[FE8] [COMPLETE] Host of the Dark 2.5 (25 main chapters, 4 gaidens) + 0%, Fixed, and Casual modes!

Is there any prediction on when this overhauled version releases?

So that explains some differences I noticed between the version i tried a little and the 2024 fee3 version.

The server has incomplete versions of the overhaul, if you are interested. Iirc it’s Prologue - Chapter 5, and Chapter 8 - 14

If all goes well I wouldn’t be surprised if it released by the end of 2025. Its a long process

Uuhhhhhh is this game even designed to be playable on hard classic? I scraped by Chapter 1. After trial and error (and shitty level-ups for Solum… maybe I should switch to Fixed RNG when I restart? Because I am. No way in hell am I continuing this hell), I thought it was best to wait it out at the bottom, take out the bow knights, then move up. But nope. They respawn endlessly. And 2nd wave and up are stronger than the 1st. So that didn’t go as planned. It’s designed so that you don’t have enough firepower or extra turns to heal to take out all 3 every turn, even if you tried… So, restarted and just rampaged thru the map. Got one final level up for Solum, to get… Speed. Scratch that. Power and Skill, I think. Got Luck and Resistance on one which was cool but that was when he died to a bow night while trying to escape so I had to move out of range of them. That 9 range is wicked… So got my last level up and took out Tobias with the archer in one round, to just end it before everyone died.

Now I get to chapter 2. And this map is FILLED with enemies that ALL double every single unit you have, and it would take several hits for any of my units to take them out. And they wouldn’t get the chance in any universe. The point isn’t to fight? Yeah no shit :joy: Get to the ruins? You mean… After every single person on my team is all but dead, essentially? Max can carry Fidem, and Solum can be carried by his green haired bestie. But that leaves the archer girl to be gutted. And that’s IF the other two can even make it. The hit rates are too high and even 50% hit rates always seem to land, so a 89% is a given that it lands and kills everyone. There are zero paths that lead to victory, because even if everyone dies except for Max, who would have to travel by water to take Solum to the ruins, how can you call that a true victory? With a single unit to go into Chapter 3 which is probably even fucking worse than this one. And having less units would just mean a quicker death. And getting Max there all by himself seems impossible anyways, because there’s an annoying little archer placed with intent right in his path, which happens to be strong enough to NUKE him.

This HAS to be a fucking troll lmao

There is no way you actually designed this shit to be achievable in hard classic. I wanna see someone beat it with zero deaths in it or the prior chapters, for the latest version. Otherwise kek

Like I’m all for difficulty and all, and I’m not one to complain about a challenge. I like a challenge. In my opinion, things shouldn’t just be made easy so that it’s accessible to everyone. We’re all cut from different cloth and have different limitations. The world nowadays wants everything handed to them, and wants games to be “3-starrable” without actually needing a basic or especially deeper understanding of a game, or actual skill. Many players of online pvp games are like this. FEH. And even just any strategy RPG that requires a brain.

But this is just impossible, and my brain is telling me you’re trolling people who look down on those who hate any higher level of difficulty, or use slurs such as “filthy casual”, so that they must also become what they hate, or quit the game and take an L with extra salt on the wound. Otherwise it wouldn’t have been designed this way at all.

HM is designed for a second playthrough. It’s such viciously scaled early on to filter first timers, the maps get much easier when played from the right angle. Tbh I find the mentality of needing to play the highest difficulty on a first run to be very misguided and a bit shallow. HM is for those who want HotD to be harder after already playing the game.

hey all, we’ve got a new demo to 3.0 exclusive to the server going up to chapter 13 fully rewritten, rebalanced, and with a boat load of new and improved maps.

I played through the Prologue session on hard mode. And I have some thoughts that i’d to put together. I hope these will be useful for you in the rework.

Chapter 1 isn’t too bad, but the most ideal route is having Solum and Mick go hard right to recruit Fidem on turn 2. You have to LTC this chapter with Bow Knights who can one round Solum and 2 hit Mick; a definite problem when a second row of Bow Knights spawn immediately after. No time for me to heal or to really counter play unless I pray for a few dodges when I can. The “puzzle-ish” type of gameplay here feels very bad with 2 units to use. I would encourage a more freestyle~ type of loop for hard mode.

Chapter 2 HM was one of the more negative experiences with a chapter I’ve played. It definitely feel like it wasn’t play tested with how easy it is for someone to die. No one, and absolutely no one was able to take 1 hit besides dodge tank Fidem and Max. I had to abandon most of the map and hard push the NE path with the least amount of enemy concentration. Max was able to deal with the cavs by himself on a forest tile with elixers. But I had to camp that small corner where the shops were and 1 tile choke a good portion of the enemies there. I do believe Swift Edge should be Fidem’s prf. It allows him to double at base, and be able to dodge more effectively. Had it not been for that I would have dropped the game honestly. Sagiita was the only one that can do real damage without risking her life too. I would recommend toning down the str of the enemies a bit.

Chapters 3-4 were fine mostly. The Anna chapter risked Solum getting jumped by most of the eastern enemies going straight for him. Anna wasn’t so different either unfortunately. I had to have Fidem rush to the north to bait a few enemies, then worked my way to the 1 tile chokes to sustain. Besides that the experience was much better.

Chapter 5 (The Uxo village map) was my favorite map by far. I had to choose carefully who to cycle between each side and I had enough items to play around with.

Chp 6’s bishop and sage were a little mean. Everyone got one shot, so I had to use Tobias’s summon and the Longbow to chip. Either than that the chapter was fine.

6x was a bit boring, but for a boat map it was fine given the dragons and wyverns i had to deal with

7 was a cakewalk, but the end event crashed on my end. I assume it’s due to the emulator being on mobile.

Overall I hope that the story and the eventing are more refined, and i’ll continue to play till endgame

Thank you for the feedback but I’m afraid most of the maps you’ve played no longer exist.

As said in the OP 3.0 will overhaul most of the game with demos of 3.0 being available for download in the discord. Hard mode also is not made for a first playthrough.
The chapters in the current 2.5 version are old and not very good

Understood, thank you!

I’ve finished this game a little while ago and it was absolutely awesome!

The team I used for the last chapter

My OP MC. Totally destroyed enemies late game with Sun God’s Wrath

Subaru was fairly good late game. I turned him into a berserker and had him use armor and calvary effective axes which made him very useful. More of a tank than what a berserker should be without it. Meh strength.

Barya was Sal’s support partner and a decent unit all around.

My guy was speedy but damn, did he fall off with that pathetic strength. I used him for his unique class.

Sniped flyers with siege weapons after i got them. No wyvern was safe.

Atom was my favorite unit overall due to his unique anims and portrait along with his beautiful Magical power and res, he could also double a lot.

Luna was definitely a decent unit all around that could deal with many types of enemies.

Ahhh Marius, probably my best melee fighter. Very useful from the moment I got him to endgame.

Meh, she was decent. not much to say.

Mary was good in every stat and was very useful before the end.

Good unit. I used him because, well, he came at the end at max leve and he was a good unit.

Serenity was a very good glass cannon, especially with the flame lance.
