Humanity is in a never-ending battle against extinction. From the dawn of time, our ancestors suffered under the boot of the Blade Brothers, a destructive army of fiends from another dimension, to whom we were slaves and cattle. Finding no hope on the surface, our ancestors turned to the celestial. There, they found power. Ten heroes of yore created ten domains of magic. With it by our side, humanity overthrew the Blade Brothers and sealed the Gate of Realms which connects our realm and theirs.
Yet the war is not over. Shadows of the Blade Brothers bleed through the Gate, forming an endless army whose sole goal is the extinction of humanity. Our only line of defense against them are the Rangers, magical knights who have sworn their lives to exterminate the invaders and keep the rest of humanity safe. They train in the Great Academy of Antikythera to wield their magic domains for everyone’s sake.
Yet not all domains are created equal. Some domains, like Venus or Mars, are powerful and their lineages have become the world’s nobility. Others are seen as weak or near useless.
Follow Jadwiga, a peasant girl born into the weakest domain - the Moon - as she fights to become the first Lunar Ranger in history and confronts a plot against all of humanity.
Hello! My name is Augenis, and this is the thread for New Moon, my first romhack in an original setting! It is also built on the fresh Modern c-skillsystem.
Those of you who are familiar with my work from Life of Seiros, you may find this romhack to differ from it like night and day, and not just because of the original setting. LoS differed little from standard FE8 mechanics, its gameplay was extremely vanilla, and I wanted to get far, far away from this baseline with my second hack.
Story and setting wise, prepare to experience an unabashedly Shonen storyline, the hints of which you have probably noticed already. Don’t worry, it’s not going to be all saccharine nor entirely tropey - however, I hope for it to be a good time!
Features
What if all of your units used Gaiden magic?
This was the original conceit of the hack, which has since evolved into a direction very different from traditional Fire Emblem gameplay. None of your units use weapons - instead, they all belong to one of ten Domains, the replacement for standard FE8 weapon ranks, and learn up to four spells, some of which may be familiar to you, some may not.
HP in New Moon is reflavored as Aura, celestial energy drawn from the environment and from the stars which allows humans to cast spells. It is also lost from damage dealt to one’s physical body. This creates an environment where your health bar also functions as a stamina bar and it always drains, requiring you to constantly keep it healthy.
To do so, almost every unit has access to a shared skill, “Restore Aura”, which spends their entire turn recovering their HP/Aura to full.

With enemy units who hit hard, and maps which encourage you to move constantly with turn requirements, this, ideally, should require you to always be on the move, count your Aura points and strategize.
In lieu of weapons, you will have the opportunity to customize your units with Equipment. Each unit may have one piece of Equipment equipped which gives them certain buffs or even unlocks new abilities. Some are perishable, some are permanent, all are useful.
Units are further differentiated by each of them having a personal Skill. These skills are generally high-impact and are intended to play into each of the units’ gameplay gimmicks.
And what would a spectacular battle to save the world be without special techniques? You may enhance your units’ attacks with Combat Arts - draw upon the celestial aura and unleash raw power upon your foes! Combat Arts may be gained through various means - equipment which bestows you with an art or studies in the Academy, and all characters will learn domain-unique Combat Arts upon promotion! All Combat Arts are uniquely designed for the hack, and many have various special effects!

At the moment, the demo has six playable chapters and one interlude chapter, with 13 playable characters total.
Known issues
c-skillsystem is a fairly unstable system, so keep this in mind in case any strangeness pops up (though feel free to report anything). A reoccurring issue is the game occasionally hanging on the Restore Aura healing animation. This issue is not replicable and I’ve not yet been able to pin down what causes it.
If it happens, and in general if anything breaks, reset and choose Resume Chapter. It will place you back in the beginning of your turn, and in my testing this has always fixed any incidents of Restore Aura animations hanging.
