[FE8][Complete] Fire Emblem: Emulation Theory (SUPER DELUXE)

why is there a javellin wielding cavelier in chapter 4 that can one-hit one of the villagers you need to protect before it seems to be possible to reach them?

If you’re having trouble with that section, consider killing Jasmine first, as the starting positions are better and you start closer to that cav (he really is bs If you kill Paul first)

Dorcas has zero promo bonuses if you promote him to Hero. He gets +1 Mov and -2 Con, and all other stats remain the exact same. Is that intentional?

Also, in Chapter 19, I could not open the door after the duel by any means. I won the duel, but after winning, I was just… stuck. I did put the given door key in the convoy for a bit, so maybe that was the issue? But then I tried all the door keys I had, plus the Rogue’s locktouch, and nothing worked.

Both of those are issues, which are fixed. Thanks

Eirika is stuck in her cage for eternity, but at least she has a cool axe to play around?

The Dorcas issue I have absolutely no idea how it happened, but it was a quick fix (the real issue here is going hero instead of warrior… /s)

Just finished my first (although certainly not my last) playthrough!! Game is so much fun, in just about every aspect of it. Story is fun and engaging, plot twisting in reasonable but unexpected ways, I was very invested in it. Humor was good but not overdone, I never found the jokes to get in the way or anything. And the gameplay was immaculate, I loved the unique weapons, and (almost) all of the map gimmicks and changes. Not to mention, the vibes are perfect, especially during Athos’s corruption and subsequent death, I was genuinely kinda spooked, and Welcome Creator, holy peak. Units also feel unique and fun, and the skills they have are impactful, but not overly centralizing. (Usually.) Speaking of…

Endgame Units

Lightcode Sword carried her in the first few chapters. Lightcode Blade carried her through the late game. I do wish there was a second Lightcode Sword given to her sometime in the midgame. Either way, Eirika was actually one of my best combat units, which was fun. Fast and strong, physically and magically, with Rapier, Sieglinde, and Lancereaver for additional utility. Also ended up surprisingly tanky, even before she got Sol. Gave her an Angelic Robe and a Body Ring, and that was it.

Super strong in the early game, solid through the midgame. Endgame… not so much. Why does he lose 4 Con upon promotion? I kind of understand him not getting any promo bonuses, but getting promo losses feels kinda harsh. He does less damage after promotion, and takes more too. Mark kinda became a chip and Reposition bot after that, and (weirdly enough) mostly just a support partner for Seth.

Solid, but not outstanding. Ended up pretty fast and strong, although I feel like I got a little stat screwed in the midgame. Still, she leveled and grew weapon ranks crazy fast, which I appreciated. First unit I promoted, and was just dependable at every stage of the game. Definitely makes great use of her weapon ranks, since after promotion, she can wield Elfire with no speed penalty, and Forblaze only slowed her down by one. Plus, staff utility, although her inventory was usually pretty cramped.

The man is cracked. I don’t know why, but for some reason he gets crazy boosted experience. I once had him level up three times in a single enemy phase. Gave him the Juna Fruit TWICE and he STILL capped Level 20 three different times. Granted, enemy phase is really just Hector’s phase. Handaxe! + Fierce Stance + Axefaire kinda just invalidates a lot of things. And whatever that doesn’t invalidate, Garm does, or the Wolf Beil, or even the Brave Sword. Also, I’m surprised no Armads. Did I just miss it? Not that he needs it, to be clear, I’m just wondering.

At first, Seth was mostly just Eirika and Mark’s support partner, plus occasional chip and panic button with the Silver Lance. He was falling off quite hard, although I did net him a Fire Dragon kill with Maltet, but then I benched him for the first few Void Maps. That is, until Welcome Creator, where I made Seth… “balanced.” First off, incredible gimmick, secondly, it fixed Seth. Only stat he lost points in was HP, but I used an Angelic Robe to fix that, added an Energy Ring for good measure, and then he was set. With his high weapon ranks and newly-solved stats, he was the perfect mixed attacking unit, using the Maltet, Lightcode Lance, Lightcode Blade, Javelin!, and whatever miscellaneous effective weapon the map called for. I felt like a genius for using the “balance” house to fix him, and I love that the game gave me the option for something so fun like that. It was a unique and really clever experience, something kinda emblematic of what this whole hack was like for me. (Fire Emblematic, if you will.)

Outrider + Killer Weapon is a lot of fun. Perceval was slow as a rock, so I went Great Knight to maximize bulk. He only hit things once, but he hit them for big damage, and got some pretty clutch crits. He would not have needed so many crits if I had remembered that he had Resolve. I’m pretty sure I only used the skill once. Which is… depressing. Still, had a lot of fun with him.

I think I kind of messed up with Heath, in all honesty. Don’t get me wrong, he was plenty strong, especially with Charge to boost his damage. But he was very inaccurate. To be fair, I ended up going S Axes with Heath, though in hindsight, I definitely should have done Lances. All the best axes still slowed him down, and Garm’s bonus speed helped, but not too much. Even the Handaxe! lost him some speed and accuracy. Lances would’ve helped to alleviate some of those issues. Also, he was surprisingly frail I found. Most of his best work was in the early game, though he was still quite useful.

His stats are decieving. Mulagir, and especially the glitched bow still put in plenty of work, even on the final few maps. The early Brave Bow and Silver Bow helped out plenty before that. Kind of my only Bow unit, although I wished I had trained his Sword ranks a little more. Lightcode Blade would’ve been great. Still, anything Dayan couldn’t kill outright, he could buff so someone else could.

I considered Summoner, but since I was lacking magical damage at the time (Nino was falling behind, and L’Arachel never caught up), I decided to go Druid. Glad I did. One of my tankier units, could soak up a few hits and debuff a few enemies on enemy phase, then nuke something with Luna, Fenrir, or Gleipnir and heal up on player phase. Plus, Thunder is just a strict upgrade to Flux, and staff access is always nice.

Why does this girl have more strength than magic? Seriously. (Also, I’m like 90% sure Holy Aura doesn’t work, and also, Aureola gives Def, even though the description says Res.) Anyway, 1-2 range Unheal staff was her standard weapon, that and Thunder. Mostly just used her for her staves, since the extra range was good on everything.

Ephraim felt pretty bad to use, honestly. If I’m being realistic here, he more or less just replaced Merlinus. Sure, he could actually deal damage, but he wasn’t doing much. Even with effective damage from the Siegmund, he was often missing key thresholds because he was too slow. Also, I somehow missed out on his personal skill? Even though I got him to Level 20 before promoting, the skill just… never showed up? Not sure why. Also, the Ephraim maps were hell to play, was running very short on weapons and literally everyone else died in the Scouring.

When playing Fire Emblem, I like to bring a Thief to every map, just in case. In the case of this hack especially, I felt it was necessary, because who knows when some crazy gimmick will lead to some doors needing to be opened or items to be stolen. Rennac also had the added benefit of Seal Spd to chip and debuff an enemy, making him valuable on every map. Also, I used him to steal Zephiel’s Iron Rune in like his first chapter, which was a lot of fun.

Dancer. Inspiring Tune was quite useful, even if it doesn’t buff Res. Also quite tanky, I played a bit risky with her placement at times and she was never in any danger.

Brought him on solely for the extra deployment slot in the second to last map. Hadn’t trained or used him at all before that, but I figured a Bishop might be kinda useful. Slayer + the Unheal staff is one hell of a combo.

Overall, the maps were easily the strongest part of the game. The gimmicks, the music, the vibes, it all just came together perfectly for me. The first few chapters sort of ease you into the shenanigans, which quickly end up going off the rails, but like in a really good way. Standout maps would definitely have to be Chapter 7 (I think? whichever one Armory or Shop is), the nomad stealth map, the snowy Merlinus map, and Welcome Creator. Even then, all of the maps are pretty great, and there’s only one or two maps I didn’t really care for. All in all, the game just has a ton of life and character. It feels like the characters are actually alive, which helps SO MUCH with the whole plot and premise of this story. That feels like something really hard to pull off, and yet, this hack did it.

SPOILER - Thoughts on the Ending

I kinda flip-flop with how I feel about the final map. Initially, I was kinda disappointed, due to reduced deployment slots, weak enemies, and a basically nonexistent final boss. The last major combat hurdle is the triple Fomortiis fight - everything after that is a lot weaker. I one shot Fado with an Iron Sword. And I don’t think I took a single point of damage that whole map. However, from a story perspective, it’s amazing - the player, as a Higher Being, intervenes, breaking the emulation and literally seizing control of Fado, forcing him to his doom. From a story perspective, it’s peak. But, from a final boss perspective, it’s weak. However, I don’t think anything else would fit the moment better. It is the best option, and it’s really cool. But it’s not a challenge. Idk, I just thought I’d share.

Overall, incredible hack. The game just has so much charm, so much soul. I have totally fallen in love with it, and will probably revisit it fairly soon. 10/10, would recommend.

I’m so happy you liked it! Thanks for all the feedback, I fixed a lot of stuff thanks to you.

About things

Mark and Hector’s stuff is actually not intentional. It really is insane how fast Hector levels up. They’re now fixed!

Can’t a holy woman be buff? (the unheal staff uses strength)

It is not meant to be a challenge! I understand that, when first playing the game, you’d expect a big climactic final fight between the evil king and the heroes, but there are plenty of those already. I designed Chapter 26x (Into The Void) to be the big, final battle you’d expect in normal hackroms, with the Void chapters having a “post-game” feel, and chapter 28 and 28x (the two Magvel chapters) being more about the story conclusion than a gameplay climax. Again, for first-time players that expected another big battle I understand the disappointment, but it’s a tradeoff I’m willing to accept; I really like the ending.

Fire Emblem is not known for having difficult final maps, anyways

Again, thanks for the kind words!
