[FE8] [Complete] Fire Emblem: Vision Quest (v3 by Pushwall - 1-Oct-22)

Really loving the hack so far.

But I have the same problem as CDCam71 in 2-7.

I have the 6 logs still with me at the end but no reward when i seize with Storch.

Yes it is @Lurker245
wait did u drop them all? I think rescuing important units may cause glitches (that happened in code of black knights intermission chap)

lol this hack is so charming that it got many first posts

The arrow in 2-3 is the thief escape point, it doesn’t do anything else.

The log bug will be fixed very soon. I messed up the event logic so it ran the incorrect event when all logs were saved.

Working on an update patch that makes a few fixes - stay tuned.

v1.16 is now available on dropbox in the first post.

Changes include:

  • End event in 2-7 fixed
  • Cyngus x Maelle’s support chain shows correct supports now
  • Gunnar, Freyja, Jae, and Anwen each received minor buffs.
  • Chicken map sprites should display properly in 2-1x
  • Small dialogue typos fixed, including guide text.
  • Updated Batari mug courtesy of Levin and Vlak (original by Laurent), as well as updated Seruni mug (thanks Laurent!).

Thanks all - please keep the feedback coming!

Hi Pandan, thanks for all these updates. How do patching updates work? I’ve been playing the 6-28 release on Open Emu. Do I just patch my current game and then reload a save? Or will the save automatically be there when I open the newly patched game?

Thanks! No, you need to patch a fresh ROM. You can ‘load alternative save’ with mgba to import and continue with your existing save. You can also adjust the title of the new ROM and the .sav to the same name for it to load in automatically.

sound good. I think I know how to do that but if I might mess up ill just backup a save elsewhere.

Yeah backing up the .sav is always a good idea just in case something goes wrong.

Okay definitely struggling here so probably better to just seek out answers. I patched a fresh copy of FE8 with the new patch, but now how would I important my v1.4 save file to this new copy? I downloaded mgba but can’t figure out how to load my old save onto there. Always came across this issue since open emu uses snapshot save states but I think it’s different on mgba.

Do you have a .sav file? Try “load alternative save” and select that.

When I play on open emu the save states have an extension “oesavestate”

Problem is don’t think there’s an easy way that I know of to convert that to .sav or .ss to use with mgba. If not its okay 1.4 was working smoothly for me so far

Ah I see - sorry I can’t be of more help. There shouldn’t be anything gamebreaking in v1.14 so no worries.

If anyone else reading this can assist, please do so! Thanks.

No problem!

Just find where your sav file is located for vision quest. Make a copy and save it in another folder just in case you accidentally deleted/lose it. Now delete your old Vision Quest rom and patch a new one with the latest update. !!Make sure the newly patched Vision Quest is the same name as your old sav file!! Move the new Vision Quest rom to wherever you keep your roms and if you moved your sav file, simply move that to where your emulator keeps it’s save files in ‘Files.’ If your sav is already there for VQ, disregard the last sentence

Hi there, just want to say first of all that this hack is really fun so far. You did a great job of making each unit useful to some degree and I like the smaller maps with more strategy to them. However, and I would never make a comment like this normally, I am having the worst luck to the point where I won’t believe its luck. I think i’m generally playing pretty well. Playing aggressively, using terrain, sending the right units towards the right enemies. Healing when necessary. But my units are getting hit by everything. I understand that low percentages hit sometimes, but my units have dodged less 20 and 30 percent hits than they’ve been hit by. Like I said, I’m using terrain and the weapon triangle to the best of my ability. I understand units are meant to take a hit, but I feel like I can’t take any risks because my units are deadass getting hit by every single enemy attack sent their way. Really, I’ve played fire emblem for years, I would never make a comment like this unless it was seriously crazy. Like I think i’'m losing my mind, I had nazar and storch die because of full turns of not dodging a single attack, even really low percents like 20. I’m playing the best I can but I really don’t think its amounting to anything here.

Glad you’re enjoying the hack. Sorry to hear you’re having bad luck - not sure how else to explain it. The game is 2 RN as well, so those low hit chances should be the same as normal GBA.

If it’s any consolation, you’re not the first to experience this. I’ve seen others say that they’ve had similar bad luck with hit rates. My guess is that the damage output is higher, so these low percentage hits hurt more than in vanilla, so it feels worse, perhaps? Not sure.
