Eclipse works by computing what half of the target’s HP is at the start of combat. It doesn’t change this to reflect any changes in the target’s HP during combat, since normally it can’t counterattack or hit twice. If it could counterattack, then the enemy could’ve lost HP from a Devil backfire. If it could hit more than once, then the first hit could have damaged the target. If you, however, give Eclipse the Brave effect, then what happens is that Eclipse will deal the same amount of damage with each strike, but since Eclipse has its damage set to be at least half of the target’s HP at the start of combat, the result is that the target will die if both hits connect.
As a result, Rin can kill absolutely anything in the game as long she has a 2+ use Eclipse available due to having Double Lion (makes Eclipse hit twice) and Hawkeye (makes Eclipse always hit). She is, however, hampered by her atrocious starting stats (mainly so she can’t put her skills to use by abusing Nosferatu which is now always accurate and brave) and the fact that without grinding Floor 6 of Valni, there are only enough Eclipse tomes around for her to do this 6 times in total.
