[FE8] r/FEmblem: Thea Edition

First time making a FEU thread so I’ll try my best not to mess this up.

Hello everyone! I’m Thea, and I’m very proud to announce the public release of r/FEmblem! Here it is! (New Patch! You can see the guide for a bunch of cool stuff!) (New-new Patch! Revamped Ch. 5x!)

Now, if you aren’t active in the gba-era section of the r/FE discord server, you may be wondering, “What is FEmblem?”

Well to put it simply, it’s a version of FE8 where every playable character (yes, everyone!) is replaced with a member of the community, varying from people such as yours truly to veterans like KrashBoomBang.

Apart from the main premise, FEmblem includes:

  • Custom portraits for a bunch of cast members
  • A new, sinister final boss.
  • Super Lyon. No further elaboration.
  • Unique and relatively funny descriptions for everyone (Yes, even him)
  • New classes including but not limited to Kinshi Knight, Divine Dragon, and Staff Armor
  • Skills! Each character starts with a skill and learns at least one more via level up.
  • Plenty of classic hackrom QoL like viewable growths and danger zones.
  • Mari I mean Casual Mode! For those who just want to enjoy the chaos.
  • A bunch of new weapons, magic and otherwise. And there’s even a new staff!
  • Redesigned weapons, including classics like the Brave Short Bow, and Light Magic that isn’t complete crap.
  • Brand-new chapter names, with varying amounts of humor involved.
  • Stronger enemies! They aren’t jacked, but you’ll have to watch your back!
  • New animations for certain classes, such as Armor Knight and General.
  • A new Est-type character who joins shortly after route split ends.
  • Faster, stronger supports, and new support lists and affinities for each character.
  • A weirdly decent sense of balance!
  • As of writing this, exactly three (3) new maps!

Things FEmblem does not include (yet?)

  • Rewritten supports and/or story dialogue. Once the novelty of CaptainFishing/Fisting acting as Moulder wears off, I would suggest skipping past most if not all dialogue.
  • New maps. One day though! Once the burnout fades.
  • New music. (This one will come soon, just endure the Distant Roads for a bit, okay?)
  • Tier 3 Classes. However I will add them if the people want them.

My fingers are starting to cramp, so that’s all I’ll be saying for now! I sincerely hope you enjoy FEmblem, as I put quite a lot of effort into it!

Looks good! I may play this soon! As far as Tier 3 classes go, I feel that it would be an awesome addition in the future!

You duplicated some words there. Also, is krash the GOAT really in this hack? I might have to play this one.

I dont know what i did but im already softlocked in chapter one. The tutorial kicks in and has me use the Seth stand in but wont let me attack once i get into range

I just played like normal so i dont know what went wrong

This hack is just FE8 with new characters, it’s just simple, you know? I think i’ll wait until there’s a full story rewrite, I at the very least expected the prologue and the starting chapters to be rewritten or something like that… I think you should also rebalance hard mode, since it’s just plain easy with all the OP characters.

Playing a bit there’s at least some changed enemy spawns which include equipment they use and drop. Boss skills too. Plus at least one case of village event being changed so far.

Hard mode really picks up later due to increased enemy scaling, but I’ll see what I can do for early game.

What if you doubled the hard mode bonuses for the first few chapters?

I’ve adjusted the HMB a bit to hopefully have stronger enemies. Oh and Prologue is new

Chapter 1 has been revamped, a few text and name changes have been done, a bunch of bug fixes, and a complete spell/skill list is in the Guide. Have fun!

Finished with the original version after about 2 days on and off. Thanks for sharing! Some bugs and jank of which 99% was talked about over discord already but overall had a lot of fun.

Ironman, hard, blindish. No grinding in arena/skirmish/tower/ruins But yes shopping on worldmap. Eirika route.

Some things I liked and didn’t notice mention of in “features”:

  • “Gaiden magic”
  • Some cases of triple-split-promo
  • Combat staff! (Only 1 per save though?)
  • 10/10 final boss, prologue title makes more sense now.
  • Unlimited B rank supports
  • Extra mov in desert for armors!

Riev in ch21 felt a little overtuned. Would be more manageable if either less speed, only one tome instead of two or immobile.

Somes bugs that weren’t mentioned yet:

  • Ch19 boss, along with several units in 20, 21 claim to move, don’t
  • Ch20 boss along with dracozombies from ch21/22 can’t use the weapon they come with.

Final team

At 186 rounds of combat MezMint was most active but I’d consider my only slightly behind 181 RobotGuy and 154 Dudhhr MVPs

Ironman related:
  • Couldn’t recruit Marisa swap due to no event at time
  • “wasted” the rewards for secondary ch13 from bug. bought/sold items to spend the 5k, minimzaied xp by giving it to t2s, early map end at that, and didnt use the extra Seal
  • Ch14 was somehow my first unit loss. Fishing fell to an innacurate battle forecast vs boss
  • Ch15 Tort died to derp
  • Ch19 Lost Aigisuis to a derp. Was a 30% hit chance to die at that
  • Ch20 Sain died to Riev
  • Endgame2 lost Dudhhr from a miss-input.
Rambly thoughts on cast, without guide-spoilers.
  • Thea - Lord is lord. Useful buff skills and double supply units. Also Canto+ goes hard.

  • Red - has a less useful rally to me but again canto+, inspiration, supply.. and can use Dark. Finished off boss with Luna.

  • Mari - Early flying healer is fun! And upon promote got bugged early Warp so capped 20/20 first. Regardless, very nice utility in that white magic and anyway simply a fine unit. Bit frail if anything.

  • Devilclived - 3 range tomes, resolve, killing machine. enough said.

  • Robotguy - Self healing, good stats, unbrekaable 1-2 and an OP white magic. Fang even.. For now. rip.

  • Lucius - Summoner utility. Solid stats.

  • Sharktroid - Fun unit. Awful in combat and was too slow to steal Riev’s secondary but got most xp via stealing and also just useful for high mov/aid canto+ unit.

  • MezMint - Goes hard after first few levelups. Insane growths. Skills and bows are just cherry on top.

  • Krow - Normally great as a dancer but again rip bugged run. As assassin honestly solid in combat. Only stat lacking really was luk.

  • Sagittae - Crit machine. More offensive than defensive.

  • Cooltoaster - Slept on him for too long. Awesome def/str and other stats simply fine.

  • Deviation - Late join, very good unit. Canto+, re-mov, repostion, assist white magic, actual stats other than res.

  • Catball. Used for repostion mostly, rip other skills meant to have

  • Scaram - More summoner! Not a fan of Black Magic and has pathetic hp but hard to go wrong with summon, and.. Well, sleep white magic is niche given the 1 turn duration.

  • Estofo - Misread as Astolfo multiple times. Seems.. ok? Fortify whtie magic cool

  • E - Lateish fillier unit

  • Chere - Wish he was faster. Overall unimpressed but idk what he’ll learn down the line.

  • Larss - Unimpressed but again idk what future held.

  • Tassie - even with bugged no promote decent. white magic physic long with good stats, canto, aid, move. lack of combat was the issue.

  • Krash - Mercy saw use first few maps to set up kills. .and then fell off hard.

  • Poke - Kinda eh stats but got spoiled on a later skill that would make up for it. Didn’t use.

  • Neo - Not a fan. Too squishy.

  • Mai - solid filler

  • Freelia - too slow for my taste. If they had def at least…

  • Pige - simply seems ok?

  • Gamba - meh. Speed is an issue.

  • Weso - useable but 4 mov holds him back

  • PRoman - funny unit. Never used.

  • Not-Marisa looked nice, I like axefaith. Swordfaith unit with +atk when?

  • Fishing has a really funny skill but overall simply seemed ok. Still, hard to go wrong with some def/spd/str/flying

  • Tort was slow. Mov and speed alike. That being said galeforce goes hard.

  • Aigisuis - Growth unit. Gets a lance and mount on promo! (Well, best option imo). Terrible hp but at least had fair def/res.

  • Sain - Most solid of prepromotes imo. Bases, growths and kill all solid.

You had mentioned wanting ideas what to work on next and would suggest considering custom ending slides.

New Endgame PRFs for the lords + Early/Endgame text changes.
Revamped 5x and some small balance changes.
Probably other things I can’t remember as well. Have fun!
