So hard mode it is then, Thanks for the info! I was about to waste my time on lunatic, I like a challenge as much as the next guy but the old style FE kills my mood completely, I don’t even touch arenas since they are inefficient turn wasters.

He and Mina both leave after Ch.8 if you didn’t recruit them by that point
