[FE8] HoloEmblem: The Search for Seiso (42 Chapters) [v.1.8.2]

after 39 attempts, finally completed an ironman of this game because i have zero clue how i’m not tired of it yet. (also unironically marks the first time i actually ironmanned anything lmao)

took a while to figure out how to get through earlygame safely but after about 20 attempts i finally got the hang of it. this was the fifth attempt (out of 39) that made it to chapter 10 and the third one that got past it, with my old PB being dying on chapter 18 (IRyS map) at attempt 36.

unfortunately it wasn’t deathless because my dumb ass decided imitating real life was funny. the good news is the deaths happened pretty much on the penultimate chapter so eh, no harm done. other blooper moments include accidentally exposing Anya to a potential aether proc death in identity gaiden which would have unironically been a wipe, and Suisei dodging a fatal double attack at 40+ hit on literally the following map.

oops

yes Kanata is going to graduate irl next week. oops

some personal thoughts/notes on this:

Long
  • blossom Laplus is unironically the best unit in the game in ironman context. i’ve said that blossom breaks just about any unit, but Laplus has traits that makes her stand out among other candidates: she starts in a class with T2 caps, meaning you dont need to spend a holo emblem on her, she has the best growths in the game (her raw growths without aptitude are like 20 higher in every stat versus Matsuri with aptitude), she gets corona at level 30 which allows her to completely ignore resistance, and chapter 10 is actually perfect for training her because the inner room is full of enemies that are aggressive and will move towards you but only has 1 range so you can funnel them into a 1 tile wide chokepoint in the right corner of the map, use Polka to choke the point, and have Laplus basically potshot them all from behind until she kills everything. It’s also trivial to keep Polka alive at this point given only the shaver mages actually do anything threatening, you have Lamy Water or Rally Resistance from Luna to keep Polka alive, and you get two units with drive defense/resistance in literally the previous chapter which means Polka has like over 20 in both defenses while not yet accounting for the possibility of implementing Fauna to further reduce damage. The tl;dr is you can get Laplus to like level 15+ by the end of chapter 10 very trivially at which point she basically has the best stats in your entire army and steamrolls the game as soon as she returns in chapter 12.

  • Rally spectrum Fauna from her event in chapter 21 makes her an insanely powerful rallybot that got deployed for pretty much the rest of the game just because she has that and canto+ in ranger. this is to the point where I’m unironically considering if I could’ve used her on 0 growths lol.

  • Early promo Suisei and Akirose is still the play just like 0 growths, but instead of the third promo going to Noel it instead goes to Miko, mostly so that you get to use Physic and status staves asap. This is also a route that I have theory’d for a revised 0%, but I’m currently not in the mood to touch 0% for this again. Noel actually is a lot less important when you dont need a unit with her level of bulk that badly now, since Choco and 10/1 Aki with a robe basically suffices.

  • As a personal challenge I banned the usage of dancer Baelz because bardtraining unironically kills the game’s difficulty. It may have been useful to make sure I dont go insane on 0 growths but with growths it’s overkill. The upside is I get to try Bishop Baelz instead (which I have never actually done) and this thing is silly lol, at 20/5 her skill setup gives her 100 base crit just by existing and when combined with slayer she was one of the MVPs through monster arc

  • Choco can easily grind lance wexp on the ch8 brigand because she gets terrain bonuses despite being a flying unit, making it so the brigand has single digit hit on her in the mountain despite having wta. she also has terrible hit against the brigand, which is actually good here because it means with steel lance she can basically attack the brigand ad infinitum. I ended up with silver lance choco by chapter 10 as a result. Strictly speaking this isnt really necessary because choco has lifetaker so she doesnt mind eating damage from orkoing enemies instead of ohkoing but it is quite funny. (spear access is good to have though)

  • I think Matsuri is ass. That said I have used her and she is surprisingly okay to train, but if she doesnt get level 10 on her join map its basically doomed for her. If she does then she can go cavalier for the pirate map which lets her farm exp easily with elite sword and her luck growth is high enough that she can unironically use the devil axe as a regular weapon in great knight which lets her farm axe WEXP. As a fun fact she has cap breaking WEXP for lances in cavalier since she already starts with C lances in recruit, and she keeps this wexp as long as she doesnt use lances in combat. If she can keep the exp theoretically she promotes to innate A lance access in t2. Lategame matsuri was useful as one of the few things with high enough speed to do anything, but it also requires her to go Great Knight to get the stat boosts and somehow get her to level 10 for her free promotion to Master Knight. How easy one thinks this investment can be is up to personal discretion, but lets just say elite sword goes a long way. I guess one good part about using her is she is built for ‘mini’ thighforce setups with Marine and Ame which lets her farm EXP easier when she can reap the damage bonuses from being adjacent to them and then get refreshed automatically.

  • Entrap is still funny and broken.

  • Use nihil. unironically top 5 skill in the game, probably top 3 even. lots of bullshit skill combos you just completely ignore just by having access to this

This is the only hack I’ve completed 3 full runs of and this post just got me fired up for a 4th.

Never gone Ironman or 0% and I doubt I ever will! You’re on one @Shiina !

Been loving this hack so far, but man is it brutal (stuck on chapter 10, one side gets overwhelmed by the sheer volume of enemies).

Definitely a skill issue on my part so I’ll keep on trying.

I am so sorry for chapter 10, its easily the worst map in the game

Glad to hear you’re enjoying the game though!

Happy 1st Anniversary Everyone!

Seeing the jump from when I first released S4S to now has felt like a big lifetime. The journey has truly been so, so wonderful.

So where is progess now?

Progress has been (so far) focused on rewriting and setting up the initial 10 maps I had set up before I decided to rewrite the whole story. So far, getting everybody as many portraits as possible will be a neccessary step in this new story arc.

Which also means I get the chance to update some of our lovable idols and NPCs.

Given the new rewrites, I thought I’d be nice to talk more about my previous story plans for the rewrite altogether.

The original idea for the S4S rewrite was to have the almost same story structure as the original S4S. Amelia and Co. end up fighting Nousagi at Shike Village, get pushed East and they fight in the Castle.

But what if Amelia and company were never able to reach the Candy Regency?

It was established early on in the story that Pekoland had its hands in all the Continent. Knowing how fast and effective they were, the chances of them actually reaching Luna’s would have been a net 0. Therefore, an escape chapter with overwhelming enemies, much akin to 3x of normal S4S was the ideal play in my opinion. Having your starting group get ambushed and forced to push through mountains I thought would have been a great contrast to 3x. In this version, 3x would have never existed, and you recruit Polka, Watame and Nene later on in the story.
If you’ve seen this year’s fee3 video, you would have seen Noel and Flare join instead, along with Miko’s new prf, the again staff. Of course, there would have been a cutscene where Amelia eventually gets captured and the group gets split off; Back to different factions trying to survive. I wanted to emphasize the scale of Pekoland’s invasion, and much with the Godberdiers in OG S4S, I wanted to introduce almost impossible enemies as turtle checks.

You would have recruited Miko/Suisei in one arc, the Council in another, and Noel/Flare in the defend chapter.

This would have been the introduction to earlygame units post chapter 5.
Roboco, Botan, Risu, Zeta, Rushia, Sora and Azki. This would have been around the Shinju area.
It would have played much like Thracia’s chapter 4, where Brighton and Macha have to protect Lara. However, Zeta would function like a Jeigen 2.0 with Reine’s absence and RBC/Risu are pin cushions.

Another spiritual successor to an older S4S map. This one is meant to emulate the Lui/Laplus join map, where they are trapped in the center of the map. Start NorthWest Corner, and escape through SouthEast stairs. Lamy would have been recruited here and learning about the stopwatch and what Pekoland’s ambitions were. I considered having Pekora be in one of the prison cells in the center, and make it a plot point to come back stronger/repelling the invasion.

Thracia’s escape map where Ced comes out and STRIKES down the enemy. However, this would have played much akin to Bell of Byelen’s Chapter 3(?) going down a hallway to avoid large amount of strong enemies chasing you.

Another escape map, however you split off into two groups and tried to rescue civilians that are getting attacked by Pekoland. A timed map where Pekoland would have started to send capped units towards you (wyverns with brave effect)

A rather scarce map type as a defend map; Your units are slowly getting overwhelmed by consistent Pekolandian attacks, and unsure if you can find some solace at the Candy Kingdom. You’re aided by some resistance remnant, but they don’t have enough supplies to fully support you. Therefore, you must endure another siege meant at attempting to break you. Shion/Aqua would have joined as prepromotes.

Of course, my favorite next.

This would have taken over chapter 4’s defend map as a much more, Tahra-like map. All the Candy Kingdom units join you immedietely, and you must deal with Calvary charges, a few ballista, and an abort staff that you had to figure out how to take out without losing one of your own so easily. This map will probably be used in the actual, but will most likely face a few more tweaks before I FINISH up what needs to be done.

I wish I was able to do something more, but time is the slow killer. Thank you everyone so much for your continued support.

Despite the setbacks, I still am.

And the Search for Seiso continues!

I was able to beat Holoemblem: The Search for Seiso earlier this month and it was wonderful!

Since you are to an extent redoing everything there is not much from my experience that I can add to improve for the most part.

I will say that I would be happy if you were consider adding a fatigueless mode, in which as the name would suggest you wont have to worry about your units getting faituged. I am saying this becuase I am the kind of I guess person who likes to use their favorite hololive members as much as possible, so it would kinda suck for me and other like me I guess to have to like plan out how to optimize the maximum times they can used their prefer members.

Though of course, I understand why you are trying this fatigue system, I would just appreciate if you could consider adding a fatigueless mode.

But, yeah, thank you for making this wonderful mod and I hope you have a good day.

I will be releasing a fatigueless mode, don’t worry!

Thank you so much for playing man. I hope I can add on to the experience in the rework!

Oh thank god, I still haven’t even played FE5 yet so I only want to deal with that system there.

I started over my initial run of this rom cause I didn’t realize how important supports were (didn’t read that the first time over) and now I think I have a better shot at clearing chapter 10.

Also, just some thoughts on the difficulty so far (most of my experience with fire emblem is with fe 7 and 8 so take my opinions with a grain of salt as a newbie), but the difficulty curve is pretty good aside from chapter 5, though it does smooth over on a second playthrough.

Also I am really conflicted whether I should promote Mumei into a rogue or assassin, her str and skill are pretty good so far, but I would like some feedback cause again I am not very experienced with this rom or fe as a whole.

Really enjoying how this rom is playing out, I am interested in seeing how the definitive edition goes.

Yea difficulty spikes pretty badly later on.

Personally with Mumei if you chose her PRF I’d go with assassin, but most of the time I like going rogue for the extra utility Mumei brings when she promotes too.

I’ve managed to reach chapter 17 after some playing. While the high difficulty isn’t exactly my cup of tea it’s enjoyable to play nonetheless.

The biggest issue I am having is running out of space in Polka’s storage. Admittedly this is mostly due to me hoarding javelins, stat boosters, and other weapons.

Also is there a guide document or something around here? I’m worried I may have missed some stuff (especially when I couldn’t get my hands on the member card in chapter 11)

There’s a guide in the download folder!

As of the ass end of chapter 9, I managed to promote Flare to a sniper. I’ve heard that chapter 10 is notoriously horrendous to play. Should I just pop the general promotion right away or wait for now?

Honestly yea, go for it

So, I finally managed to beat chapter 10 after 3 attempts, by undeploying the whole right side and using a few overcentralizing strong units, I managed to muscle my way through the chap. It was quite a mean chapter though…..

Also, is Laplus supposed to become unavailable during chapter 11? I put a lot of effort into feeding her

yes laplus isnt deployable due to plot in ch 11. she returns afterwards though
