I’m on the final chapter now. This was a really, really enjoyable hack overall. The writing was cohesive and well done, the maps were generally well designed, and the plot kept me going throughout the entire story. I’ll write some specific thoughts that stood out to me while playing.
-
I played on Hard mode, and it was hard. I would say this difficulty is more similar to Maddening on other games. The midgame was probably the most difficult part, with the endgame (chapter 30+) maps being a little more lenient relative to the my army’s strength.
-
I liked how weapons had unlimited durability and gold was scarce for the majority of the game. This experience felt like FE4 where units had “personal” weapons.
-
Speaking of FE4, the leveling system also felt like FE4. Units could go past level 20, and promotions gave relatively small bonuses, so it was fine to promote units whenever.
-
The party split was implemented really well, and essentially allowed this hack to be two games in one, which I enjoyed.
-
I was shocked when half my party (Millia’s party in my case) was killed. I thought something may happen when the game asked which party to send to the castle first and hinted at it being important, but there was no indication which party would be killed off.
-
Characters had distinct voices, and given the huge cast, I think this is quite an accomplishment. The ones that stood out the most to me are Joman, Raider, Varris, Sienna, and Lucky. Shindo was also a particularly enjoyable antagonist.
-
With the way the game is designed, as well as the difficulty, I used literally all my units. There was no room to bench anyone. Some units were kind of terrible, but most were serviceable and could contribute.
- Worst units were Zara, Dania, and Gallae. Best units that could carry portions of maps by themselves were Merri (absolutely ridiculous, see below) on Esdin’s side and Scord on Millia’s side.
Final party with thoughts on each unit:
Summary
Ike Esdin was a fairly mediocre unit for most of the game until he hit tier 3. He’s pretty squishy, but his Prf spear is good against a variety of enemies, and he could reliably double most of the time.
Decent tank, saw limited action.
Dancer.
Titania Xena was a very poor combat unit due to being weak, extremely squishy, and not even all that fast. She had some use as a healer and rallyer but had to stay behind front lines.
Rei had some moments where he shined with Sfisgard, but generally was relegated to chip damage and had to stay behind front lines due to his extreme squishiness.
F-U-N-N-Y character but his stats were not good and he was strictly a healer. Wilder of Dyrenox and Excalibur only because I have no other S-rank anima users.
A little more useful than Niall, but filled the same niche in general. Wielder of Pathunger.
One of my worst units. Despite the game hyping her up as a quick improver with great potential, her terrible stats meant she could almost never see significant combat and could not take significant advantage of having Paragon. Even at lvl 7 as a tier 3 unit, her stats are barely better than some units were at tier 1.
Very useful with the re-move skill and magic bow. I gave her the Double Lion skill scroll. Unfortunately being a Summoner was quite a bit less useful than I anticipated due to the phantoms’ low move. I gave her all the Goddess Icons to try to maximize the re-move skill chance.
REALLY ENJOYABLE PERSONALITY! Too squishy to be much of a combat unit other than mop up duty though.
What a great unit. The Strong Bow was perfect for her, giving her a whopping 66 base attack with capped Str. She’s also extremely tanky, which made her an excellent front line unit to draw out enemy ranged units.
Cool character, although I thought it was a bit weird that his obsession with the Devil and the fact that he is literally in a party with the Devil herself didn’t really go anywhere.
Very funny character. I loved his speech quirk and weird personality. Anselle’s reaction to him joining reminded me of Ike’s reaction to Oliver joining his army in FE10.
Typical swordmaster archetype and wielder of Innunga.
Solid combat unit overall and wielder of Xangare.
He was quite useful in earlygame and middlegame due to his bulk, but he became almost entirely useless as a combat unit in endgame due to his appallingly low skill resulting in bad hit rates. He did provide some support just by existing with Daunt and Battle Axe.
Really good healer due to Powerstaff. Eventually became an alright combat unit, although I generally kept her as a staffbot to level her up.
Pretty good combat unit and wielder of Rigera. His interactions when defecting from Shindo’s group were really funny.
Pure healer and Warp user.
Thanks for sharing this hack with us! You did an excellent job and I had a lot of fun.
