[FE8] Life of Seiros [COMPLETE]

So isk if this is a docummented bug or not but I just finished Verse 15 by routing all the enemies and The ending cutscene played twice. It didnt softlock me or anything but i just figured it wasnt intended?

On a more pressing issue however…i cant seem to be able to recruit the verse XVI green units? It says that gerth can talk to them but the prompt nevcer comes up

This is documented, as long as it did not softlock you it’s not a big deal right now, but it will be fixed.

Gerth can only talk to them after they are already recruited. You can recruit them with Rhea.

Ah since it only said i could talk to the boss with her i thought i couldnt never mind

Just finished the hack was very fun story was great. My only complains are the shoddy hit rates causing me to reset due to no fault of my own, the automamton spam in the Epimenides chapters since they give single digit exp and that the prepromotes and some lategame units have awful growths and mediocre bases that make them really hard to use if you dont get luck on the level ups (Looking at you indech with 2 base luck and 10% growth with a luck% skill).

Other than that the only thing i have to say is Maurice is…way too easy of a final boss (Nemesis kinda too but i get why on his case), my Wilhelm wasn’t close to capping strenght and laubranda perfectly two rounded him. Top that with the fact that he is very succeptible to Myson’s Bohr and if i managed to beat him in one turn im sure i wont be the only one Anyways, here is my tierlist based on my experience on hard mode.

Thank you very much for playing! Glad you enjoyed the story and had fun with the hack!

There is a bit of story/gameplay interaction with Maurice being a bit weaker than one might expect - in the last chapter, he is wasting away from his pessimism and defeatism and his stats aren’t any larger than that of his first appearance in Verse XIV. He should still hit most units fairly hard and him being a moving boss can mess some people up depending on their position when he leaves his chambers. Gameplay wise, I am not a huge fan of overpowered boss units since it can suck a bit to go through a chapter and then be basically softlocked on an overpowered boss, so I avoided making boss characters too overpowered.

personally i think this is a pretty intentional balance design because re-move (aka the crest of indech) is busted as fuck (self-dance is never balanced lmao). it does make using indech annoying but you do at least get the hoplon guard on the same chapter as you get him

as for the unit himself he basically has near-exclusive access to the funny 50-use brave bow he joins with for a very long while, i think he can afford to not be too overpowered

I would say that but besides using him in chapter 8 to get the energy ring (where he ironically popped his crest twice) his bases are too low on hard mode to be good in the long run.

Also one thing i forgot to mention, the random stat enemies affecting threshold is not fun. I can go from one rounding a unit to not doubling or leaving then on one hp after having to reset because they got more bulk or higher speed through no fault of my own

Id say for Maurice that chapter is meant to be a rug pull on purpose. You finally got to him but at that point youre not exactly the “good guys” anymore and its supposed to be a slaughter you feel bad about. Thats why half the units are just palace staff who can barely fight, it definitely strikes the right narrative nerve in my opinion.

Hey, I really liked this hack so I decided to make an account to share my experience/some feedback about it. I’m gonna divide it by sections to make it more legible instead of just posting a big wall of text.

Thoughts on my Squad and their crests

I saw that you were gathering info on how people distributed their crests so here I’m just gonna put it at the top here.

Crest of Cichol went to Ludovica
Crest of Cethleann went to Erich

Crest of Macuil went to Sieghart

Crest of Indech went to Fabre (multiple dances go brr)

Now here’s more of an indepth look into the team (fabre is not screenshotted cause his stats do not matter)

Rhea- Mixed Bulk Archbishop

Rhea was somehow my highest defence unit without even spending a dracoshield on her, so that combined with her prf giving 5 res and not having any weakness to effective weapons made her incredibly easy to just put on the front lines and not really sweat anything. She wasn’t great at actually 1 rounding things but she could usually chunk a bunch of enemies and let the others handle the cleanup. She had an A support with Wilhelm which was incredibly helpful, especially early on to patch axe hit rates.

Wilhelm- Putting the Lord in Wyvern Lord

To contrast Rhea’s defense blessing, Wilhelm decided to get res blessed off his 25% growth lol. He was kind of mid at first, especially due to hit issues, but once he got his promo online he just became a monstrous delete button. He didn’t appreciate all the bows, especially since I gave the fili shield to someone else. He got the boots.

Ludovica- What if Wilhelm but faster and 1 more movement naturally

Ludovica was completely allergic to bad level ups and ended up basically just as good if not better than Wilhelm despite promoting 4 levels earlier and not having a busted personal. She was just my solution to basically any problem and killed Maurice and Nemesis (lore accurate events). MY GOAT

Sieghart- Deploy the Tactical Nuke 12 year old

I love all the little boy mage characters, so it was a no brainer to train Sieghart. He also has the benefit of being actually good unlike a lot of mainline iterations of this concept. Made great use of the movement ring and an A support with Cethleann greatly enhanced his survivability. Also it was a very cute support. Strength blessed despite having no use for the stat

Cethleann- Little Menace

Cethleann dares to ask what if your staffbot had great combat, was hard to hit and could get out of being stafflocked as soon as chapter 5. Also it was nice to have a unit with an immense luck stat in a hack where base 10 luck would count as unusually high.

Erich- The Christmas Cav that made it

Erich just seems better than Paul in pretty much every way? His bulk focus just feels better than Paul’s speed focus, considering that speed is easier to fix and doubling thresholds are generous. Brave weapons and the cortana let him double anything and it’s not like his 40% speed growth is pathetic like Paul’s dire 15% defense growth. I still used both of them for a good chunk of the game, it just made it easy to decide who to bench in the second half.

Johanna-Old Reliable

Gauntlets are an inherently powerful weapon type and Johanna as a monopoly on them for 75% of the game (and Saoirse was 6 points behind her in Str when she joined). She was particularly good at dealing with mages and hand cannon guys late who could be tricky for all the other units. Deceptively bulky thanks to her massive HP. Also Smite is good.

Mycen- Why does your mom let you have all the cool spells?

Mycen has exclusive access to Luna, Dark Spikes and the two best siege tomes in the game. Even with his mid stats, he was incredibly good and irreplaceable on the squad.

Avreliya&Lex- Magic Swords are busted.

Not much to add to that.

Macuil- Living Legend

Maybe more Saleh than Pent, but still good out of the box until Endgame

Feedback on the story/gameplay (spoilers here)

Regarding the story:
I really have nothing but praise about the writing here. Rhea is a very compelling anti-hero and the way that the campaign devolves from righteous crusade into murky territory as the game progresses is extremely well done. By the end we are literally running a blood drinking cult, murdering people waving the white flag and scheming to take over the country. I especially like how this is reflected in some character arcs like Erich and Ludovica who descend terrifyingly into zealotry or Cichol who starts as a voice of opposition to Rhea before deciding he can moderate her path and ending up just being an accomplice to her ambitions anyway.
If I had a minor quibble here, is that I wish the other Elites were a little more involved in the plot. They should also definitely have unique death quotes in epilogue.

Regarding Gameplay:

-I think the chapter where you recruit Indech needs to be tweaked. It’s already a frustrating thing when you need a green unit that starts far away from you to survive and it’s even worse when that unit has 2 luck and underwhelming bulk. Many resets were had here to just him getting 2% crit by the peg knights that harass him and dying. The fact this chapter comes so early could end up turning someone off the hack, which I think would be a real shame. An elegant solution could be to have him start with the hoplon guard you get in this map in his inventory and change the village reward to something else. Alternatively, you could also make the green units near him slightly more competent so they distract the enemies for longer.
-Speaking of Indech, he needs better stats in the Epilogue. I think he’s fine as early to midgame filler as he is in the hack proper, but he can barely tickle anything in Epilogue and feels like dead weight there
-Also speaking of peg knights, the peg knight enemies should have their cons buffed. They are beyond pathetic as is getting doubled by everyone and their grandmother and not even hitting that hard
-I have read in this forum that there are secret shops in this hack, but I did not run into any or a Member card through the whole game. Maybe there could be a bit more of a hint towards which chapters have them?

-Pretty much all of Emerie squad beyond maybe Salvatore should get buffs.

Carlotta joins staff locked and underlevelled at a point at which you will have been using Flayn for a long time who will woefully outclass her by this point. She can’t even pretend to be the best secondary healer for long as Macuil joins like two chapters later and people will start promoting not too long after including Rhea who also gets staves. Maybe she should start ready to promote so you could at least instantly get a bishop out of her instead of needing to give her 3 staff Exp levels?
Emerie and Ines are also tough sells to train. Ines joins much later than the other armor knight with arguably worse bases and I don’t even think he is that good. At least the weak peg knights in her join chapter make it easyish to get some experience, but it would be nice for her to at least start with an axe (preferably a hand axe) to make that easier. Emerie seems like a cool character but underlevelled Merc with 9 base speed and 35% growth is just a very tough sell imo and it’s not like she has stellar bulk or something to make up for it. Cortana is very good, but you can just take it away from her and there are several other units who make better use of it. I think buffing her growths would go a long way here since she at least seems like a cool character. Lancereaver would also be a nice starting item for her.

-Minor bug report: The Enemy AI tried several times to silence purely physical units when they were in their range. Funny but almost certainly not intended.

This feedback regarding gameplay was all areas for improvement, but I still had a really good time playing the hack, so I think there’s already a very strong base here

No Photos of the Squad below

I’m very much looking forward to further updates so I can have an excuse to play this again  . Also will keep an eye out for further projects from you. Sorry for the weird formatting, the forum was really not liking me trying to upload screenshots and I couldn’t figure out how to unscrew the formatting

Thank you very much for the kind words, as well as for your feedback, some good insights!

As for your question regarding the secret shop - there is one in Verse XIV. To receive a hint about it, and to be able to access it in the first place, Ernest needs to be alive (and iirc deployed?)

Any idea when the supports will be done?

Thanks for answering  . One more stray thought, I think you should lower the threshold for the supports of late-joiners. I had Mycen and his support partner stand around forever next to each other and only got them to C Support before the game ended. I saw none of Fabre’s supports despite having him deployed from his join chapter into the epilogue. It’s not the biggest deal right now, because none of them have completed support chains as of yet, but standing around for 10 Million turns for supports is noone’s favorite part of GBA emblem.

Question

Is there a unit besides Ernest that can pick without gambling the desert items?

Only Ernest can.

Ok. So my struggle wasn’t because I was dumb.

I don’t known if this happened to anyone else but chapter 15 ended after routing the enemy and then played the scenes twice.

Oh yeah its a common reported bug, funny enough it got me more gold because when it happened to me it let me Preach to the village again.

I’ve had a great time playing this game so far! I just wanted to ask, do you have documentation for the romhack, like a list of characters and recruitment conditions, or a class promotion chart, etc?

Thanks again for all your work on this!
