Dawn Never Comes

Is a WIP hack featuring a cast of mostly monsters tryin to achieve peace or maybe solace?
Right now the hack has a prologue and 2 chapters written, while the 3rd is gameplay only.

Features:

  • Adjustments to vanilla classes (some buffs/nerfs)
  • Tweaks to vanilla weapon stats, such as lighter steels, slims giving spd, etc
  • Magic primarily being 2 range locked (with some exceptions)
  • Reworked Claws and Fangs to give them more interesting effects
  • Status last only 1 turn but have higher hit
  • Siege weapons adjusted to have lower range
  • Unique weapon effects via skills
  • DS avoid formula
  • Slightly buffed triangle +/- 20 hit 2 dmg
  • Terrain giving more defense but less dodge

Intended difficulty is → Hard

Features:

-Some Vanilla classes are tweaked, mostly buffs but some nerfs (i.e lower spd on cavs, higher HP on knights, higher everything on pegs)

-Most Vanilla weapon numbers are changed, i.e lighter steel weapons, slims giving +spd, increased hit on eclipse, etc

-Magic is primarily 2 ranged locked, with new tomes to mitigate this weakness

-Some weapons as well as Javs and hand axes can’t double

-Poison weapons have poison strike instead of poison as a status

-Vanilla weapons with low crit (5-20) have their crit removed i.e light magic, slim crits, etc

-Several skill numbers tweaked.

-Monster weapons are given more niche: Claws are low might brave weapons, Fangs have chip/add damage effects.

-physics are fixed to 3-10 range

-Status only last 1 enemy turn, however status staves have hugely higher hit

-Siege weapons have fixed 2-6 range (+1 with tome range/bow range+).
-Purge deals fixed damage
-Eclipse have higher hit
-Bolting has high might

-Ballistas have low might but deal x4 effective damage to fliers

-Combat is player phase focused with an emphasis on harnessing specific requirements to make weapons more powerful (i.e a claw with low might but gains +1 might for every square moved, Fangs with savage blow, Blades that gain +5 damage on attack, etc) and positioning (i.e aura heal, spur skills, etc)

-Map is played as a dual defense/offense map.

-Most skills are attached to weapons to give them unique effects

-Each human weapon type has 1-2 new weapons with interesting effects

-Each playable unit has 1-2 skills that support their niche

-The avoid formula used is the DS one with spd + lck instead of spd*2 + lck

-Custom monster anims made by me and several other talented individuals.

-Forests give only 10 avoid but 2 def

New Patch 1.1 is out. I changed around some skills, stats and placement to help out in phase 2. I also added reinforcements to help buffer the map more so it isn’t as empty. The biggest change is the addition of a repositioning event before phase 2 because a bad position is near impossible to get out of in phase 2.

Current Thread is outdated, I’m doing 2 prequel chapters before this map, though chapter 2 isn’t done yet

Happy to say I finished the writing for chapter 3 today. There might still be some jank but overall I think the majority of Typos are taken care of, I’ve updated the ups patch in the download folder.

Posted a new update, So I started work on chap 4 but along the way started testing new mechanics for the existing chapters. Anyways, patch 1.8.1

Changes:

  • Removed the Aeon’s Rift skill from most of the protags, The rift is now accessed via the rift mirror item, it can be traded around and will always be returned to the convoy at the end of the chapter, so you can die with it but still get it back on the next chapter
  • Updated guide of the rift according to changes
  • Lowered durability of staves and some healing items. The idea is to make players think twice before using resources
  • Some starting items have been removed from the inventory of the cast as a way to push this design

Balance Changes:

  • Slight 1-2 points adjustments to stats, like fadhlan getting +1 spd to account for 1-2 range weapons lowering spd by 4
  • Voulge skill is now spur spd as a way to make his whole scouting attack positioning support gig more prominent, and to counteract the spd penalties in chapter one. Not on Voulge, I’ve been having trouble deciding what to do with “brace” as it’s kinda not very relevant for his playstyle, so any ideas would be interesting
  • Hretha gets renewal instead of desperation, because apparently making an offensive healer when she’s the only healer of the map wasn’t a very good idea. Also she gets 6 move now to make it easier to get to the other side.
  • The Soothe ring now starts in Giselle’s inventory for chapter 1, because trading it lowkey was a hassle so I decided to just allow you to assign where you want it.
  • Risha’s gotten a pretty big HP nerf, and her original frenzy skill is given back. Silent pride didn’t fit tbh, so now she starts with 32 HP
  • Fadhlan Junior gets drives instead of spurs because it’s apparently very frustrating to pilot several units that can only attack at 1 range and 2 range into position for the boosts

Map Changes:

  • Some minor adjustment on prologue, mainly allowing Farzan to actually use his sword. His sword lowkey sucks before this
  • Huge changes to chapter 1. Now chapter 1 is probably infamous, if you can call something infamous if it’s not famous, but here’s what usually happens, friend plays chap 1-> got tired-> says gonna take a break and continue tomorrow-> doesn’t happen and ya know what? IT’s justified cause this chapter sucks lmao, so I got rid of a lot of the annoying reinforcements that spawn out against you, changed the lay out a bit and hopefully that fixes some of the pacing issues there.

So yeah not huge changes but I mainly wanted to push out the chapter 1 “fix”? idunno but I think it’s a bit better cause this chapter sucked man.

Patch 1.8.2 notes:

  • Changed Rackham’s class to berserker.
  • Gave +3 spd to rackham
  • Tweaked some enemy placements on chapter 3
  • Lowered the auto levels on hard by 1 on chapter 3
  • Fortune now comes with a second rift mirror instead of having the rift skill
  • Made tomesplitter effective against monks which i missed before
  • Fixed some weird terrain tiles on chapter 3
  • Added a fourth Palemo tribe unit
  • Added monster affinity icon so it’s not glitchy before you attack

He’s a character so irrelevant he has a total of 1 line of dialogue.
BUT this totally average thief will join the 3 other palemo units during chapter 3, because having a summoner that needs to summon, fight and torch was too much of a role compression for manoa. I figured it’s better to just relent and give you more units on that side.

Yall letme tell you about one of my favourite games of all time:

(2016) Pocket Mirror.

Now those who have played it might know how much of a masterpiece this game is.
a deep story about mental health, identity, self love & acceptance
plus it has a banging sountrack

If you’ve played the prologue chapter you’ll notice the maind theme of pocket mirror
being played on the end events of that chapter, I was so mesmorized and still is by this game
that I asked my friend @cynon to transcribe the title theme “promise” to gba to use it.

anyways this was a shill to play pocket mirror and to go along with a new patch,
patch 1.8.3! I call this the Ratih patch.

Changes:

  • The start message has been updated to make it a better intro to the hack
  • On every map you will get a peek at Ratih’s journal entry accompanied with promise of course
  • Ratih and Pertiwi are now official! Yes this is very important information that the players must know
  • Purge has been nerfed to 10 dmg

I’m sadly still figuring out chapter 4, it’s very much wip, it’s a huge map so this will probably take a while but I decided this patch should be allowed to come in first cause LORE bruh

Hello people, so quick update, I’ve got chapter 4 running. But I’d like to get some testers for it first.

That is to say I’m making a simple discord server for testing and feedback. I fully realize that my hack is indeed kinda hard and part of that is because I’ve played it so much that my perception of “hard” doesn’t exactly match the average player’s experience.

DNC should be hard but only if you don’t use the tools given to you correctly. Part of making the optimum experience is to gather feedback about the game from a lot of sources.

That is to say If you have any interest in becoming part of the devving process for this hack I’d really love for you to join my server and provide me some feedback. In turn I will also playtest your projects so it’s not strictly one sided heh.
