[FE8] [COMPLETE] Bound Destiny Trilogy

Triology completed right, guess it’s time for me to jump in then.
I guess support convos and paired endings are in this too?

In BD1, supports are specific to certain chapters; just use ‘Talk’ to see them. From BD2 onward, supports are moved to Base Conversations.

Character endings are static as support ranks themselves are pre-determined over the course of the story.

这个黑客非常nice. 我认为剧情相当不错

My brother, i am in the third chapter of the trilogy and just gonna say, its been great, i mean honestly i would love it a full pokemon freedom hack, but, i liked your view. Really loved some characters (Rhydon, Kangaskhan,) really hated others (Samurott, Blaziken).

Thank you for all the love you put in this, my best wishes, take care and i hope to play another of your hacks someday.

Playing Bound Destiny 1, A few bugs Id like to note I found

  • During 1-1, the hut that lets you skip ahead, if you use it to loop back to pt 1 while there, and choose to do the tutorial, you get locked in an inf turn skipping, bricking that save even on restart, fairly early so no consequence
  • …Are we supposed to go to lv 30? despite what the mechanics say about being able to promo at lv 20, its 3-8 empty levels after capping most stats, especially for high growth units
  • In 3M-3, when you do prep screens with Sandslash now a party member.., If you try to Inspect The human swords, the ones he cant use, the entire rom combusts and you hear an ear piercing sound, forcing restart
  • When Promoting from T1 to T2, if max hp is above 60, it goes back down to 60
  • Guide stuff stops showing up after pt 2 finale

if you could look into these, would be nice

Got in expecting a standard game, stayed due to great characters and broken funny units. Going through act 3 of BD1. Great stuff all around, I specially love how the target is just to make your characters as broken as possible. Feels great.

I’m a bit late on making a reply to this post since I finished the trilogy a little while ago, but I cannot overstate how much these are worth a play. If you have an interest above passing in any of the concepts listed in the main post, please give the BD trilogy a shot. It punches way above its weight in several aspects, especially in regards to the story and characters. That’s not to say that the gameplay is lacking, because it certainly isn’t. It’s an enjoyable experience through and through.

I didn’t expect a rom hack trilogy to become one of my favorite pieces of media, and something special to me, but it’s certainly wormed its way into my heart. Made me cry a couple times, too! I had already expressed my appreciation of the hack on the Discord once I’d beaten BD3, but I wanted to again on here to hopefully encourage others to give these fantastic hacks a try. Thanks for the journey, Cobalt, can’t wait to see what you do next!

Alright, so it’s been a full year since I’ve posted in this thread. I have since played through the entire trilogy and I have a myriad of thoughts about the games. However, I will keep it brief.

These games are peak. They hit on all the things I care about the most when playing an FE hack. An engaging story, characters you want to root for (and root against), and the soundtrack is fantastic too. Oh yeah, and you play as Pokemon too, which is really cool. If that’s what you’re looking for, you won’t be disappointed.

The gameplay can be rough around the edges, especially in the first game, but BD2 & 3 greatly improve gameplay to the point that I’d consider gameplay a strength too, just not as much as the story. Either way, give these games a try.

This looks like a really cool labor of love , but when I tried to play it , I didn’t like the idea of Humans being evil and mean to Pokemon, I know this is a really dumb thing , because otherwise I might enjoy it, but maybe someday I will look past it and play this game.

If it’s any consolation, you play as humans from a few different perspectives throughout the entirety of the game, and 9 times out of 10 quite like their Pokemon companions. It’s mostly just setup early in the game for the initial conflict.

Wow, I just discovered this, but this looks incredible. I would have never expected to see pokemon in FE!

Made an account here to comment on this since I decided to give this trilogy a try. It’s good so far, though I’m pretty early in, and I assume it gets more difficult from where I’m at. I have found a pretty significant bug though, where trying to look at the details for the weapon you get in 1-3 consistently freezes/crashes the game. I switched to a different emulator, since I was using one that wasn’t recommended, but it continued to happen anyway. I’ll just have to take care not to step on that landmine, I guess.

I would never have expected Pokemon in a Fire Emblem game and for it to actually work. I’ve only got through the first game of the trilogy so far, but I am already in love with it. Especially as someone who yearns for more nonhumans in Fire Emblem games/hacks. The writing here is just fantastic, the character writing in particular, with a few exceptions almost all the characters are well fleshed out and have satisfying character arcs. The gameplay is a bit of a mess, but not in an unenjoyable way. Even on the hardest difficulty, it is a pretty easy game, outside of a few of the final maps if you try to play them ‘fairly’ (no warp skipping and no infinite scyther turns mainly). The sheer amount of tools and options you get is enormous and tons of fun to play around with, and you can turn anyone you like into a juggernaut. The amount of skills units got was honestly kind of overwhelming, not even taking into account buyable ones.

Highlights/thoughts on characters with some spoilers

Zoroark is cute. Him going from barely being able to speak to being a leader of an army felt a little bit rushed, but I still enjoyed basically everything involving him. His relationship with Lukas was also heartwarming, and one of the reasons Act 3 was probably my favorite part of the game.

Lukas was a good contrast with Samson and I liked seeing him slowly open up with Zoroark.

Katarina I didn’t expect to like as much as I did, she ended up being one of my favorites by the end. Seeing her struggle with her identity and eventually embracing her new life was a great arc. Another reason I loved Act 3 too.

Markus and Alyx toe the edgelord line a bit, but never so much that it becomes a detriment. Mechanically, Markus is insane offense late with double lion, and Alyx is great defensively thanks to provoke, as long as you save some speedwings so she doesn’t get doubled. Alyx is also crazy offensively because tome range up early, and Perish Song is funny.

Feraligatr is a good boy and to be protected, not that he needs it at all. Rally Spectrum is crazy good which sadly ate a lot into his EXP gain.

Scyther was good comic relief and just an absolutely gamebreaking unit once you can buy goddess icons to max his luck for re-move, which he helps with by getting bargain immediately in his join map.

Haxorus surprised me with also having a strong and satisfying arc late, going from an almost cult-like devotion to actually thinking for himself. One of the best parts of act 4.

Kangaskhan strong mom, sadly very fragile in practice.

Tyranitar cool uncle and Axefaith is a cool and fun skill, also desperately wants speedwings.

Lyca and Corviknight just kind of exist. I assume we will get more with them in the sequels, they just joined far too late here to get any real development. Seedie and Sandslash also fall into this bucket, though they don’t join late so there is less excuse there.

Samson and Lucia and Aggron were all fine. No super strong feelings on them for better or worse.

I am now stoked to get into the sequel. I would also reiterate what another poster said above, if any of this looks interesting at all to you, give it a shot. There is definitely a bit of dissonance between the Pokemon parts and the GBA FE parts, but you get used to it over time, and I personally found it engrossing enough to ignore it pretty easily.

I signed up just to say how incredible the first game in this saga was! I just spend the last week devoting myself to it and it’s impressive what you did. I am looking forward to playing the next game. (although I’m having some rotten luck with the prologue of 2 and dying a lot)

Finished the second game. These games are, indeed, peak.

Thoughts with spoilers because I just feel like rambling about things

I didn’t like the central plot quite as much as the first, but it was still good, and felt much more like a proper Fire Emblem game than the more character-focused previous game. It also had kind of the bad part of that too with there just being a much larger cast and most of them having almost no presence after they are introduced. The base camp system was great and did alleviate this for at least some characters. I do wish there had been more side missions and tavern conversations, but I also understand how much work even this much was. Hoping to see it utilized more in the third game.

The gameplay is a huge step up from the previous. I enjoyed the gimmicky maps and experimental stuff in the first game a lot, but it didn’t really feel like Fire Emblem at a lot of points, and it was painfully easy most of the time. This time we have real deployment numbers, a robust if underdeveloped cast, and some actually challenging maps. The final map of part 1, the final two maps of part 2, the final map of part 3, and the final map of the game were all just well designed Fire Emblem maps that I actually felt good thinking through and utilizing the still enormous amount of tools you have available.

I liked a fair bit of the new cast. Aria and Zach were different enough from the previous mains to give a good contrast especially when they merged. Their awkward romance was also fun to follow. The rest of the mercs did stuggle to stand out though, exceptions being Audino because early extra bard and Rhydon because I just love the goodhearted reformed brigand archetype, and he actually popped up in the story even after we got to main character town.

Enjoyed the stuff with Lukas and Samson quite a bit. I ended up liking Samson a lot more here than in the first game, he seems much better fitted to a mentor/father figure role, which makes the reveal at the end land well. I would have liked more of Lukas and Zoroark, but it’s understandable for the plot, and what we do get of them together is as cute as ever.

Very glad to see Lyca and Corviknight and Sandslash all get some much needed screentime and development, and also giving some more characterization to Staraptor, who despite being the main villain of the first game didn’t really feel like he had enough going on there. I would have liked to see a bit more of Seedie with Lukas and Zoroark and others, but she did at least get one map and reveal, better than nothing.

Markus goes full Kelik which was fun to see, but also ended up with some solid development with Haxorous. Haxorous himself also had some of the best development through both of the games. Haxorous is probably my favorite of the minor cast. He was also cracked as a unit with the Loyal Axe and three A supports, even if he didn’t quite hit the ridiculous stats of endgame Lukas.

Tarkha getting a psuedo-awakening then joining you and basically vanishing from the plot outside of an optional conversation with Kim felt very weird. I assume that is because she is an optional recruit, but still.

Inteleon I liked a lot for both him just being an entertaining character in general, even if we don’t see that much of him, and him being a mechanically very fun character to use. Magic bow gimmick into being able to go to sage/gremory, enough speed to adequately dodgetank through most of the game, and huge luck growth with ruby ring making him bankroll basically the entire war effort. Very glad he and Decidueye got at least one side mission, even if I would have liked to see more of them, especially after the ending revelations.

Aria also somehow went even further beyond and broke the level limit in the last map.

It didn’t actually change anything since she had capped literally all of her stats by then, but it was still funny to see. My only guess is something to do with blossom experience calculation, since no one else had this happen. She was also a complete monster for most of the midgame, then kind of fell off in the last map because 32 speed cap hurt when enemies are sporting high/capped stats as absurd as your own units. I did forget quick seeds existed though, so mostly a skill issue on my part.

All in all, a great experience, and I’m looking forward to digging into the third game.
